Rumor: Metal Gear Solid HD Trilogy Sneaking To PS3
Sure, the old Final Fantasy games would look incredible in high definition, but don't forget about the other awesome franchise: Metal Gear Solid.
HD overhauls are a big deal this generation and it seems Konami is preparing to bring MGS classics from past generations into the high-res limelight. According to "insider whispers" heard by the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine, Snake is "in the facelift queue," and the "first three" MGS titles will be remade in HD. We have no other details at this time - is it physical or digital product? - but the rumor is still quite encouraging. So far, we've only had one MGS in HD, and that was the 2008 Kojima masterpiece, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Wouldn't it be great to have the original title, Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater as HD versions in our libraries? It also might give newcomers to the series another reason to explore the classics, although we wonder if high-definition could make the first MGS appealing to younger gamers. Anything on the original PlayStation might have to be entirely overhauled from the ground up...you know, like that FFVII remake they're working on at Square-Enix.
Anyway, we'll let you know if and when this gets confirmed. We'll also be interested to learn all about Kojima's new mysterious project...

Mmmmm, all three MGS games in 1080p, 60fps with anti-aliasing and trophy support (about time one MGS game has trophies). Now Konami needs to get started on a 'Zone of the Enders' collection.

I'm sorry but if towns were actually impossible in HD then everthing else that SE put on screen would be impossible. polygons are polygons. Graphics are graphics. Synching the player's action to a treasure chest reacting and opening is no different then synching a player's character's action to and opening door to a shop...owned by a merchant you can speak to......yes IN A TOWN.

I'm a little curious. Could these be full on remakes similar to MGS: Twin Snakes?
Perhaps even designed to boot the series properly for those forlorn XBox fans out there. The complete MGS experience still doesn't exist for them.
Anyway, I hope this happens. As do I Final Fantasy.

I'm kinda hoping that it's a complete package, though. I hope it's MGS1 with all the VR missions, MGS2 Substance, and MGS3 Subsistence (but not the cut down version from the triple pack that came out a handful of years ago). I also hope it has some extra stuff for MGS4, like trophy support and a few other knick knacks.
I think it'd be pretty cool if they didn't change anything about the games, but somehow managed to re-skin them using MGS4's game engine. But it isn't necessary, at least for me. I played all three games before MGS4 came out and was able to lose myself in them just as good as I did with their original releases.

Ben, I REALLY think you are the MAN about Reviews and everything about Videogames but, again, For me MGS4 is not a "Masterpiece". In fact, you said "we've only had one MGS in HD, and that was the 2008 Kojima masterpiece, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots" AND, MGS4 is Sub-HD.
Anyway and "On Topic", "Remade" what does it mean? It's like a Remake or like a HD Collection?
thanks.

Okay, I actually own MGS2: Substance and 3:Subsistence. But, I've never played them. I rented the second one before the fourth came out, just to see if I thought I might like it, and considering I did, I went back and read through pretty much every little piece of info that I could find on the series. But yes, this would be an instant buy for the first game alone.
Hell, if there has ever been a game that Sony needs to pay to get, it's this compilation.
Peace.

All that's left is to drop in the A.I and model the bosses. Bam. If they do a simple HD remake, I'd prefer they used Twin Snakes assets (visually superior), but the dialogue and voice overs from the original PSOne game.

I'm pretty sure the spot where you go back to the beggining of MGS1 wasnt in HD? It's like ripped straight from the PS1 version. Not sure if it was even 4:3 or not, I seem to remember it being.
Anyway I would prefere the orginal in all its crappy looking gloriousnous, it's better for the nostalgia! XD

....
MGS4 Chapter 4 is nearly a full blown revisit of MGS1 with a completely HD experience.
Edit: Oh, I think Liam is talking about the dream Snake has about Shadow Moses where everything is in PlayStation graphics. I'm talking specifically about Chapter 4.

However this is really great news for those of you who can do that, plus it just shines light on a great PS3 exclusive.

The only way I'd re-buy these games is if they retrofitted the MGS3: Subsistence controls/camera to all three games. Hell, I bought MGS3 twice already.

I hope it's going to be pysicle media rather then having to download it off of PSN. I really want to add this to my collection.
I'm hoping for the MGS 1 and 2 but I would love to see them all in HD, MGS3 snake eater was awesome, It would be great to be able to play the best franchise ever in full razor sharp HD :)
Day one buy for me :D

MGS2, meanwhile, is pretty darn lousy. Far and away the weakest game in the series. No need to play through that one again, HD or otherwise.
The original game was groundbreaking, but when's the last time you played it? It's so... small. You can plow through it in a few hours time. I'd be interested to see how they adopt that one for this collection. If they find a way to make it compelling and fresh, then I'd take a serious look at this collection. For now, I'm happy with my original copies of the games.

Well, MGS3 - Subsistence doesn't have 16:9 or Progressive Scan. I REALLY want that features (1080p native.. remember is a PS2 Game. Why not?) BUT, having a Remake with an improved Engine (no "Loading times", useless installs, low res textures) with HD (720p or 1080p NATIVE) is a MUST for Me.
