PSXE Poll Update: The Duke Needs To Prove His Mettle
It has been over 12 years...that's a long time to maintain excitement.
When we asked the PSXE readers how pumped they were for Duke Nukem Forever, the majority decided to adopt the "wait and see" attitude, while a great many don't care at all. Let's not forget that Duke's long absence means the younger generation of gamers are totally lost; to them, those who are interested are just a bunch of nostalgia-addled oldies. On top of which, even those who do remember Duke Nukem don't seem all that convinced in the overall quality of DNF. Gearbox is a very competent developer, of course, but considering the immensely stiff competition (especially in the FPS category), it remains to be seen if Duke Nukem Forever can compete with the heavy hitters in 2011. Either way, we remain psyched simply because the character of Duke Nukem is iconic in our eyes...in truth, he can never really die.
This week, you probably guessed: what's your take on the Next Generation Portable (NGP)? Unveiled last week, we've seen everything from that wacky debut trailer to continual price predictions. Maybe you loved it the first time you saw it; maybe you think it's sweet, but you'll wait to get one. Or perhaps you're just not into handheld gaming at all, and the NGP hasn't changed your mind. Let us know.

As for the NGP, they had me when they showed Uncharted running beautifully on it. Now I just hope my bank can support that enthusiasm.

I've not been really impressed with any gameplay of NGP, but I'm already on board with the 3DS. Alot of good stuff there. Also, with so many great games coming out this year I'm not willing to give up 6-7 home console games worth to just play a new Uncharted on the go. With near PS3 graphics, I wonder what the game prices will be.

plus its one of those very few games that actually focus on enjoyment instead of graphics.
tis why wii games are always more fun than ps3 games, because developers are so heffed up on making there game look so good they run out of time to focus on whats important, the fun!
cough GOW3..................
as for the NGP, will definitely get it on launch IF sony charge a reasonable price for it.
which is as likely as my dog waking me tomorrow morning, serving me breaky than going down wash the dishes, hang the cloths out and wash my car!
but, hey, anythings possible!
only thing i dont like about the NGP ATM is MY GOD IS IT UGLY!!!!!!!!!
i mean come on, out of all the mockups on the net they had to go with this?
seriously!!!!!
it already looks 10 freaking years old and its not even out yet!
:(
gone are the days where sony make some dam sexy kit!
hell look at their TVs, they look like sh*t in comparison to the samsungs, and hell even toshiba and panasonic.

i dunno about you, but i dont find doing the same sh*t over and over again for 10+ hours fun!
not to mention the countless backtracking, i mean half the freaking game either revolves around the room pandoras box is in or hades castle.
there was barely any puzzles either, one of the best things of the series!
im sorry, but GOW3 was a MASSIVE disappointment!
such a disappointment, it makes resi 5 look like uncharted 2!

You never make any sense. GoW3 wasn't fun..but you played the hell out of it until you got the plat trophy? You say you don't like doing the same thing 10+ hours but for you to have gotten the plat trophy it would've caused you to play the game that long or longer.
Countless backtracking?? It's called unlocking doors, solving puzzles, etc. I mean seriously..you probably haven't even played the game. Not a single gaming outlet labeled GoW3 a disappointment.

I'm sorry but the argument can't be made and you two chose 2 of the best PS3 games made as your examples.

NGP, I'd like to get on day 1, but it will depend on cost/financial situation at the time. Hopefully if I start saving now it won't be an issue.

The NGP, depending on the price, is a D1P. Love the PSP. Was playing apps on a friends iPhone today and enjoyed the accelerometer/touch screen combo, so all signs point to me enjoying the control scheme, but price and launch games are the kicker.
Peace.

NGP I will get for Xmas if:
a) it's $299 or less with basic accessories included; or,
b) Sony announces existing PSN games (i.e., those for PS3) will run on it;
Otherwise, I'll probably wait until NGP game prices start to drop. Launch games for new systems take forever to drop in price, even the crappy ones, so I'll wait until I can afford games to play on it.

Here's the thing with its awesome tech though: since it is almost as good as the PS3, I expect the games on it will be pretty much at the same level as well. Now I, as a gamer, have a certain portion of my income that I dedicate to gaming. The arrival of NGP will not increase that budget.
Buying NGP and its games will eat into my budget for PS3 games. So in a way, game sales for PS3 will receive a setback due to the arrival of NGP.
Guess that's how it rolls...!
