Rumor: MW3 A Prequel, Ghost Will Be Lead Character

If you know Call of Duty, you know Ghost. And because nobody has officially announced the title and details for this year's CoD entry, the rumors continue to fly.

The latest comes courtesy of the UK Official PlayStation Magazine (courtesy of CVG), and it seems Modern Warfare 3 - supposedly in development at Infinity Ward - will feature series favorite Ghost as the lead character. In fact, according to "insider whispers," the game will be a prequel, although we have no concrete information regarding the game's setting and plot. For the record, other rumors in the OPM mag say that Dead Space 3 is "already in production" (which wouldn't surprise anyone; we know it'll be coming at some point), and PS2 games will soon be downloadable on the PSP. The last, which we reported on earlier, is that Konami is working on a Metal Gear Solid HD trilogy for the PS3. But for now, Ghost is once again in the limelight and Infinity Ward may have wanted to embrace that character's popularity amongst the CoD faithful.

Also, prequels are big these days. We're just not sure which CoD title MW3 would be a prequel to...

A Prequel!!?? I want to see what happens after MW2, not before it... I couldn't care less... unless it was about the events before COD4, and they brought back the simplicity of MP from cod 4.. then I'd buy day 1... MW2 didn't feel like a sequel, it felt like a new series, and black ops is following suit... I just want my basic guns, original perks, Pipeline cuz that map was amazing, and 3 default killstreaks.. lol call me nostalgic, but I can't go back to cod4.. the game's pretty much Hacked crazy (MW2 aswell)If they supported the game more with updates (Ya i know, its too old...) it would still be a popular shooter.. Many old FPS' games are still supported by their devs, why can't cod4?

(Sorry 4 the rant, ddnt realize how much I was typing..)

PS2 games on the PSP, awesome! Great news because it can probably lead to PS2 emulation on the PS3. Oh and Dead Space 3, can't wait for that! MGS collection in HD, one of the best series of all time!

Oh, and yeah that news about some dude now leading in MW3, Whoopdeedo.

I have to disagree, I think the story of the MW2 is no less compelling than classic hollywood movies like The Rock. Except, you get to play as the hero.

I liked mw1&w, black ops was alright, but I think I lost the cod mania. I've played better games since black ops and havnt gone back. Not saying I won't. Not too sure how I feel about mw3. I'm playing two worlds 2 right meow. And I'm wait for wkc 2 at the moment.

But one thing about thos article that I really. Like is the ps2 games for psp. Sold mine... but I hope to see ps2 games comming to the psn for ps3. I need my dot.hack fix and my ffX fix. And my kh fix. So hopefully we'll be seeing ps2 games for the ps3's psn soon.

I suppose it would depend on how far back they go, but if they make a prequel, would they have to change the title? Perhaps they might change it to "not-so Modern Warfare", or "Modern-ish Warfare".

Thats the hole point to COD. Keep the control and perspective of the game the same but different story, maps, guns, games and perks. I wish they had kept some perks the same and wish they would get off there asses and patch there screw ups. But I guess money leeds to laziness...

I just want mw3 to have zombies even it is s treyarch thing. A city zombie escape mode run aroudn the whole city esacpign zombies would be awesome!!!!!!!

For the most part Jawknee is a well respected member of this site. He will sometimes make some comments that seem slightly out of line and trollish but that is made up for by all of his other comments.

I absolutely agree with you I can't stand commenters on YouTube all they do is spew races comments and play tough guy over the internet it's annoying they should just disable all comments on YouTube. It would make the world of difference.

PS2 games on the PSP here's hoping Resident Evil: Code Veronica will be on that list of games they're going to start putting on the PSP. Or better yet either GTA: Vice City or San Andreas.

I have a feeling it might be for the NGP, not the PSP.

Can the PSP handle the PS2 emulation process? I know the NGP can, but the PSP? Could be a typo, but I don't know.

It wouldn't have to emulate the PS2, that's a tall fricking order, Sony can just port games down. Unfortunately that might mean most games ported to PSP will have to be first party. Let's hope not though.

I like the idea of a prequel but I'd actually prefer Ghost to tag along instead of being the actual playable character. I think that's what made him so cool in MW2. He was always there with you, helping out. He was a great partner and an all around bad ass. He friggin PWNS Hale and Sev I'll tell you that.

Black Ops will be the last CoD game for me. Just doesn't interest me anymore.

As for an MGS HD Trilogy, HELL YEAH!! D1P for me!! MGS3 was a masterpiece.

I hope it's the Substance and Subsistance versions of the games they put in the trilogy. That free roaming camera in MGS3 Subsistance made the game a whole world of better!

Don't any of you pay attention to this series? Every CoD is a prequel in itself because they all jump around in location, time, and characters. It can still be MW3 and then have some lame flashback sequence where whoever the player of the minute is thinks back to a time while a harp plays and the game can drop you into Ghost's boots for another session in the schizophrenic chopped up storyline.

I hope Uwe Boll makes a CoD movie.

CoD has already recieved the HD treatment! The original Call of Duty, released on Live and PSN.

I got it free with MW2 Prestige. No way was I gonna buy the original CoD for 25 bucks!! (Australian, not US)

i can predict the storey of ghost already:
-ghost is recruited
-ghost shoots people
-storey is left on a cliffhanger so further titles can be made

this reminds me of every other COD game out

nice to see a prequel for a change!
sequels are all the rave these days it would be nice to see prequels or back to basics of series.
id love to see a prequel to enslaved, and a prequel to ME.
as long as that game does not delete my save file of course!

COD:4 had the best story out of all of the cod games... i just love all of the places that you go in the story, the missions are unique and the characters are by far the best... they just did everything right in COD:4 which is the reason why i still play it like 3 or 4 years later!

Ghost?

Didn't all he do in the last two modern warfare games just wander around shooting people wearing a pretty skull mask?

Not exactly an Oscar winning premise to a story.

Also zombies in call of duty...

If all you want is zombies and big guns then aren't you really admitting that you hate any enemy with an ounce of AI or dexterity and are really just wanting to shoot targets at the fairground!

It really is the race to the bottom with Call of Duty.

Sorry, why let thinking, skill and tactics get in the way of a good FPS...

Snap on target, shambling spawning zombies, infinite ammo...
