Final Fantasy XIII-2: What We Know
Yeah, we get it. You need to understand more about the gameplay before you get excited. And if it isn't what you want, Square-Enix is once again banished to the doghouse.
Well, while concrete details remain few and far between, we do have an update from S-E bosses Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama, who recently spoke to Dengeki PlayStation after the big unveiling of Final Fantasy XIII-2. You can find the full rundown at Andriasang, where we learn a bit more about the story, world and characters. FFXIII-2 is a true sequel, in that it will continue to deal with the concepts of fal'Cie and l'Cie, although the game covers "a different area of the Fabula mythology from XIII." The new Etro deity will be introduced and indeed, we will be starting this new adventure in the "Gran Pulse world," which immediately hints at more freedom right from the start. Fans remember playing through a good 15-20 hours of linear pathways before reaching Gran Pulse in FFXIII...
The world in XIII-2 will also "expand further," but we're not sure if Toriyama was indicating actual size, or if he was merely talking more about the story and mythology. Lighting will be the protagonist but other characters will return in "unexpected forms;" Toriyama said that some characters will be placed in a very different atmosphere. Plus, we will be introduced to new characters as well, and that includes the mysterious male character Lightning faces down in the teaser trailer (he is also shown with Lightning in the game's logo). We don't know who he is, but he's described as being "in conflict with Lightning" and is a "character of equal strength."
We have yet to learn much about the supposed "expanded combat," and that might be the most important aspect of the new project. But maybe we'll get that info sooner than you think...

but she is definitely not a well designed character.
A brick wall has a more interesting personality
and i couldn't care less about her or the retarded story that 13 had.
(didn't even bother finishing the final fight, decided id youtube the ending).
ill probably b skipping 13-2
c'mon KZ3, drake3, LBP2 and finally sometime in the near future, hopefully... 13 versus
(or, whenever squareenix decides to release something people can actually enjoy or go bankrupt, 1 or the other...)
(You haters can now thumbs down if u like)

And yes i did catch her personality shift, and yes her character did improve slightly but i still didn't care, she was still boring and uninteresting and again, a bad character.
especially when you compare her to square's other protagonists in their games.
i mean, you usually come out of the game saying, oh man that character is so awesome or they even have a lovable quality and they grow on you, but not lightning.
and on top of that i still stand that the story was garbage.
i mean they were trying to appeal to a broader audience, but the casual gamer would not be able to follow what the hell was going on. that's why 13 was in the bargain bin in my area not too long after release. it may have sold, but people sold it right back.
believe me, i was a huge fan of this game when it was coming out. telling my friends i cant wait its gonna be awesome etc etc. But when i eventually got it, awe man was i disappointed
and showing me a trailer that only shows her in armor drawing a sword does not make me want to go anywhere near the sequel, but i do hope they get their act together for it, but... they probably wont.

But the pieces are there for her to not be a bad character. It just needs to be glued together.

The writing makes her dull. I guarantee, with her history, motive, and personality in place, I could write her into a fantastic character with a couple other well established characters as a counter point.

yea i agree that they should be making the JRPG on PS3, not on Wii or 360.
however, regarding the classic JRPG flair and elements embedded in their game, SE has been lacking, thats why I said SE should take notes and learn from Mistwalker's games. SE has no problem of delivering graphic beauty, but they need to add back those classic JRPG flairs they were so good at making in the past. :D
