Dragon Age II Features 103 Minutes Of Cut-Scenes

BioWare knows how to create an epic, engrossing storyline.

And this year's follow-up to Dragon Age: Origins obviously puts a very clear emphasis on plot and character development, as a reader tells us the BBFC has said Dragon Age II boasts a massive 103 minutes worth of cut-scenes. Now, there was a time in role-playing history when 103 minutes for a huge RPG wasn't exactly rare or surprising but these days, with so many games - even some RPGs - going in the direction of "faster and dumber," cut-scenes have taken a back seat this generation. Let's also not forget that technology has allowed us to see gameplay the same way we see some cinemas (Uncharted and God of War, for instance). Anyway, the game will likely receive the M-Mature rating here in North America for the same reason the BBFC gave the game its 18+ rating; for "strong bloody violence." By the way, we recently learned Killzone 3 features 70 minutes worth of cut-scenes, so let the good stories roll!

You'll be getting DA2 when it drops in March, right? You'll be all over it. Admit it. Many hours; much bang for your buck...

Oh heck yes I'll be getting it when it drops in March. Just might be getting it for the PC, I'll have to wait and see how all the versions stack up against each other.

O yeah I'll be getting it. Im pretty excited bout this game and everyday It sounds better an better! Loved the first but I've yet to play any of the dlc or expansions. O well. I'm looking to get the ultimate edition soon because I wanna play through everything before I start DA2. Not that it matters story wise but I have a thing about finishing a prequel before moving on to the sequel. But having 103 min. Of cut scenes is nuts. And I'm really looking forward to this having a strong emphasis on story. I need a good story soon! Can't wait!

I also picke up two worlds two yesterday. And if anybody cares, So far it's a good game. It lacks in te visuals and story telling. But makes up for it with a pretty big world, and leveling elements, and the quests are set up well and not to much of a hassle. The combat system is pretty good to. It's real easy to implement doing a powerful strike into your combo. Also I like that I can break down weapons ad gain material from them to add and raise statistics to the weapons I use often. Keeps me from going to the shopkeeper every 5 min. I havnt played a lot and mostly the co op adventure which would be really good if it was longer. For instance I'm a hoarder so I look for everything and 1 chapter took my buddy and I about 2 hours maybe a little longer. If you ran through it prolly would take an hour. And their is 7 chapters so... Seems decently long but wish their was more, I was expecting a bigger emphasis on the co-op nature. Their are other mp game modes though. Oh and I wish their was a better morale system. As of now it doesn't seem to have much of one. But maybe the more I play the more I'll Impact the game...

I'm one of those guys who cares so thanks for that TW2 breakdown. I've read a couple reviews too and it sounds like a good time for those who like the TES games. I'll be picking it up as soon as I'm done with FF13 and DAO.

Your welcome. I probably would have waited to had my roommate and I not been waiting so long. Which is why I broke it down real quick for those on the fence about the game. But for me, It kind of became a "we have to get it since weve been talking about it so long" type thing, ha. But yea sor far it's a very playable game. Lots of potential, and seems like theirs lots to do. And yeah so far it resembles the elder scrolls games. It's a good fix for that type of rpg until skyrum arrives.

It does have co op but It doesn't follow the main story or campaign. It's a separate 7 chapter story! Theirs also a few other mp game modes to play as well.

Well, that sounds like an entire game in itself, if you ask me! Does it depend on the single player advancement in any way like required levels or unlocks, you only has available the euipment you've collected in singleplayer, or similar kind of stuff that may be obstacles if I get the game for co-op only?

No it does not require you to gather from the SP they are separate adventures. They both have Simliar kind of weapons, armor, potions, etc... Theirs plenty of shops to barter at, as well as towns also. In fact I heard that one of the biggest maps in the game is in tge mp and not in the SP, don't know for sure yet though. The leveling works the same as well. You dont need to play the SP to reap the benefits of having good items in the mp, they are already there. And their is more character customization in the mp also. Why? i dont know.

Yes it is a game in itself. If you play it like I do which is most certainly not just running through then the whole thing should take me roughly 14 hours with 2 other friends. You can play with up to 8. We are averaging 2 hours a chapter so... My thoughts were going into the game is that you could play the campaign with friends so I was a little disappointed but now that I've been playing the co-op story it's fun, regardless. It's more of a linear story though. No side quests or anything so far, and for the most part it sets u on a path. But doing it with friends makes it fun, I'm enjoying it so far.

I put in a lot of hours into Dragon Age Origins, but the poor graphics and art style caused the game to suffer a bit. The story was alright, but not spectacular.

I'll likely pick up DAO2, but not right away. Gotta get through Mass Effect 2 and Killzone 3 first!

"Everybody" are saying that Dragon Age has so poor graphics. I don't understand that. I don't see the flaws. It's not *stunning*, but nothing that spoiled the game experience at all, in my opinon.

Loved DA:O so of course I've had this pre-ordered for some time now. Gonna be nice with that Bioware Signature ed as well.

Only had the original game up until two weeks ago. Sold it then picked up the ultimate version so that I can enjoy all the DLC and Awakening before I jump into the second game.

I like cutscenes. I don't care what anyone says, short, long, medium, they add to the fun. Since there's actually a proper main character we're probably in for a VERY good story.

I think I will wait till there is an Ultimate GOTY Version later on because I have already seen a huge amount of DLC already and we still have a while till it releases.

Love me some cutscenes too. I think I exhausted every conversational option in Dragon Age.

Yes I freakin will get this in March...gonna pick DA up later today. Been waiting to play this for a long time. Bioware needs more cutscenes, not because their aren't enough...but they made some epic cutscenes in Mass Effect 2 when available leading me to want more. Cutscenes would definitely add a wow factor to both DA2 and ME3. Yeah, these lengthy games are worth the money, thats why I'm so hesitant to buy Dead Space 2 at full price.

Do you have to play DAO to understand DA2?

This is sooooo first day buy even for me - and I'm that annoying guy who has patience to sit and wait for price drop on 95% of all the games I buy.
But after Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 I shall remain forever thankful.

I wonder how many so called gamers this announcement is going to scare away once they find out that they have to *gasp* sit and watch the story unfold instead of simply moving on to the next enemy to destroy. Metal Gear 4 received a lot of flack from the amount of story cutscenes as well did it not? And it was less than this. I, for one, welcome more story elements. An RPG is not an RPG without it. Already have the Collector's PC version ordered, now just need to finish up a few games to make room for it on release.

Depends on the cutscenes themselves, I guess. I have to admit that in metal gear solid I found the cutscenes to be dead boring myself. But that's cause I didn't understand what the heck they were talking about at all, I've not played the earlier games and they did not bother to update new players. So to me the cutscenes were just mumbo jumbo with a few really bad jokes thrown in...

I never understood why people play games later on in a series and then they get frustrated and complain that they can't understand what's going on. And then blame developers for not clearing things up more. Especially when the previous games in whatever series it is, is still readily available. But that's just me I guess.
