The Darkness 2 Revealed, Prepare To "Quad-Wield"

By current standards, The Darkness looks archaic. But the game doesn't get enough credit for being one of the first super fun titles of the generation.

That's just our opinion but we figured it'd be a positive introduction to the following: although Starbreeze isn't handling development duties, it has been revealed that a sequel is in the works. Slated to arrive this fall and being created by Digital Extremes, The Darkness 2 will break free from the standard first-person shooter mold. Featuring giant Demon Arms, "stylistic violence" and Quad-Wielding, it certainly sounds appealing. From the press release:

"The Darkness II breaks out of the sea of conventional first-person shooters, with its fervid Quad-Wielding gameplay, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with their Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons."

And it seems they're well along in development, because Marc Silvestri, founder and CEO of Top Cow Productions and co-creater of "The Darkness" comics, seems quite pleased with the game:

"So often disappointed when a favorite character gives birth to a lame movie or video game, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it. But not with The Darkness II. Yeah, call me biased [Ed's note: We did!], but this second installment of Jackie Estacado's epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I've ever played. 2K Games hammered this one out of the park."

We've been waiting on this announcement for a good four years now; even if Starbreeze isn't handling it, we're still hoping for something wicked sweet.

Yea The Darkness was one of my Ps3s 1st games I've ever played. It kinda creeped me out a little when I was playing it in the night. The voice acting for that Demon in you was really good. Great game, great game. Can't remember if it was exclusive, was it?

I liked The Darkness from what I played of it. I traded it in for the original Resistance. It was a multiplat....I still have the game save so I'll pick it up again for $5

I totally agree. I loved the story and the way it was delivered. Darkness was indeed a great game.

I'd personally prefer a third Condemned game but i am pleased & surprised to see this getting the sequel treatment. It's been what, four years? Hopefully that big gap means big improvement on an already solid game with good ideas.

Definitely agree. But it's nice to see that an ignored great game can manage a sequel. My faith is this business is a little restored.

I really enjoy The Darkness. The comics are one of my favorite series. I hope they model the story after the old comics storyline! Put in the Angelus as the main bad guy and it would rule! Throw in Magdalena and some Witchblade and we will have a nice family of awesomeness!

Then they can make a Witchblade game! :D

I enjoyed the first game, but I only wished that it would have stayed inside the story of the original comic. Although the story in the game was still great. I have always wanted a sequel! Dream come true!

Didn't even know about this game until a couple days ago, The Darkness I mean not the sequel. So what's the deal? You'll have four Goro style arms? Won't the screen get kinda crowded? How do ya aim them all?

I'm sure we'll find out in the coming months. 2K doesn't disappoint in my experience.

Two living demon heads(protruding from your shoulders)on both sides of the screen acted as the HUD,the colour of their eyes depicted what power you had sellected, the size of their eyes was the amount of darkness you had left(acted as a shield and was used up with the cooler powers like creeping death and blackhole).
There was no ammo or health counter, eating hearts(hnmm)increased your darkness stamina and unlocked new powers.if ya ran out of darkness in a gun fight you were pretty much dead.Shooting out lights or smashing with the demon arm was vital as darkness ensure that your almost invulnerable(awesome).
i think L1 n R1 were powers and L2 n R2 were for guns,the HUD system worked really well.
Plus the voice acting(Mike patton) for the demon was top notch!!
first time commenting in about 2 years,i now return to the abyss.

Can we get a "Johnny The Homicidal Maniac" video game? I think that would be an awesome game given the source material

Man I played the demo for the first one and I hated it. Granted I am not a fps fan, but the game seemed awfully glitchy.

Also didn't care for the fact you had to shoot out all the lights to use your darkness powers, which ended up leaving you without any ammo.

A friend raved on The Darkness, but I never got around to it. I'll get it if I ever see it again.
Peace.

Heh... did no-one else pick up on the "co-creater" typo? I didn't until just now. Blame it on being half-asleep when I first read the article.

Just played the demo, FPS gameplay was so so to me, but the hirtory looks great also a damn FPS character WITH CHARISMA instead of the bland military hack.

Sounds damn interesting, especially quad-wielding. I never got around to the first one sadly, but I did watch my friend play it a bit and it looked awesome. Now I might have to get it with this one coming out.

quad wield?
oh yea, 2 guns and 2 of those evil arm thingys!
so cant wait for this, the original was so much fun, and one of the spookiest games i have ever played!
not scary, but kinda weird and twisted, some of the death video were just plain wrong!
for such a short and small budget game had a really good storyline to it, which is quite rare for games these days!

I love the first one, it was my 2nd PS3 game that I purchased (I think the first one was Heavenly Sword). Anyway, I am very excited about this news and very much looking forward to it!
