PS3 Fans Face Difficult Choice: Sackboy Or Shepard?

Not long after the insanity of the holidays, PlayStation 3 owners are suddenly faced with one of the most difficult purchase decisions of the year: both LittleBigPlanet 2 and Mass Effect 2 are set to go today and if you can't buy one, which would it be?

Talk about different experiences. LBP2 is the follow-up to the innovative and award-winning title from Media Molecule; it focuses on unique platforming and a massive amount of player customization and creativity. It's almost entirely unparalleled in the world of gaming. BioWare's RPG, on the other hand, was viewed by many to be the best overall game of 2010 (when it launched for the Xbox 360 and PC), and fans of the genre will often say it's a must-play. Obviously, even before reviewing them, we'd probably recommend that you buy both, provided you have the cash and are intrigued by unbelievable quality, regardless of genre. But say you can only buy one...what to do? How does one make that choice? I suppose we could take length into account but while ME2 is a lengthy role-playing adventure, one could quite literally lose years to LBP2.

But then again, if you're not completely sold on the idea of becoming your own game developer, and you've been waiting to see what all the Mass Effect fuss is about, ME2 could be the correct option. We'll deliver our reviews soon enough - LBP2 is due up first; our analysis goes live tomorrow night - and we'll try to assist in the decision-making process, but even so...it's gonna be a tough choice. Can anyone remember the last time two legitimate Game of the Year contenders came out on the same day? I mean, this is pretty nuts.

I choose neither. Saving the big bucks for the big releases. I guess I'd pick ME2 if I hadda choose, that's more up my street. LBP is as fun as a bag of kittens but it isn't really for me right now.

I'm going to best buy and getting LBP2 CE, ME2 and GT5, seeing as it's buy two get one free until Saturday. It's like i'm buying each game for $45.

Easily LBP2 baby,I already played ME2 on the 360 and still own it.Sackboy is a whole other beast to be dealt with and I am so up for the challenge.ME2 is a great game though.

It is a pretty tough decision. After all both are going to suck up a ton of time and I just bought DCUO so yea, don't really know what to do. I just might go ahead and get ME2 and wait a little for LBP2. Sorry sackie but I really want to put my best foot forward when playing you, so if it means waiting I'll do that. But that's not to say that I wont thoroughly enjoy ME2...hopefully I will.

Oh and who could forget DS2. I finally have it paid, thank God. Now it's just the waiting game. I must say that I am TRULY broke as of this moment :)

As I'm still in the midst of one of my annual big game safari's, I've been busy trying to hunt down some retro systems & hand-held's for the last 2 weeks, so I'll wait on them till their prices come down. But I DO want both.

Just snatched up the 360 version of ME2 brand new with the 5-DLC's card included too, for only $14.88 on one of eBay's "Buy it now" deals.

I'm fortunate enough to be picking up both tomorrow, but if I had to pick up one before the other, it would be 'LittleBigPlanet 2.'
Of course, I already played 'Mass Effect 2' last year, and my priorities would be switched had I not.

Unfortunately I can't start ME2 yet until I finish up Nier. LBP can be played alongside any game year(s) long.

the LBP2 demo was fantastic; I've already had my sights sets on that. ME2 is good and all, but I don't like the idea of mixing a shooter with rpg elements. I just like the traditional console rpgs

I see the appeal, but LBP is not for me. It's cute to tinker around with, but the actual game was not very interesting.

ME2 is an old Xbox game. I don't have it yet so I'll definitely get it for the system I use the most, but it's no day one purchase that's for sure. I mean if it was, I'd have it already, no?

Both for me. Had a ton of fun with LBP, especially teaming up with my kids (my 11 yr old son has become the go-to guy when the platforming gets too tough...), also, I love an RPG and can't ignore ME2's reviews.
Then there's LA Noir, UC3, Motorstorm: Apocalypse...oooh my aching wallet...

Seeing as most of the fun from the LBP series comes from the creation portion, and I didn't have enough focus to finish creating even one level from LBP1, I think ME2 will give me the most bang for my buck right now. Even so, I'm not going to be picking it up immediately, but certainly within two weeks, and I'm sure I'll pick up LBP2 before too much time has passed.

If I could afford to get even one of them it would be LBP2. Just because I own ME2 on the xbox.

If I didn't have that then I would have to say PS3 ME2. I've easily clocked more hours in Mass Effect than I have in LBP.

But between LBP2 and dS2. I'm DS2 all the way. And by DS2 i mean dead space. But even if it was demon souls 2 i would prefer that over lbp. Demon souls is one of my fave games on ps3. HOPE THEY MAKE DEMON SOULS 2.

neither for me, im spending a little time catching up on JC2, LP2, AC2(when i can get it working!), and batman AA on my PC.
really disappointed ME2 got delayed, i was really looking forward to playing it but ill have to wait till the drought season now.
:(

i really cant understand publishers these days, they release there games on the same day heaps of other big games release than wonder why they sell poorly!
like enslaved, a brand new IP going up against one of the industries most famous series!
heloooo guys, is common sense really that rare!?
its like stealing your bosses car, sleeping with his wife, killing his whole family, than wonder why he fires you the next day.

i'm a little interested in mass effect 2 but for me i will get littlebigplanet2 any day. i mean, bioware made me wait a year for it to come out on ps3, not to mention all the games they played about the ps3 announcement (mostly microsofts fault). i can just wait till it gets cheaper. hell i got both enslaved, star ocean, and castlevania for 20 bucks each. i wasnt even committed to buying those games.

LBP2! I'm sure ME2 is awesome, but I find myself feeling lighthearted. It doesn't really matter as I won't be getting it anytime soon. DS2 comes first, then a whole bunch of other releases and if there is a break in the clouds, then Sackboy. If there is no break... well... I'll just add it to my collection and wait until I find time.

Incidentally, has anyone read the ME2 PS3 review at IGN? It almost exclusively deals with story elements, while largely passing on detailing combat. There is no mention whatsoever of the graphics or sound factors until the summary at the end, which necessitates it. I've read it, and feel as though I've learned nothing about the game. Who the hell let this guy write reviews?

I just realised that a second, more off-topic rant is worthwhile being said, and this is really the closest place that I can do it.

A bloke at Microsoft went on record recently to say the the 360 is more than a games console. It's a family entertainment centre. You can watch TV and Hulu on it. And because of this it is different from the competition.

How utterly pompous! Damnit, Sony has been saying the same damn thing since day 1, and at least they can back it up with Blu-ray playback, full internet browser capabilities and PlayTV (or its variants around the world). I mean... what the? And no doubt people will buy into this BS.

Yeah I know!! I get fustrated as hell reading IGN reviews, LBP2 review was so off.."Oh I couldn't get my flying IGN logo to work so that sucks" WTF!? I mean common when its plain in-your-face that you suck at level-creation he still blames the game. Rubbish reviewers at IGN honestly..atleast how they review it anyway. I'd go as far as to say GameTrailers to more thorough reviews...though their scores are very much debatable.

I have LittleBigPlanet 2 coming simply because I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. I'm a huge supporter of the game and I enjoy all the extra goods that come with the C.E. set.

I wait on Mass Effect 2 simply because it did NOT offer a collector's edition so I won't be losing out if I purchase the game when I have time to enjoy & experience it :) Looking forward to all my Playstation 3 games!

Have Mass Effect 2 on PC already, and it truly is amazing!!! I highly recommend for anyone who appreciates sci-fi, RPG's (even if it is the modern shooter association of an RPG) or even just a great story. Customisation and story branching is truly epic!!

I'm getting LBP2 Collector's Edition with a little Sackboy plush toy. Had it preordered ages ago.

Now, if you've got Littlebig Planet 1 already, I'd go Mass Effect first cos you can explore most of the important stuff within a month. Get LBP2 once you've finished with ME2, cos if the first LBP is any indication, you'll spend nearly a whole year playing around with the level editor, downloading and testing others' levels and playing some awesome multiplayer with friends either online or on the same lounge.

Easy choice LBP2, ME2 is a of an RPG its a third person shooter and the fact that we dont get the first game of the trilogy is pathetic a childish digital comic book cant make up for that im afraid.

Some of you may disagree, but LBP is in another league. Beat's it in everyway it can do.

BTW Ben. When I said I despised MGS1 when it first released, It probably didnt just release when I played it, because I was like 5/6 not 3 :P Just to clear that up.

Well is Mass Effect 2 for me. First, I've wanted this game forever and even planned on buying a crappy Xbox for it...and Two,I just don't have any interest in a game like LBP. If I had money to spend like that I would get both, but ME2 satisfies my preference therefore I'm picking it up a little later after my basketball game. Can't wait. Now Dead Space 2 was the hard choice
