Mortal Kombat Brutalizes Store Shelves On April 19
It's a reboot and an attempt to "reestablish the brand," and it's less than three months off.
It has been announced that Mortal Kombat will launch for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 19. The last entry was the surprisingly Teen-rated Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which wasn't a bad game at all, but the newest installment is designed specifically to bring back the MK cache. ...that rhymes, you know. Much of the roster will feature our old favorites and remember that the PS3 version will boast the God of War, Kratos. Based on everything we've seen and heard thus far, it really seems as if Mortal Kombat will be fantastic for the long-time hardcore fans. Maybe it'll do for the MK franchise what Street Fighter IV did for Capcom's ailing series. These days, reboots are a big deal, and that's because as the veteran gamers get older and see new experiences around every corner, they sorta miss the games they loved as youngsters.
And when their favorite franchises either disappear or change into something unrecognizable, the developer and publisher suffer some definite backlash. ...hi, Square-Enix.

The competition those two series had in the SNES years was legendary. I can't wait to get MK9 and get into the more mature and deadly world of MK.

that had everything, a chess game, tetris, the konquest mode, and the 3 style fighting was the best addition to MK ever!
i would of much preferred a deception 2.
or even a shaolin monks 2, thats by far my most played game ever!
finished it like 50 times!
i was ready to fly to netherealm studios when i found out they had a similar game staring scorpion and sub zero but canned it.
ed, how could you do this to me?????????
hope they decide to do that after this, would be freaking sweet!

On another MK note, I really hope that trailer that buzzed around for a while becomes a reality for a new movie reboot as well.

Street Fighter was never an ailing franchise, but then again I guess you never been to an arcade to gauge the fact that the game still popular and still played alot despite the influx of VF and Tekken machines that proliferate the acade floors. To further add Arcadia Magazine(japanese arcade-centric magazine) still ranks SFIII as being a money maker for Capcom despite till this day.

Reboots have nothing to with reconnecing older gamers, but has everything to do with playing it safe and cranking out sequels.
Anyhow the whole rush by developers to reboot a certain frachise just demonstrate that the industry is running out creative ideas which is quite sad.
