Analyst: New GTA Won't Make It Out This Fiscal Year

We can all imagine how amazing it would be to see the next Grand Theft Auto drop for the 2011 holiday season.

Yes, we can all imagine it...doesn't mean it's going to happen. In fact, according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, the chances of the fifth installment appearing before March 2012 are pretty darn low. No such title was on Take-Two's "games on the horizon" list and right now, Creutz doesn't see GTAV launching in the company's fiscal year- "Our belief that a FY12 release of GTAV is highly unlikely at this point." At the same time, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter says the game in question is "well into development:"

"We fully expect the next instalment of Grand Theft Auto to be released by Q4:12 at the latest, as the company's contracts with the three employees most instrumental in the game's development (Les Benzies, Sam and Dan Houser) expire in January 2012. In our view, management would have been irresponsible to enter into a contract with the three without some type of milestone for delivery of the game prior to expiration."

So the jury is still out. For now, both Rockstar and Take-Two remain mute on the subject; they prefer to focus on their new upcoming titles like L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem Forever, and set for the 2012 fiscal year, Bioshock: Infinite. Yes, but...our GTA...where's our GTA...

Analysts are retarded.

This is easy for anyone to predict when you understand E3 is the only thing that matters to big devs/publishers now.

E3 and then the game comes out the following year.

I'm more interested in the Saint's Row series now, in my opinion, they are more fun than GTA.

GTA4 and Red Dead were released in May-June. It's safe to assume that GTA5 won't make it June 2011, possibly not even June 2012 if we don't hear anything from it on E3 2011.

GTA is such a large franchise. It's impossible to not leak some signs of production. We haven't heard anything about GTA5 other than from these "analysts". Why should we get all excited so early?

GTA is over, it can't do anything worthwhile anymore. Well, aside from rake in massive sales. GTAV would be something I got later at a low price. I loved GTA in its heyday but it would need massive changes to get me excited again.

Bioshock and Agent please.

Agent should be amazing , gta 4 let me down at release i expected something greater but after time when you play itand platinum it you really see how good rockstar is at creating open world games. In 2008 pretty much all multuplatform games ported on ps3were laggy or poorly made . Rockstar did a good job , and if it wasn't for xbox limitations we would have had a game twice as bigger and better, but hey thats where Agent comes in :)

I really feel like GTA has become a bit irrelevant. You can't have it both ways. GTA telling stories like the Wire and keeping the same off the wall gameplay. If they somehow try to recapture the flair and fun and activity in GTA2 and Vice City then I would be interested. Minus "trying", key word there to take themselves seriously. More mature and gripping forms of storytelling I feel are going to rule the industry from now which get both directions right. Gameplay and story. How am I supposed to make sense of my "conflicted" cliche (ethnic to boot) character going through the story as I can randomly run over pedestrians without any real longterm consequence.

I always found it laughable that some critics called GTAIV's script and story "oscar" winning. As if the oscars have ment some for a few decades now.

Good point smokey. A gripping story suddenly becomes less gripping if you are able to make your character a spree killer for a while and then go back to the story like nothing happened.

Good point World. Maybe they can make it like Hitman and have people recognize you and stuff. Or have certain missions available depending on how you play the game. too bad they don't have 50 gigs to play with, so they could explore lots of options.

Well last gen we had GTA 3 and two side stories(vice city & san andreas)
This gen we have GTA 4 and two side stories but they were dlc and later released on one disc so we could see another GTA side story before this gen comes to a close.
I think GTA 5 will come next generation.

There are already too many games for the ps3 this year. It would be wise for both us and the business to save some for 2012. They wouldn't want 2012 to be 2006/2007 where very few worthy games are released. Plus its not like Rockstar isn't busy. They haven't even touched Agent yet it seems.

I've only played 2 GTA's, San Andreas and GTA4. SA was awesomeness, GTA4 was uber suckage.

I'm glad GTAV isn't coming out soon, maybe that means it will actually be good.

I'm sure they're working on it, but after seeing the renderings in LA Noire I'm sure they want to implement that tech into GTAV.

Let 'em take their time. Rockstar/Take-Two seem to like taking forever making certain games, but they almost always turn out high-quality. Case in point, Red Dead Redemption.

theres no freaking way this will be out next year!
R* north who always do the GTA games are working on agent, which i seriously doubt will be releasing this year.
not to mention that was only announced a year and a half ago, we all know R* take there sweet time making games normally 3+ years so ill be surprised if agent is out before E3 next year.
R* seem to like may, tis when RDR released and is when LA Noire is releasing so ill bet may 2012 is when agent will release, then a E3 2012 announcement for GTAV with probably a 2014 release.
all depends on when the next consoles arrive though, everyones expecting them to be 2013 so that could delay the games to be redone for the newer systems, or push them forward to get out of the time frame of the newer systems.

Well considering the fact that we've heard no more info about the game is this really any surprise. I actually would like to see the new saint's row with that same fun only this time with a better story.

I'd rather see new IP's from Rockstar. Like Victorian London, you start off as a pick pocket at a young age, then rise up to become a leader of a gang, or you take the role of 'Jack the Ripper'

Hopefully Agent, will be worth the wait. Maybe we'll get a release date at this years E3
