Black Ops Deaths Equal 9 Times The World's Population
Call of Duty: Black Ops is the most popular CoD entry yet, and the numbers are absolutely mind-boggling.
Since its November launch, Treyarch's blockbuster has apparently been played by everyone on the face of the earth. The statistics thus far: over 5 billion headhsots, 1 billion aircraft shot down, and total deaths equaling nine times the world's population...which translates to about 62 billion. Activision proudly released these numbers and noted that 161 World War II's are fought every day, and more than 1.1 trillion shots have been fired. The RC car has taken down an absurd number of victims, 3.4 billion Crossbow bolts have been fired, the favorite gun is the Famas, the favorite Perk is Marathon, and oh yeah, over 10 billion Paybacks. Property damage has also been sky-high as the number of cars destroyed is closing in on 1 billion. So love it or hate it, Black Ops is a massive hit and those numbers will only continue to grow until Modern Warfare 3 drops later this year.
But it also poses an interesting question: can MW3 - or any Call of Duty, for that matter - ever top Black Ops? Well, they thought nothing would top MW2, so nothing's impossible.

Your point is a good one, but I think it's a matter of emphasis. Drake is fighting obviously evil bad guys and mutated creatures in an effort to save the world. Call of Duty and other games of it's ilk are multi-player shooters from the ground up. Their solo game elements are the afterthoughts. The games simulate real locations and real combat, with the only aim of the game being to kill the enemy. With Drake, one thing I would love for Naughty Dog to have done more of is allowing Drake to use stealth to get through levels without simply taking out every bad guy in sight.
But I believe that my point still stands.
@Worlds,
I realized that two Shions, although pretty, were unnecessary. Who better to take the second Shion's place than Aeris?

No one ever had a problem with that back then. But now the problem is that it's first person, the graphics are getting realistic, and there is an insane amount of blood and death animations (a la Dead Space 2). So now everything is just more REAL.
Most games.... no matter if it's turtles and goombas in Super Mario, or terrorist factions in CoD....most games are about KILLING the bad guy.
I understand your point, where some games throw in a ton of story (Metal Gear, Uncharted, etc) CoD is just killing people, esp MP(No story). And in Uncharted you can use stealth.....stealth KILLS...hahah. I do wish the games that were at the top of the sales chart were the ones that deserve to be there, not just the ones where you shoot stuff and stuff goes boom.

People who don't watch basketball faithfully might think the Lakers are the best team right now because they know the Lakers have been to the finals 3 straight times, even though they actually aren't the best team so far this year. It's all perception and the average gamer believes CoD is the best even though it's not.
Give CoD its props. They can sell a mediocre game because they play hard ball when it comes to business. Their success lies in their sells and their success is the result ofgood business practices(advertising, not overpriced DLC and eventual paid online...lol).

i also agree with a relevant previous statement that a lot of players think they can fight in a real war if they are good at COD. thats just creepy and worrying - its a game! realism is very subjective. when you hear reps from army say its realistic on TV, its a promotion, they are getting paid buckets of money to say it! my fondest memory was hearing a player say "watch out, he's on your 6". Wow.

It took until level 15 before I started to really enjoy MAG. There is definitely a bit of a learning curve. Kinda like the learning curve in Killzone 2, sorta.
Anyways, I'd like to say COD does a lot of things right in terms of FPS and fun. MAG also does a lot of things right. I wish there was a way to merge the two.
COD:
-- you can immediately RUN from crouch or prone position
-- a cool 'thud' sound when you're hitting the opponent
-- many, many rewards for various stats. e.g. 500 kills with a certain gun, 10 wins on Domination, etc.
MAG:
-- character customizations are truly awesome
-- "land mine" perimeter to prevent other team from taking over your spawn area
-- buy/SELL items

They said the same thing about MW2.
Gaming is growing, and that effects the amount of people playing games, which means more people are going to be playing COD with there friends. I hope that Homefront, KZ3 and Risistance 3 can have a impact on COD. 2011 is a big year, I wonder if it will slow down the servers just a little for black ops.
The only time I played this game is on split screen, never played online or story mode, its the same thing year after year, and know, sadly, the same thing twice in the same year.
please somebody, do something about these cows who are being milked dry, and it doesn't sound like they will be dry any time soon.

The favorite perk is Marathon??? Really????
What a terrible perk.... Honestly... who would want that over Hardline or Ghost? Do people really need to be moving fast 24/7 to have fun?
So not only are FPS's a top form of entertainment, but people can't even be smart with them...
EDIT: Even my CoD-nutt friends are getting sick of this title. Last year we played MW2 every week it seemed. The last time we played, it only last 20 minutes because everyone was frustrated with the poor quality of the hosting and general experience. The game's multiplayer is cool, but it's SO broken.
Finally... it seems we will soon move on from CoD! None of us want to buy the next one! (I might rent MW3 just to finish off the story from MW2, but I won't be buying it.)

Offensive advantages, yes, if you think you can catch people off guard or you're faster at aiming and shooting than the average person. But if you are playing me, it'll just get my kill count fed. Nothing defensive. I laughed at that because marathon runners get me attack dogs.
Even when all 6 of my friends are playing, NONE of us use marathon. And only Nick (our sniper) camps. And if I was playing a team FULL of marathon sprinters? Guess what? We're gonna camp your a$$ cause you seem to enjoy running into the same trap over and over. What... you want us to stop camping a team of sprinters? Why? So we don't have to bear the berating of 6 year olds who think we're "cheap"?
Every single one of we 6 that play together have K/D's over 2. And I'm telling you, when there aren't 6 of us, the worst player on our team is using... you guessed it... marathon runner.
It's a perk that should ONLY be used by someone on offense in Capture the Flag. That is the only time we ever use it.
But hey... I hope they leave it in so people are always slower at aiming down the scope than I am.

had to laugh today when one of treyarchs community managers stated the industries biggest problem is whining gamers.
your kidding me right?
you release a unfinished broken game, expect us to pay 120 bucks for it, 20 bucks more than most games, than release the DLC, release one or 2 patches that really dont fix anything.
and stay content with it?
im sorry, but if im paying 120 bucks for a game i expect perfection!
or at least improvement, when i pay 120 bucks for a game and 4 months later see no improvement in the games quality we got a problem!
than you insult your fans like this?
well heres a open letter to antivision and treyarch.
F*CK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stingy tight assed selfish mother f*ckers should be banned from making video games for life!
