Guerrilla Ceasing Online Support For Killzone 2?
Killzone 3 is merely 10 days away. The public multiplayer beta is available to all those interested and a single-player demo will drop this week.
Obviously, it's full steam ahead for Guerrilla's hot new project. But what about those who have played and supported Killzone 2 over the past few years? While it makes sense that the developer is shifting its focus to the new title, it seems Guerrilla has unceremoniously kicked those fans to the curb: according to several forums and communities, it seems the KZ2 online leaderboards haven't been updated and player rankings have been frozen. Many like to play for the benefit of Trophies and weekly rankings but as of now, it seems nothing is happening...might KZ2 already be dismissed entirely? You can find evidence of the halt in support at the official Killzone forums, as well as at the PS3Trophies forums.
The biggest problem is that if support has indeed ended for KZ2, the fans never received any prior warning from Guerrilla. Furthermore, no Guerrilla staff members are answering any questions anywhere, which isn't going over well, either. Perhaps one could make the argument that it's to be expected with KZ3 right around the corner, but even so, it's never a good idea to have miffed fans in your stable. We'll have to see if Guerrilla makes an official KZ2-related announcement this week.

Then for seconds, Killzone 3 has dedicated servers! the reason your struggling to get on, is because its not a demo, its a beta, the idea is for an online beta is to test the servers under stress, since the beta is free off the store, more people have downloaded it (i read 5 million somewhere, not a fact though) then with the proper game, not as many people will buy it then just download the free beta. meaning the servers will be less stressed, as once i do get into the game, ive never played an online match thats so good, honestly you play killzone 3 compared to summin like lag of duty, and the difference is just huge, its like playing single player campaign its thats good.
So to say how its turned out to be so horrible, its just so stupid, words cannot describe.

I never depended on reviews. To me it is just entertainment. Although I have found that PSX reviews seem to reflect closely with what my thoughts are for many games. I am realistic and hate sugarcoating or undeserved bashing. To me that is a sign of immaturity. No place for that in reviews.

Anyway I don't listen to reviews anymore unless the review says the game is completely broken, but even then I might rent it if I was really interested in it before. All in all it seems a lot of professional Journalists are going down a less than honourable path when it comes to reviews.

It's true that GG silence is unnerving, but I'm sure we'll hear something soon. If they don't respond they'll be hurting KZ3 sales that's for sure.

If developers plan on shutting down servers then they should limit online trophies or eliminate them altogether. What if someone decides to purchase Killzone 2. It will not have many features that are advertised on the box. Of course these are the benefits of purchasing the game when it is released but not eveyrone will look at it that way.

@Fathusan, I agree with your statement though we do agree to their Terms of Service when we attempt to login for the first time. I am pretty sure some where in there is says Guerilla reserves the right to close down servers and stop support any time they choose without notice. Crappy, I know.

As i'm on the subject i'd prefer if they only relased single player trophies with the disc and then when you go online you could download an online trophy set that doesn't interfere with you progress toward the plat trophy, its just lame that you have to be the best player in mp for an entire week to get a certain trophy in KZ2.Think of all the people who don't have the internet but got trophy support through a disc update, they'll never get the platinum trophy and neither will i because i suck at KZ2 MP ;(

That was you. You slam on KZ3 in the first reply, claiming the average high-8 review score are "horrible" and then insult everyone else.
So. Shut it or leave.

I for one really like the call of duty games, and I think they are unfairly looked down upon because of popularity and activisions arrogance. But I still agree with most posters on most every thing else.
But if it is bothering you that bad, maybe take your issues elsewhere, where there are more like minded individuals. I really don't see the obsession with being in the minority on a site, and sticking with it. Is it in the hope that you'll convince people that you have a point (which you clearly don't)?
I don't post very often on any of the sites I enjoy reading, but this type of ignorance always annoys me.

Hopefully it's a minor issue that will be fixed, but either way they need to tell their fans what is going on.

Nobody is that dumb, KZ is for all intents and purposes a newish IP (Few even tried part 1 on PS2) and they are still growing the brand. GG should know some people have yet to get on board and will start with a cheaper copy of KZ2.

I usually don't interfere with someones opinion cause If you feel that way then its all good but the statement "on someones dick" usually means that you are sweating them and just cant get over it. So if you look at it from others point of view it seems like you are on their dicks. Especially when you initiated the conversation.
PSX=Playstation Extreme. That should have been the first indicator. Don't be surprised when some members defend their console of choice.

And so far, you're the only one in the wrong thus far. People are getting mad at you for a good reason. This site has a reputation for intelligent conversation. People often disagree here, but very rarely do they get as offensive as you are now. And when many of us inevitably do get offensive, we get called on it. And most of us apologize for anything that was out of line.
You can't blame people for thinking you are a troll. You're behaving completely unlike anyone else on this site would. Plenty of people here don't like popular games like CoD or top notch titles like Gran Turismo, and that's fine since it's often a preference issue. But you're behaving out of line in a way people here won't tolerate. Instead of blind uneducated accusations, you should try to develop a good case for why you feel the way you do. People might not agree, but they'd at least respect your opinion.

Also, I know that they'd have to pull all of the multiplayer map packs off from PSN. And they'd also have to yank the GH edition of KZ2 from store shelves. The one that has about 3 or 4 references to PSN and online play right on the packaging.

One example: Sony's Studio Liverpool F1 game, they still sell it in shops with the same packaging and still boasting 22 online multiplayer races eventhough the game servers are long gone and you can't play online.

On another topic I think Sony should change the way PSN operates. Instead of letting the studios set up the game servers, which cost them money and therefore they kill online support after a while, they shuld use a central server for log in purposes and let the consoles make the conections needed to play each game.
That's a much cheaper way to handle things and we get to play online any game we want without depending on the game studios finances and plans.
Even Sony's Studio Liverpool's F1 game can't be played online any more. And I think it's sad.
But also, we get online multiplayer for free so I guess we can't complain, right?

Nah, I think I might miss KZ2 online. For one reason. Well a few...thought I'd give you guys my insight on the PS+ SP demo..
It's the part from the E3 presentation, with an added bit of gameplay introducing the weapon that shoots like 8 missles. Around 45 mins to complete (!) & if this don't get you intrested in buying...nothing will. It showcases everything it does best; Control (My god I'd never of thought the slide mechanic would work so WELL!), graphics (although, judging from the first beta for PS+, GG's best when they're making warn-torn enviroments including metal & stone. Not saying the snow is bad, but trust me; the 2 other levels in the PS+beta blow it away, both graphically & atrtisticly) etc etc. I think I can see how the story will follow, & if I'm correct I'll be happy with it (think BFBC2 campaign, just switch the WWII guy with narville & the japenese weapon with some crazy Helghast one & you can see where I'm going :]). Now for some negatives..
1. Recoil ~ or lack their of..honestly, the reticule hardly expands when you keep the finger on the trigger and needs sorting.
2. Weight ~ I think they should add a bit more..atleast while turning around. Keep it the same for MP though, that was the perfect balance.
3. Melee ~ Overall AWESOME. But...about 20% of the time you will hit them with the butt of your gun, then your open to a melee attack yourself (often fatal).
That's all I can think of. You guys are in for a treat on the 15th though, but just a hint; play on elite. It isnt as hard as KZ2 and I didn't feel as though vetren was challenging.
But I think I'll be going back to KZ2 multiplayer because, out of all the 3 maps in the previous beta, I didn't get the feeling 'I'm right in the middle of a war..'. I loved the chaotic-ness nature of KZ2, & I feel as though this is lost in KZ3 in favour of faster action. I'm happy either way, but I'll be keeping my copy of KZ2 that's for sure. (sorry for epic sized post..found my lost keyboard :P)

i know gg really wants people to focused on kz3 but not everybody is liking kz3 regardless if its in beta.i wish they didn't change so much of mp to fit the complainers who didn't like the kz2 and make it more like a cod game in a way. example of change is not being able to spawn on the squad leader anymore like in kz2. change is good, but when to much change happens it ruins the great experience that was great before.

Gotta say, I'm not digging the new controls as much as the old ones. Some parts are better but overall I prefer KZ2's feel. 3 will grow on me though I am sure. :)

impressed with the change in level design, KZ2 was your typical corridor shooter but this is so much more open!
disappointed by the crappy AI, poor 3D effects and destructibility.
the AI is pretty bland, and moronic!
they sit behind cover popping and shooting at you, so i run up to them and they just sit there behind cover.
hello if someones coming up to you, it might be a good idea to shoot or run away, no?
not just sit there, waiting me to thrust my knife through your eyeballs!
i was hoping the demo would display much better 3D effects than the beta, but there about the same.
you cant even notice the game is in 3D, honestly i had to take my glasses off just to prove to myself i downloaded the right demo!
if it was not for the blurry screen i would of been convinced i downloaded the wrong demo!
whats the point of including 3D effects if there not noticeable?
so many games these days have really cool destructibility, at least destructible cover.
in KZ3 you can grab a WASP, fire off 200 rockets into a piece of cover and its not even scratched!
WTF?
this is far too much of a all show no go game!
all looks, but the substance is still not there!
just like almost all ps3 exclusives, the technological side is amazing, but when it comes to the gameplay department its seriously lagging behind the competition!
