Crytek On TimeSplitters 4: "Let's See After Crysis 2"

After Free Radical hit the skids, it was Crytek who swooped in and saved the falling studio. Ever since then, the TimeSplitters fans have been asking: "where's our TS4?"

Well, at the very least, Crytek isn't ruling it out. They still want to focus on Crysis 2 until it's out the door - and that project has already suffered one delay - so we probably won't hear anything concrete for a while. Even so, studio head Cevat Yerli told CVG that they've been "discussing it" and "let's see after Crysis 2." Although Free Radical enjoyed plenty of success thanks to the popular TimeSplitters franchise, they made the mistake of releasing the mediocre Haze and after that, the studio was forced into administration at the end of 2008. Crytek picked them up and has since been called Crytek UK, and Yerli hasn't regretted the move:

"I love working with our UK friends. The team has been performing up to the quality bar easily. Our thinking was that the team had done 80-85 rated games, and we thought that with the right technology, IP and global IP direction they could reach the 90 barrier. I'm very confident that they can do that.

Today we have around 70 plus team members working on multiplayer only. That's a huge commitment from our company and was only possible because Free Radical had that capacity and was able to grow quite fast after we took it over."

The last entry in the TS franchise was TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, and like the other titles, it was immensely enjoyable. Here's hoping that once Crysis 2 is out the door, they'll start working on the next TimeSplitters. ...however, we do get the feeling it'll be significantly altered if the project does go forward. It seems inevitable.

Crytek should concentrate on making Crysis playable before they even talk about TS4. I still can't play the demo and all I hear on forums is how it is a beta and it's gonna have problems. Well if that's the case then they should call it that.

I've encountered many problems with the demo on two separate nights.

I do find the game decently cool. It looks nice and I like having the sci-fi twist it takes. It's still basically a "been there, done that" experience but their CryEngine tech holds up nicely. From what I've seen, I'd rather have any game running on CryEngine over UE3.. assuming that the Cryengine holds up as well on PS3 as it does 360. Though, I have a hard time getting too excited for Crysis 2 seeing that it's launching after KZ3.

Everytime it goes to loading screen to a match my whole system freezes up and I can't play. I've been trying every night to see if they fixed the issue but so far no luck.

That's happened to me once. If you wait long enough it recovers you to the lobby. So yeah, it's got problems.

I left it on overnight and nothing. It was still stuck on the loading screen. I really want to play this game.

It's only on LIVE, I really haven't had any issues with it. I just want to see some ps3 gameplay.

If FREE RADICAL, one of the best development studios ever, have free control etc, cool. If Crytec start interfering and asking for realism and all that overrated stuff, i'm gonna send them a hate note posing as a love note to REALLY shake em up.

It should play more like TS2 than anything, TS3 got too similar to every other fps. Probably thanks to EA at the time.
