A Half-Million Sample KZ3, Guerrilla Preps Patch

If you track back to later last year, Guerrilla has been testing Killzone 3 for quite a long time.

And the most recent test, the multiplayer public beta trial currently available to download from the PSN, may prove to be the most fruitful. This is simply due to the sheer number of participants: around a half-million, according to the latest update at the game's official site. We found the private beta to be pretty damn solid last year, but Guerrilla has noted new bugs and issues that need to be addressed. A patch, which is already available in Europe and might drop today in North America, should fix most or all of the following problems:

  • Connection problems
  • High load caused the database to fall over
  • Score posting
  • Flickering screens
  • Ribbon stats not updating
  • Vulgarity filter

As for raw numbers, Guerrilla reports that over 500,000 players have already participated in over 350,000 matches and there have been 55 million kills. This is all in the first week of the multiplayer beta's availability, so that's pretty impressive. A single-player demo will be up on the PSN next week - February 15 - and the hotly anticipated PS3 exclusive will hit store shelves on February 22. Are you ready?

I haven't finished any FPS games, but I tried the multiplayer beta for Killzone 3. I had fun, even if I kept getting killed. LOL Anyway, those are nice figures for just a week of being available to the public. Great job, Guerrilla!

I've had plenty of connection issues and about a dozen different error codes! I can't imagine each error code I've received is for a different connection issue. None the less when I'm on it, it's a great experience!

I'm really excited for this game! I got my gun attachment pre-ordered and the game pre-ordered! Sounds like my Gamestop is doing a midnight release as well!

Single Player demo is already available for PSplus members in NA. I downloaded it last night, but had to go to bed before the install finishes. (My PS3 auto shuts down after 1 hour of inactivity) So I haven't tried it yet.

But it is available for PS plus members.

Ha, I was in the same situation last night too. The update came rather late in the day. I checked at one point at around 8:30 pm (EST) and nothing, but it was there at 10:30 pm! It was 1.5 GB file, so I too had to go to bed before it finished downloading.

I haven't been able to connect since Friday. And when I do ,I only get into a few games before it disconnects.I'm really wishing this update fixes the connection problem .Bots are OK to play with I guess ,but a real person behind the character makes it better.
Oh one more thing ,I download the single player demo and it was alot fun.

Guerilla deserves all the success in the world with KZ3. The beta is amazing. I played the single player 4 times before work this morning, and it makes the wait for the 22nd worse. The jetpacks are the sh*t and Rico is actually tolerable.

It's fun, but the MP beta didn't really wow me, especially the difficulty in connecting to a game.

On a side note, is it just me or KZ characters feel/look a bit stubby (short and wide)? Also, it takes a lot of time to really kill someone. KZ2 had good hit detection, I'm guessing GG needs to work on that for KZ3.

@spiderboi
You are kidding, right?
I mean the part about the taking a lot of time to kill someone in KZ3? Not sure how much KZ2 you played, but it's probably 3 times easier to kill someone in KZ3 now.
In fact, that's actually a complaint by some on the Killzone forums... that it's too easy to kill and be killed now.

As for height, I think it's just Sev that appears to be a little too short in KZ2. I think they needed to raise the camera height a bit. Hopefully this is fixed in KZ3.

The camera in KZ2 is more or lest in Sev's chest. Kinda retarded, but it doesn't affect the quality of the game imo.

My wife runs a before and after school program, and she says a couple of kids talk about Black Ops all the time. One kid even brought the game to school. Apparently the kid's 8 years old.

Some parents need a good whoppoppage. lol I can see a mature 13 year old playing it...

But EIGHT?! Even if the content of the game itself is permissable by some parents (strange to me, but whatever), the different user names, clan tags, and especially emblems some people put up there are SOOOO bad. Some of these kids need a good smackin'... er... stern talkin' to.

I've had no problems getting online at all. I like the Online Beta a lot. To me, it feels that I have no weight at all. But that could be because I was so used to the weight on KZ2.

Not going to play the campaign demo. I can wait 13 days for the whole game. I'm with others in that my only gripe is that it's a pain to get revived and always end up looking the opposite direction...only to get shot in the back..

Judging from the SP demo, (which was amazing to say the least) I'm guessing 9.0 to 9.2. Some parts feel a little rough, & not quite fleshed out as much as you'd want (pacing was a little off..I guess this is just an extract from the middle of the full game) but overall, this game is definatly worthy of elite status.

I didn't like the fact that most of the guns in the beta were one hit kills and could reach you from far far distances like an SMG. I heard Ben complain about this in his preview and now I know what he's talking about. I kind of like the new feel of the controls and the graphics looks crispier. With that said...KZ3 looks great and I haven't experienced any bugs, but then again I only played 6 matches.

Forgot how great killzone looks, and it plays like a dream now. pardon me for not being a huge fan of the weight in killzone 2. it didn't bother me too much, but im glad they made the change.

One thing im surprised about, this can be good or bad depending on others opinion, is how accurate the ISA LMG is ( the one with the iron sights ). I don't recall it being is steady as it is now. Actually, quite a few guns feel steadier.

Um, not many people have touched on this on here but I own the Move and I was extremely anxious to try this beta with it. After playing for hours with it I've concluded, IF you can keep a steady aim (no shaking hand syndrome, which isnt hard if you rest it on ya leg or knee) then it seems to work EXTREMELY well.

Of course everyone has to calibrate their Move before playing, so I suggest playing with the deadzone options and the turn speed.

Since I hit the sweetspot settings wise, I dont really want to go back to the DS3. And I think the Sharp shooter will make it that much more awesome and controllable!

Dont just pass it off as a gimmick people, Move REALLY works if you get around the learning curve and stick with it. Zooming in and shooting enemies from across the map is an amazing and surprisingly easy thing to do with the Move. I have yet to test the 3D functionalilty with Move though :(

I did try it out with the Move too. At first, I was standing but things didn't work out so well, as you said "shaking hand syndrome" (Move is too precise!). Then I decided to sit down and like you said, resting on your knee or leg helps a lot! I personally still don't have all the options set up to where I'm comfortable but it is interesting and I'll be sure to give it a go with the single player demo tonight!

It does take time to get used to a totally new experience when we're so used to using a controller, but I do think it's worth it.

Well I'm glad they're putting out a patch. I've gotten in one good 2 hour session with the open beta, the rest of the time whenever I try to get in all it ever does is say, "Connecting..." at the bottom of the screen for eternity. I let it sit there for 2 hours once, came back, and it was still, "Connecting..." I've had errors a couple times too. Hopefully this patch fixes all those problems.

Btw, for those who have played the single player demo, is it the demo shown at E3 last year, or something completely different?

I do have one problem with the beta, It's still a great experience. I'll get use too it but It's not what I expected. The "heavy" feeling, it's just not their, at all. I loved the heavy feeling of KZ2 but it almost feels as... if...it's... as light as COD... I hate saying that but I was hopeing for some heavyness. They said some of it would be their so they can make everyone happy. But, It's just feels like it ant there at all to me.

I hate comparing it too a game like COD, KZ is on such a higher level.
