PSXE Poll Update: PS3 Fans Not Sold On ME2...Yet

While Mass Effect 2 was a huge title last year, not all PlayStation 3 owners are overjoyed at the prospect of the award-winning RPG hitting Sony's machine this week.

Perhaps it stands to reason that the results are mixed. The majority of those who responded to the latest poll are at least intrigued by BioWare's evidently excellent title, but half of the positive responders are still in a "wait and see" situation. I suppose it depends on how you interpret the results but no matter how you interpret them, there doesn't appear to be a definitive answer. Well, if someone really wanted to play ME2, they could've done so by now, provided they had the financial means and the proper motivation. Plus, we have to admit there's always a trace a bitterness hanging around...you know, the bitterness that such a great franchise was exclusive to another console for quite some time. That's expected and accepted. For our part, we're in a "wait-and-see" situation, too. Just wait for our review this week and then see what you think...

This week, after seeing that "FinalFantasyXIII-2TheGame" domain, we want to know: how many of you want it, if it turns out to exist? And is there a caveat to your desires? In other words, do you want it but only if Square-Enix changes a lot of things...? We're always sort of inclined to give this RPG company the benefit of the doubt but those times seem to be fading fast.

You know what was stupid about the ME2 poll.

There was only 1 answer that said "yes i want it"

the other 3 answers all said no.....

LOL!

You guys are psycho. lol ( a little joking there of course!)

There was one absolutely yes answer, true. But it was not "slanted". What other type of "yes" answer did you want?

"Yes, because all the cool kids are getting it." ????

Come on, seriously?

There's a yes I'm getting it and a maybe.

2 very important possibilities. The third possibility is 'no'. So why have two "no"'s?

Well, to me it was obvious. One no because you simply aren't interested. The other no because although you would play it, you can't justify owning two copies of the same game.

I felt there's no reason to have a second yes or a second maybe. It would NOT make sense.

You need two no's to give context to the reasoning. Afterall, the fact that it appeared on another system is important. If I owned it on XBOX already, I definitely wouldn't get it for PS3 as well. That's just strange. If you are the type of person who would, then obviously your a big enough fan of the game to be "Absolutely yes!!" anyways.

So, yeah... true there was only one yes answer, but it was hardly a "slanted" poll. That's just silliness and a bit of fanishness. Especially when the "yes" was a resounding "YES Absolutely must have!!!!"

Here is the ONLY way it could have been "Slanted" with the 1 yes and 2 no options. It would have HAD to look like this:

"Yeah, I'll probably get it"
"Maybe, we'll have to see if the port is worthy of PS3 standards"
"No, FPS RPG's aren't my thing", and
"No, I tried it once, I won't try it again"...

Then yeah... THAT would have been slanted. There was absolutely NO tone in the poll that suggested people shouldn't get it. If it had only had 3 options, you would have no argument.

It needed the fourth option.

If anything, it was slanted in FAVOR of the game. Instead of having 38% in a single "no" category, it had the biggest 'no' at a lowly 25%, while 'maybe' sat at 30% and 'yes' sat at 31%.

You're guys' statements simply have no validity.

P.S. I can't remember how I voted, but it would have been "Maybe" or "Yes". I'm definitely not at "no".

It was something like:

a. Yes, day 1.
b. I'll wait, maybe later.
c. I'm sure it's great but it's not for me.
d. I played it last year on the pc or 360, so no.

Me? I played it twice already, just not the DLC, so I'll get it for sure later on the cheap. I know Ben said he'll be reviewing it later, so that's good.

I think where square Enix is failing is that they are trying to cater to two crowds and that doesn't work its like trying to be a boss and a friend it ends up failing it just doesn't work. What square Enix should have done is gave people the OPTION from the "twitch" game style and the classic turn based style a simple click of a but to to give people the choice of how they want to play and enjoy the game...does any one agree?

hehe, I had a hard time on this weeks poll. I voted B: "Yes, but they better ..."
But my feelings are more, "Yes, I hope it's going to be great"

I was pretty impressed by the overall positive response to the ME2 survey.
If I remember right, it looked like a close majority of voters were favorable to either getting it right away, or eventually getting it down the road.

If you look at VGchartz, I think ME2 is around 2.5million for x360. So assuming that the actual 360 user-base is closer to 40million, that's only a measly 6.25% of those 360 gamers who actually bought it new. Maybe the series will reach a bigger audience on PS3?

I'll be getting ME2 somewhere down the line. Bioware is pretty darn good and I'm starting to get used to RPG lite. The true issue here is with ME2 showing up on the PS3, and with a better engine, will it score better than 360?

I think it scored to well BECAUSE it was exclusive. Obviously the game is full of bugs and gleeks and hiccups if you base anything on the demo. So, will the corrupt give it a better score to hide their previous BS? Check IGN later for confirmation.

Truth be told, I'd get FFXIII no matter what, cuz I liked the characters and it was still good. But I voted for the caveat because with those I would consider a first day purchase, without, I'll wait the three months for it to plummet to $20 like FFXIII did.

A "gleek" on the school bus when growing up was an action a kid preformed with their mouth by causing a saliva duct under their tongue to be compressed. Effectively projecting a silent stream of warm saliva in a desired direction. Oh yes, a number of unsuspecting kids on my school bus had the unpleasant experience of learning first hand what a gleek was =p

I quit the ME2 demo after I got trapped outside the space station.

So, yes, hopefully the game is less buggy than the demo.

That said, ME2 would be a D1P if I didn't have a huge backlog.

I'll probably end up paying around $40 for it.

@Porkchopgamer

I've heard nothing but praise for the most part, myself. I also don't think there's some strange comspiracy. So, I'll probably be getting it myself eventually. (Like most people here, my purchasing schedule on games I want won't match when I WANT to get them. Too many games this year!!) lol

However, the demo is quite glitchy. I'm sure they'll touch it up, but it's pretty irresponsible, imo, to release something that buggy as a means to convince people to buy the game.

@Wreckless
Usually the highest scoring reviews show up first. Not always of course, but often. I find it usually has to do with a little more favor being shown due to the excitement of getting the game prior to release.

Fair enough, but I believe in some conspiracies, how else does something so buggy and twitchy do so well?

Anyway, yes I think the game actually gleeked at me. But I still like sci-fi and while I think bugs should affect a score, they don't affect me much until they start to affect the experience too much so I'ma get it when I can.

As for Final Fantasy, I'm torn. It will definitely not be a day one purchase and this point, I'm not sure about it at all. We will just have to see.

Meh, there's nothing bitter about Mass Effect 2 being exclusive to the Xbox for so long. Consoles need exclusives. When you think about it, it's kind of sad. The 360 really doesn't have much anymore in terms of quality exclusives. Gears and Halo but I think those are even subpar compared to Uncharted and Killzone. I think what causes more bitterness is when you see exclusive games go to the Xbox as they always get dumbed down. It's no coincidence that a majority of once Sony exclusive 3rd party games end up with lower review scores once they go multiplat.

As far as the new poll. I chose C. I'll listen to what Square has to say but I'm not buying anything on day one from them unless it's console exclusive. They just seem to do much better work when focusing on Sony devices. Contrast their PSP works with their console works. There's no comparison. Their PSP games far exceed anything they have done on a console this gen.

I'm with you all the way on that. It's a damn shame to see what has happened SE this generation. I just hope they can bring themselves back before it is too late.

As for exclusives on consoles, you're right. Exclusives are the games that decide which console one would purchase. I myself was looking at a XBox a while back because of the communtiy aspects but after I saw Uncharted and Gran Turismo and realized they were exclusives, my descision had been made.

However, as I have said before, a true multiplatoform game is one that tailors itself to each specific console. It must be built from the ground up for each one to truly get the best experiences. I believe that if more multiplats were crafted like so, then we would hold them to a much higher standard.

But then again, that's just my humble opinion, and when your name is No one special, what does that mean? ;)

I agree no one special, sadly I think it costs too damn much these days to make each game from the ground up. Back in the day, the SNES Mortal Kombats were far superior to the Genesis, and that was because it was the more dynamic piece of hardware.

Now they aim for "Little to no difference" in multiplats, but truth be told the PS3 always gets screwed in some way. Imagine if they had made Mortal Kombat II on Genesis and then ported it to SNES. Or as a more recent example, just about every Dreamcast game ported to PS2 was still better on Dreamcast.

The only ray of hope is that many devs use PS3 as the lead, but that doesn't stop the gimping due to it having to be on DVD format. Cheers to Castlevania for just putting the 360 version on two DVDs.

Say what you want about SNES, World, but as you can clearly see from the video, "blast processing" makes gaming like F1 racing. And if you don't got it, well, like the vid shows....

Yeah, that seems to be the setback for everything. Cost. That is the one reason why exclusives are (usually) better than multiplatforms. Since they are focused on just on console, they can devote their resources to fit it perfectly to that one console. The other devs just don't have enough money or are too greedy to invest so much into one game, even when that investment may make all the difference between how good the game is (and eventually, how much profit it generates). Some companies theses days think way too shot term when it comes to this, and that's is why exclusives are better.

As far as i'm concerned it's a third person shooter not an RPG, ME2 seems to have taken a lot of the RPG elemens out of the 1st game. I played the demo even and it just did not interest me.

As for Final Fantasy XIII-2, as i have stated may times before, i loved FFXIII, i thought it was a thirlling experience which never outstayed its wellcome. As for a sequel, i would prefer just an all new FF game, as i think the charm of the series is starting a new game, in a new world, feeling completely fresh, though if they do make a sequel, i hope at least the combat is the same style, i loved the classic turn base style, but if they changed it to that it would just seem to inconsistant.

I'll probably get ME2 eventually. Not D1P, though. My next purchase will be LBP2, then we will have to see how the money flow is going. I have a wife, you know, so naturally, as much as I like to believe I wear the pants, I'm not really the boss. :p Sex is a powerful motivator... and if video games hold back that aspect of my life, then video games suddenly fall back down the priority list. lol!

As for FFXIII-2, if it releases, I've been doing some thinking.

I wholeheartedly believe now that the FF franchise will never return to it's former glory. True, I was disappointed by FFXIII, but I still really liked it. And certainly enough to platinum it.

So I think I'm going to look at FF's, not as must have's anymore, but as something I will evaluate for what they are. Certainly if I had done that with FFXIII I likely would have liked it a little better. So that's my approach now.

I would probably enjoy an FFXIII sequel and would be happy to see one. However, I doubt it'll be a D1P with all the other exlcusives PS3 has nowadays. True, it's sad FF is no longer my favorite franchise, but I'm sure I'll continue to enjoy the games for the most part.

Is this what it's like to lose your faith? Well... with the right perspective, it ain't so bad.

Nope, ME1 was published by Microsoft so PS3 can't have it. Instead ME2 will include a 15 minute interactive digital comic in which you can make the key decisions from ME1 in order to get a similar effect you would get from having an ME1 save file used in ME2.

But I hear the save doesn't alter ME2 THAT much anyway. So if you wanna play the first you need a gaming PC or 360.

What World said.

Plus, all the DLC packs are already included on the PS3 version.

BTW, while on one of my 3 annual "Big Game Hunts" safari trips for the last 2 weeks, I was able to steal a brand new 360version of ME2 for only 14.88 off eBay after winning the bid.

Just got it in the mail(it's a 2 disc'er LOL), but it also came with a free DLC card packed inside, for about some DLC, 3 more missions, some extra weaponry, & some extra uniforms.

But since I'm still in the heat of bagging more gaming trophies on my safari, I had to put the game in my backlog pile for now.

Anyway, as for the PS3 version, I still want it for all the differences in our version, plus all the included DLC that's not included in the 360 version(looks like around 5 more on the XBL's ME site).
Plus even if it wasn't on my want list, I'd still need it for collection purposes alone.

But since I already have 1 version of ME that I haven't gotten to yet, it gives me a much added liberty to be able to wait it out till the price drops.

I would like to pick it up, and will eventually, but right now, Sony has way to many exclusives I can't get enough of..
