"FinalFantasyXIII-2TheGame" Domain Has Been Registered

"She must not be forgotten." When those words, along with Final Fantasy XIII protagonist Lightning's artistic image, were sent out to Square-Enix Ultimate members, many just assumed Nomura was referring to the leading lady's inclusion in the upcoming Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy.

But others took this piece of evidence, combined it with other vague indications, and came to the conclusion that Square-Enix might be working on a sequel to FFXIII. And the latest update actually supports the latter theory, as a new domain name has been registered by Square-Enix and it's pretty self-explanatory: "finalfantasy13-2game.com." This domain was filed on Monday, January 11 and it has been registered by "Corporation Service Company," who have also registered domains for other titles from the publisher, including Front Mission Evolved, Nier, and the upcoming Mindjack. The Unofficial Final Fantasy Site also notes that much of the FFXIII design team worked on the last sequel in the series, Final Fantasy X-2, so maybe they're into trying another follow-up. And next week, we've got the Square-Enix First Production Department Premiere, so perhaps they'll make an announcement then. Either way, this is bound to create a ton of discussion and argument; do you even want FFXIII-2...?

Lastly, this comes hot on the heels of our editorial, Final Fantasy XIII-2: What We Want. Odd, yes. Did we know something...? ...nah. Just good timing, it seems.

Rather than be a downer as per usual I will say YES, I want this game. I want it to correct the crimes against humanity that the first one committed. I like Light, she could be a good lead in a real JRPG. Now please just make it old school good.

Ya know WEWM, that's almost exactly what I said about the game. I was so disappointed by the change in gameplay and world structure that I still haven't played it. I want classic FF gameplay, turn-based with world exploration. I'd even take FFXII gameplay.

Then again, I'm one of those gamers still desperately clinging to the last dying hope for the FFVII remake. Maybe I'm just an anachronism or something.

Well, nice of them to try again I suppose, but This will definitely Not be a day one purchase for me this time around...Just because it says Final Fantasy on the box no longer means you have to own it....But we'll see, I still need to finish XIII before I try XIII-2

This is great news if it holds to be true. The underlying mythology was certainly enticing, but undesirably reserved. Gran Pulse engrosses the player with its ruins and fal'Cie which is conducive to a future Final Fantasy XIII related title.

There's nothing on that site yet. I hope it isn't a goof. And why is it only reserved till 2013? Can't imagine the game would even be out by then at SE's typical pace. That is unless it is just a cut and paste job of all the stuff they cut out for 360.

Hell, releasing XIII on 360 was a colossal waste of everybody's time and money, think they'll do it again?

Maybe it's too late, but it boggles me why S-E would keep announcing games when it has yet to come out with details on their other Final Fantasy projects. There's Agito that hardly anybody knows anything, and there's Versus which has been announced way back in 2006 and still has yet to show more info about it 5 years after.

They'll probably make it an anagram like they did with FFVIII's "Fithos Lusec Wecos Venosec". (For those that don't know, rearrange the letters to get "Succession of Witches" and the word "Love")

So for world's subtitle, they might use fewer o's. lol

I only have part of the FF collection(so far), FFVII, Tactics, FFX, FFX-2, FFXI, & FFXII(all mint).

And soon to pick up FFXIII once it drops another $15 or so.

I personally wouldn't mind a XIII-2, but if XIII-2 somehow is higher on S-E`s priority list to develop and release than Versus XIII, by then, I would go berserk....

To add, so far they've only had a third (a quarter if XIII-2 turns out to be real) of the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" project released, for everyone's sakes S-E's REALLY gotta get it together, not hype up and announce new titles.

I don't think it's higher on their priority list. Nomura is plugging away at Versus while the rest of Square works on their other games. XIII-2 will likely consist of work that's already done that was cut from XIII.

To think... If only S-E could get it together, we'd already have info on Versus, Agito, potentially KH3, this and whatever else they've got hidden up those ridiculously large sleeves of theirs.

I honestly hope that Versus isn't delayed beyond the end of this year, and the same goes for Agito. FFXIII-2, if it exists, should come out within the next two years, with FFXV not long behind it. It seems to me that they are swamping themselves with their determination to create all of these projects, and not being able to deliver on them for years. They need to either get smarter about their development process or hire more grunts to get things going faster. Let's hope they deliver some good news next week aout the progress of their current projects.

Just as an aside: What would y'all think if they were to announce a numbered FF game done in cel-shading/anime style similar to Valkyria Chronicles?

I played X-2 75% the way through, I felt like such a girl. It was WAY too feminine for me, ugh the giggling, girly colors, "Dress" Spheres...X is my favorite, but the sequel ruined it. However, I really dont care what they do with XIII-2 I didnt like the first one. :) VERSUS PLZ!

It'll be PS3 exclusive, turn based, have huge towns, play a lot like FF7 and/or FF4...and there will still be complaints it's not a real Final Fantasy. That much, I'm certain.
Square-Enix hating is the in thing nowadays after all.

I think you are incredibly short sighted. Don't take that the wrong way. What I mean is yes there is a tonne of S-E hate but have you looked at what they have released this generation and what they have communicated to gamers?

The games they have released thus far have been pretty awful, or a complete departure from series standards, examples: The Last Remnant and FFXIII respectively.

I think if S-E came out with a good Final Fantasy, and I mean good FF not a big, elaborate, over the top on graphics, cinematic, corridor fighter then most of the long time fans would be over joyed and S-E would reap tonnes of praise.

All of the S-E hate this generation has been levelled against them because of what they have been doing so to go back to their roots and make a true FF would reverse that hate.

That's all just my opinion though so maybe you're right, maybe everyone would still just say they hate S-E. But I think you're wrong.

screw the ff series. It has had plenty of attention. Instead of making a ff13-2 give us another saga video game gosh darn it! Romancing Saga remake was your best, but unlimited saga was your worst. Learn from both and stop giving us this virtual console bs from the past!

I have a strange feeling that this will be made on a handheld. If it's announced on Tuesday during the conference then I definitely think it'll be a handheld. I don't see them committing to another console Final Fantasy game so soon (at least one that was pretty unpopular).
