PSXE Poll Update: Fans Want FFXIII-2, But Desire Changes
For the record, we started the past week's poll before Final Fantasy XIII-2 became official. We're clairvoyant and stuff.
At any rate, it's no surprise that while the majority appear to be interested in the sequel, most say Square-Enix had best make some changes. FFXIII has its fair share of detractors and even those who defend it on a routine basis (like yours truly), even those people acknowledge that S-E didn't deliver the series installment we all desired. In looking back, the only other true sequel in the franchise was FFX-2, which did boast a departure from the gameplay and structure found in FFX. Some liked it, some didn't. Personally, I was a big fan of the class system because it reminded me a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics, but others didn't like the female emphasis. Either way, FFXIII-2 is going to have to reclaim some lost fans and perhaps the best way to do that is to create a full-on, true-blue role-playing game. Of course, there's no guarantee; we might end up with something that feels more like Kingdom Hearts.
This week, we ask about the game that has been a good 13 years in the making: how psyched are you for Duke Nukem Forever? With a release date supposedly solidified, we just have to wonder if enough gamers are still interested. Duke Nukem is quite the archaic name by today's standards; most people under the age of 20 haven't even heard of him. Therefore, we're thinking maybe it's too late... But then again, isn't the Duke's swagger timeless?

Can you actually believe it...from 2006 we only got about...
2006 E3 Trailer (Noctis has swords)
2007 CLOUD Trailer (Noctis has skills)
2008 DK∑3713 Trailer (Noctis has friends)
2009 FFVIIACC Trailer (Noctis has Stella)
2010 TGS 2010 Trailer (Noctis has a game!)
2011 Theater Trailer (Noctis has a voice!)
Only 6 pieces of material...amazing. The game has been in development since 2003. Jeese I really hope it turns out to be excellent for an Action RPG and as a game.
Otherwise I'd feel sorry for Nomura san...as for Wada kun not that much.

In fact, as I write this from my office, I can hear in the background a mass slaying of zombies in Black Ops. It's their game of choice. ^.^
P.s. I just went out to ask them if they've ever heard of Duke Nukem. Of the 7 gamers out there, it's a resounding "nope". Oldest one is 18, youngest is 16.

I hadda vote yes on the Duke, but not Day 1. It might have been a day one... 10 years ago, but now I got to wait and see if Gearbox has what it takes to make the Duke reign again.

I am curious as to what they're going to do with the characters in XIII-2. Will it just be some side story about Lightning or are they bringing back some of the others? I guess it'll be laugh either way.

"IT'LL LOOK BEST ON PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I could care less if that Duke nukem game comes out or not.
FFXIII-2 is a waste of money. We should have a Yakuza 4 poll instead.
That's the game we should get more love. Instead of wasing money on FFXIII-2 I'll choose Yakuza. And for my rpg fix I'll get Neptunia, Ar Tonelico 3, and WKC2. And don't forget Demon's Souls "spiritual" sequel Project Dark. I'm covered.

As for The Duke, I was kind of caught in between the middle two. I'm not sure I'm going to purchase it until I know how good it will be, but I'm still pretty excited to see it. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and picked the more optimistic option.

its nice and all to have gorges graphics, massive boss battles.
but when the combat system is like that, and i dont have villages to explore around thats when you know somethings off.
i wish we could have neir but in a FF budget style.
neir was a pretty sloppy game, brilliant idea but poorly executed.
only reason why i liked it is because to be honest its the only game i have played this gen that i can honestly call a RPG!
made me feel like i was playing a ps1 game all over again!
only if we could have the neir gameplay, neir level design, neir upgrade system, neir combat system rolled into the FF story and FF graphics, scale, budget.
that would make the perfect FF game!

i really liked how you could go wherever you wanted, and sometimes would find yourself up against a impossible to defeat enemy at your level.
kinda reminded me of digemon back on the ps1.
just the freedom of the game, thats what all RPGs should be like.
go wherever you want, whenever you want, however you want.
the exploration in neir was by far the best part of it!

As for Duke, he'll be awesome, but he's in an FPS, and it'll have to be something special for me to pick it up, ala KZ3. If 3D Realms managed to pull that much off, and Gearbox can apply the requisite polish, it'll be fantastic, but I'll most certainly be waiting to see some reviews and whatnot.
Peace.

So exactly what type of gameplay would you guys want for this game?
*edit
About Duke Nukem, it was all too sudden for me. They literally announced the game out of thin air. I've never played any of its games, nor do I have any idea why it's worth all the attention. I have heard the name a lot, but that's about it. From what I've read recently though, it won't be in my collection of games.

As for FFXIII-2, I'll most likely pick it up as well, just down the road a little. Just as I did with FFX-2. I enjoyed that one, and I'm sure I'll probably like this one as well. Assuming it doesn't turn into a hack n' slash.

As for the Duke, I played it a lot during college, I was even anticipating it... 11 years ago... now It's a wait and see for me... I thought the graphics in the trailer were... well not really good... and the vehicles sections they showed seemed to be taken from a hot wheels game or something...

However, honestly I would MUCH rather see Versus XIII release before this. Versus has been put on hold long enough, and I really don't like waiting for them to put out the extra content of FF13 they pass off as a sequel, while getting away with charging an extra $60+ for it. Nomura needs to step up and get into gear, I've been waiting on Versus and KH3 long enough, and if 13-2 is as much of a let down as the original was, than I will lose SO much more faith in SE. The only thing they have holding me to them anymore is Versus, and KH3.
