God Of War Rumblings At Sony?
After completing the epic God of War III, Sony Santa Monica wouldn't say anything concrete about the future, but they have said they don't want their award-winning franchise to become an annual occurrence.
However, are we already seeing evidence of a new God of War project? All the rumors and speculation you've heard likely started with new job listings at Sony Santa Monica; those jobs can be found at the Playstation Careers website. You can also see a screen capture of several of those jobs at GamerXChange. It seems they're hiring for the following positions:
- Senior Tools/Technology Programmer (God of War Team)
- Senior Online Programmer (God of War Team)
- Senior Graphics/ Technology Programmer (God of War Team)
- Senior Gameplay/Generalist Programmer (God of War Team)
Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the new employees will be working on a new GoW title, but Sony Santa Monica is certainly best known for one of gaming's series. We have no idea if Kratos will be back and in truth, considering the ending of GoWIII, there's no knowing where the team will go for the fourth installment.
It seems HipHopGamer may have some inside info as well; GoWIV will feature 3D, co-op, and "better visuals" (as if that's any huge shock). But right now, we know nothing and we have to admit that. Perhaps we'll get a huge unveiling at E3.

I'd actually want Santa Monica to make a new IP, because it would be fresh and interesting!

I do agree that SM should also look into another IP but they are big enough to do both. Are they not?

But seeing how NGP as a platform is closer to console platform than not, and seeing how as they'll be pushing as many flag-ship titles as they can, I wouldn't consider it outside the realm of possibility.

I am really excited to see where they take it though. There are several mythologies out there that could work really well in GoW, and the possibilities are endless for what new weapons, magic, characters, creatures, and environments they could add.
Of course they could always pursue a new IP, and I think that would also be a good move for them, but if they keep making high quality GoW games that don't come out yearly then they'll be just fine. Plus GoWIV's probably going to have significant changes now that we're out of Greek mythology, so either way it'll be interesting to see what these guys put out next.

Maybe he found a scientist that enables him to travel back in time, in a Delorean preferably, and the only way he can use this is to do his bidding for him.

Also I thought what if the gow franchise branched off into different mythologies. I still dont know how gowiv would work but id sure play it if it did come out.

theres still heaps of ground to fill in between GOW1 and GOW2 and GOW2 and GOW3.
i just hope its not like 3, bring back the brutality of the original, bring back the scale of 2 and the brilliant puzzle and level design.
GOW3 = the industries biggest disappointment EVER!!!!!!!!!
in all honesty though stuff GOW, put SM on a heavenly sword sequel.
now that would be freaking epic!!!!!
either that, or a new IP, something different to what we have now something completley unique, and totally different to GOW.
they have, well did master hack and slash games till GOW3, so can they master another genre?

I agree completely that it will not/should not be a sequel and that taking the best of all 3 GOW entries would blow our minds.
Heavenly Sword in SMs hands would be outrageous but Nariko and Kratos crossing paths would be a PS3 wet dream come reality.

i was expecting it to be like 1 or 2 but bigger and in HD, but what i got was a totally new IP!
wheres the story?
wheres the puzzles?
wheres the platforming?
wheres the fantastic level design?
wheres the brutality?
wheres the fun!?
GOW 1 and 2 were classics, i can play them over and over again and never get bored of them!
GOW3 i finished 4 times if i remember right, but only to get my plat, once i got that it was straight back to EB.

Had you played GoW 1 & 2 then the story had already been laid out and 3 was a continuation. I can agree that there was a lack of puzzles in the game. There was plenty of platforming, and level design was good.
GoW 3 was packed with brutality. I mean what more could you want? Helios got it bad, Hercules, Hermes, and Zues got it bad as well. I had worlds of fun with GoW 3.
Again..I'm lost at how you can bag on a game..Yet turn around and say you beat it 4 times and got the plat for it? Nobody plays a game that much if they don't like it. Again, I really think you never played it...

But a Norse setting would provide incredible fodder for the next GOW universe and story arc. Here's hoping that's the direction they take the series, on PS3, next.

I would love to see the most badass character in v-games back.
The story is the only thing preventing that. The way they could fix this is by introducing a world where the Greek Mythology era didn't end. Yes you heard me.

But if they must "move on" let it be Heavenly Sword 2
