Rearmed 2 Includes PSN DRM: Log In If You Want To Play

Capcom included an anti-sharing DRM in the PSN release of Final Fight: Double Impact, which many didn't like. And Capcom later apologized.

But obviously, they were only apologizing for not alerting the consumer, because they've done it again with today's release of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. As noted by a NeoGAF member, and as you can see by this screenshot, Rearmed 2 requires that you be logged into the Network at all times if you wish to play. Before starting, the game will check to see if you're signed in and if you aren't, nothing will happen. The weird part is that Rearmed 2 doesn't feature an online co-op mode or a persistent online mode, like Double Impact did. This new sequel only sports an offline co-op mode, so...what's the deal? Granted, if you bought the game, you had to have been signed into the PSN in the first place (to access the Store) but even so, isn't this just a tad annoying? And beyond that, what's the point? Most PSN titles don't take their cue from Capcom on this issue so we're thankful for that.

But maybe some just don't care. They're signed in all the time, anyway. Do you care at all or are you flat-out pissed at Capcom?

I'm almost always online but I still find it kind of annoying. There's always the first BCR to play if your connection is out, though, right?

Having to be logged on to PSN to play kind of prevents account sharing. Capcom may be making an active decision to limit account sharing by multiple gamers to prevent gamers from avoiding the purchase of the game by sharing it with others.

If I were worried about game piracy and the use of custom firmware or copied games, I might require PSN login because it enforces the use of official system firmware. But, this is a Capcom thing though, and not a Sony thing. So, it's not that, it's simply Capcom being Capcom.

the reason i buy games off the psn is the game share. its about the only upside to buying a psn game over something on disc when offered. i wont be supporting this.

This is stupid. I spend my summers at a campground, without internet. Not that I'm at all interested in this game, but if I were to buy it, I could only play it 8 months out of a year.
Epic fail.

I didn't enjoy the first one. And by this act of Capcom, seals the deal that I won't be buying this one. C'mon, what'll happen if someone has erratic connection (that I sometimes encounter)? When I'm experiencing this, I either pick up Infamous or Red Dead again to play SP and complete challenges, or play non-epic scale casual games like Flower or TMNT Reshelled (nostalgia :). C'mon Capcom...

annoying. theres got to be a way to engineer a better solution to piracy, because all the current ones take functionality away from the consumer, which isnt kosher.

I don't always sign in when I play, so this would be annoying to me. Also, I have a couple of friends that we share all the stuff we get, so this would be super annoying there too.

Means if your friend bought it, you could still sign in as them to play, but no trophies for you. And your friend might not want you getting his trophies for him.

I dislike this method. I hate it when companies do this. I understand they want to disable pirating games. But this is just ridiculous. It's almost like you didn't buy it, what's the fun of that?

I'm usually always signed in on PSN, but there are certain times when the internet dies here and there. What am I supposed to do then? Pretend to play the game I spent MONEY on? If they keep doing this then they should drop the prices down by %25 or %50. Since we can only play the purchased game when the internet works it's like you don't own the full game.

No way I even want this DRM stinker anywhere my PS3 or 360 collections trying infecting them with it's skunk perfume.

I rarely log in when I play unless I want to check the store so I really hope this release flops and there isn't an increase in this DRM being used for other titles.
