Schafer On Psychonauts 2: "We Would Love To Do It"

I'm not a fan of platformers. I understand that many are excellent but they've never been my cup of tea. ...and yet, I list Psychonauts as one of my favorite games of all time.

That should tell you something about Tim Schafer's masterpiece. And I and many other fans have been pining for a sequel ever since the original wowed us last generation. Unfortunately, as Schafer's stuff almost never blows up the sales charts and sequels are few and far between, it was just another grand title that went without a follow-up. That doesn't mean Schafer and Double Fine wouldn't want to tackle the project, though. In speaking to VideoGamer at the recent THQ showcase in New York, Schafer said that, like most things, it's merely a matter of money (lots of money) and time.

"It depends how much money you brought to the interview, so if you have a few million. We own the rights to it so as long as we stick around ... eventually, you know, I'm sure we'll get it done before the sun explodes.

We would love to do it, we would love to do it."

And we'd love to see it. That's the biggest problem with great games that don't sell well: we never get to see that concept again. It's true that we have too many sequels floating around and for the most part, the amazing titles do get recognized and do turn into franchises. But that sort of luck has always eluded Schafer and Co.

Let's hope it's done long before the sun explodes.
