Wall Street Journal's "Unsung" Gems Include GT5, GoWIII

It's always important to pay respect to those titles that don't have the benefit of a widely recognized franchise name.

For our Game of the Year Awards, we have two separate categories for the titles that fell under the shadow of Call of Duty, Halo, Final Fantasy, etc. The "Most Overlooked" and the "Most Underrated;" pertaining to those games the critics liked but went unnoticed by the fans and the games unfairly deemed mediocre by the critics. And it seems The Wall Street Journal has a similar list. This one appears to include titles that the mainstream populace might miss as most all hardcore gamers are quite familiar with the likes of Gran Turismo 5 and Mass Effect 2. Those of us who consider gaming to be our primary hobby might think it strange that God of War III is on such a list, as it was lauded by critics and sold quite well for an exclusive title. However, it remains true that the majority of those who indulge in interactive entertainment are casual partakers...and hence, the necessity of such lists.

With the Journal's super wide readership, this sort of promotion may allow the best of the best - not just the best of the biggest - to become household names. Might take a while, of course, but it's still nice to see.

And here I thought PSXextreme was the only place that refused to let GT5 go unnoticed!

I love GT5. The only gripe I have with it is the leveling up system. I am through with all the races, except endurance, all the special events and all the license tests and am only at level 27.

So you mean to tell me that I will have to do races over and over just to get to level 40? Not really liking that aspect of the game. They could have done a better job with that one. Anyone else feel this way?

@Wreckless
I meant unnoticed by critics. (Referring to the mid-80's average at metacritic) I'm actually pretty aware of it's sales. :)

AT these numbers critics who commented negatively on GT5 should keep their mouth closed for their own sake.

It's nice to see some news from the media that doesn't try to shed negative light on video games. I hope it helps boost sales among the casual players. If you don't play often, you might as well buy the best the industry has to offer.

Doesn't surprise me. I don't know a lot of COD players who enjoy GT5.

However, I know a lot of GT5 players who enjoy the WSJ.

Go figure.

Dumas sure knows his games. Good for him. Using the channels he has available to shed light on some of the best.

It's nice to get mentioned by a publication that isn't doing so just to cast aspersions on gaming and gamers.

I'm kind of a guy who enjoy both racing and action games mostly and beside some epic FPS that would include only a good Story line , I
dont care really about online eliments , all friends on my PSN are into one of both games really COD or GT5 there is nearly no one I can think about have ever played both games at his PSN account.

Im glad also to hear that neutral people when comes to gaming really appreciate Sony's work as all players in real does, A lot of gaming site online are not being fare to Sony's hard work this year ,
these web sites keep loving games with a lot of online action with a lot of mindless shooting with no care about any Offline story work , most of these games they like nearly lack all kinds of offline story elements .

and beside that , these same gaming websites, they keep unfair to all games with a great offline experience
GOD OF WAR
GRAN TURISMO 5
SINGULARITY
BIO-SHOCK 2
and a lot more
