Namco Prepping Big Tales Reveal For US PS3 Fans?

For quite some time now, role-playing fans have been after Namco Bandai to bring their Tales RPGs to North America.

As of yet, there have been no announcements to that effect, so the likes of Tales of Graces and Tales of Vesperia for the PlayStation 3 have remained in Japan. However, with enough of a fan outcry - and there was a significant one - publishers sometimes do respond, and it appears Namco might be prepping a big reveal: a reader has been watching a new site owned by Namco Bandai. Right now, it only features a distorted image, which seems to be the Tales of Vesperia logo. The tipster said when the site first went up, it featured a distorted Tales of Grace logo and furthermore, the image showed a date- 2.2.2011. Well, that's today...might Namco Bandai actually announce the North American release of two long-awaited RPGs? We've often said the JRPG has all but died out on consoles this generation (it's alive and well on handhelds, surely, but that doesn't satisfy everyone), so this would be great news, yes?

We'll have to wait and see what happens. We've heard rumors about this before and unfortunately, the Tales series hasn't yet broken Japanese boundaries for PS3 owners.

If Namco does this, then they will be doing what is needed to regain the trust of JRPG fans on Playstation. Until now, that trust has been squandered. Let's hope that they come through.

At the moment, there is perhaps one game from Namco I would buy, and that's Soul Calibur 5. If the Tales games actually come to the PS3 outside of Japan, I will revise that. Until that time, other than Soul Calibur, they have nothing for me.

Although, considering the incredible quality of the PS3 Ridge Racer they released back during the PS3's launch window, Namco has some very talented arcade game developers. A new Ridge Racer could be well worth the effort, if they can be bothered of course.

How long has it been? JRPG lovers who are PS3 owners are still crying for these games to be localized. I would like Namco Bandai to please show me a more loyal and starving demographic for JRPGs..

They really have no excuse to not at least release Tales of Xillia in the states. Vesperia and Graces both would be instant purchases for me.

I can't believe its been almost 5 years since Tales of the Abyss came out. And that was for the PS2.

The Tales series seem to do well when they are ported from the other consoles to PS3 in Japan. I'm saddened to see how they won't take a leap of faith and think the same thing might happen on the PS3 in North America.

I almost gave up keeping up with 'Tales'-related news because it probably would make no difference to me what they announce new, until Xillia that is.

It would be great, I just hope it isn't some prank. Website name of "A Tale of Two Richards"? A tale of two dicks? The header is ":[P"? Looks like a frowny face with a tongue sticking out.

I really hope they localise these, I'll buy them both immediately even though I wouldn't be able to play them for a while.

I noticed a lot of people are excited about the possibility of the games making it statewide, but I'm not getting excited until namco confirms it. Folks are already claiming that they're coming, yet they say that out of speculation. It may be possible since they had announced Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions for the 3DS, but I'm waiting and seeing before I get excited about anything

I played Tales of Vesperia for a bit on the 360. Didnt finish it due to the uncomfortable controller and the fact that it might come to ps3 state side. But from what i played it was an amazingly well done rpg, very polished. PLEASE namco dont be stupid, it would be instant profit bringing it over.

Namco did good for Vesperia, Symphonia, and localizing Magna Carta 2, For the life of me I can't understand how as person can claim to be a JRPG fan, then not go out and find them on whatever system they are on, Sony or not. That really befuddles me. I mean, if I like a certain food or car, I go find them, I don't wait for a store to open up on my road...

Sadly, despite advances in other genre, certain JRPG developers still treat the PS3 and it's western users like they are lepers, so yeah, we kind of are reduced to begging. Not nice, not fun, and difficult to forget/forgive.

Not just on PS3, Microsoft broke its ties with Mistwalker, probably the last true JRPG developer and former believer of turn based game play, after Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey didn't meet sales expectations and cancelled Cry On (ironic name, don't you think?).
Dough I agree the 360 has more RPG's.

I have never played a Tales game either, man I missed a lot, but if I can find a good one for a decent price I guess that just means I have more jrpgs to play now.

Any suggestions for a first Tales game to play? Start at the beginning or just grab the cheapest one I can find?

If you have a PS2 Tales of the Abyss is a good starter. GameStop sells it for 19.99 now. Great Tales game in my opinion. Tales of Destiny II for the PS1 is great too but hard to find and can cost a pretty penny. If you have a PSP you can import the PSP port of Tales of Destiny 2 in english from the UK (the game is called Tales of Eternia over there).

This is looking very good guys. I mean why would Namco do a prank like this and not have it being even near April. It would just be bad business.
Besides Namco is getting desperate now since none of their games are selling. I mean I can only play Eternal Sonata so many times.

That's a safe bet. Sega originally had no intention of localizing Yakuza 3 but finally changed their minds after many months of (figurative) screaming and whining. And after Yakuza 3 sold well in the West it convinced Sega to also localize Yakuza 4.

We could easily enough be in for a similar situation with Tales of Graces F.

Tales of Graces F actually received the highest score out of all the 'Tales of' games by Famitsu magazine. It received a 37/40 (10/9/9/9).

Huh. I guess I'm the only one not all happy about this. Yeah, we finally get a Tales game, but only after Bamco shafted us by keeping them in Japan for so many years, while giving us crap games. I do not like the way they treated their international fan base so they can take Graces f and shove it up their ass. It's like a situation when a girl gets abused but always gives him a second chance in hope of change. IF that change does come, does that excuse all the things in the past? NO!! If I were to buy this game, I'd be a hypocrite. I'm probably going to get Fallout New Vegas or something

I see it the opposite way. It's not like they tried to cater to a market that left it's fans out in the cold. They just felt like it didn't make sense to localize a game to a market they believed wouldn't be too into their games.

The Tales of series is one of my favorites, especially a couple from the PS1 era. (I was SO stoked when Tales of Destiny 2 had voice acting! lol. By the way, it's Tales of Eternia for PSP now. Same game. I did a PSP review on it a while back.)

And yeah, I've been bummed not to see it here, but now I'm really happy it's coming. Definite purchase for me. Besides, had it released any earlier, it might not have had trophies! ^.-

With how much "nay" saying Namco Bandai has done with regards to releasing these games outside of Japan, this is almost hard for me to believe. We PS3 owners have been letdown so much this gen with JRPGs that I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet.

Case and point - NB did say that Tales of Graces F was going to hit the Wii as well didn't they? Until I see a release date for the PS3 in the US, I'm going to wait for more info.

Don't get me wrong Leno I am optimistic just not going to get super excited just yet.

Just want to make sure there are no loose ends that come back to disappoint. With that said Tales of Graces F was initially meant to be on the PS3 so there is no reason it shouldn't play out in our favor.

Great Scott! I just went to the link and I believe you're right. Guess its a waiting game. The localized release of Vesperia on PS3 would instantly out NB ahead of SE in my book at this point.

The Tales series are still true JRPGs... minus the turn-base of course.
