SOCOM 4 Assaults North American Stores On April 19

The SOCOM followers are numerous and vocal, and they once again have reason to get excited: a certain release date is here.

As announced at the PlayStation Blog, SOCOM 4 will hit North American stores on April 19, and we even get an all-new multiplayer trailer to tide us over. The game boasts a robust single-player campaign and of course, its bread-and-butter, numerous multiplayer modes. That "Not For Self" video is certainly impressive and if you're really into tactical, realistic shooters that require a healthy helping of patience and strategy, this is the experience you've been waiting for. If you're a big-time CoD or Halo fan, you probably won't be into SOCOM but then again, fans of the latter like that. If you decide to pre-order at GameStop, you'll land the exclusive "Abandoned" map for extra multiplayer fun, so maybe you should drop the $5. Zipper also says to keep an eye out for even more updates and media as we count down to the April 19 date, so stay tuned to the Blog...that, and PSXE. We do lots of daily updates, too.

Remember, SOCOM 4 also supports PlayStation Move, and we'd recommend a rifle accessory if you're interested.

Just click on the Playstation Blog link and it should take you straight to the video, which looks really good btw.

I hope the single-player is as strong as I expect the multi-player to be. Definitely excited to see what Zipper can do with the franchise on the PS3, not to take anything away from Confrontation, which I thought was underrated (once they got the bugs worked out)

Can't wait. I like COD but I love all styles of shooters so maybe I'm a rare exception when it comes to liking both.

Cool, I was really hoping for Zipper to remake Socom 2 in HD, with dedicated servers and all, but oh well.

Hopefully they've heard the cries and go back to what made Socom 2 so good. And I really wish they'd add fox hunt as a map. Even if it was as dlc Later!

This game was originally aiming for a fall 2010 release. Now it's in the middle of Spring 2011. That's a significant delay. I wonder what Zipper Interactive has been doing in that time. Perhaps integrating an optional Hardcore mode (featuring the old health system and not health regeneration) to satisfy veterans of the franchise?

Older socoms on the PS2 had campaigns. Not much for story but, it was there... I think confrontation was mp only because of slant six taking on tge developing part of it. Not to mention that's what everybody loves about tge game anyways.

Can't wait to play this game. I've been very impressed with the move controls for MAG, so I'll assume SOCOM's will be even better.
