PSXE Video: Killzone 3 Commentary
You've seen the review; now it's time to check out our first ever video commentary.
The timing was great. Killzone 3 arrives at just about the time we're branching out in 2011 and so, it earns the honor of becoming the first game we address on our PSXEOfficial YouTube Channel. We've got 13 minutes of high-definition footage complete with some discussion between my brother and I - who is responsible for doing all the taping and footage for this stuff - and I think it came out quite well.
There are no story spoilers in this video, and we will always keep such things out of our video commentaries. And once again, for the record, these aren't "video reviews," per se; our text reviews will always take priority, and we will reserve the video commentary for the biggest titles. The next game on the list is probably Dragon Age II and maybe, just maybe, an unboxing of the Xperia Play...
We're new to this so feel free to offer any feedback and suggestions. If there are other things you want to see, let us know. Also, I will remind you that this isn't the whole surprise...indeed, something much bigger in terms of audience potential is on the way. Stay tuned.

Second, I liked the dual commentary, it always adds something to videos like this.
Third, Where'd you get the intro music? I thought I recognized it from like an old Gran Turismo game or something....but it sounds a little porno-ish, so i'm hoping I don't recognize it from there ;)
Anyway, How long do we have to wait for this "something much bigger in terms of audience potential"?? We're dying here!
Keep up the awesome work.

Nice commentary. I also liked the fact that I got to see some more gameplay that I've only seen bits of before
Usually don't like to look up gameplay footage for games. But that was a welcome look. I'm going to try to get it from work tonight :)

To the Dutkas: Great work on the video and everything. I really can't think of much else to ask for except maybe some sort of epic introduction at the beginning. I love the jingle too.
It just feels good to be a member in good standing at this site. I feel bad for the people who don't get it and opt to get booted out for foolishness. Keep up the good work, it's great to be a part of this place and if I'm ever needed or wanted to contribute again you know where to find me :)

From a control design standpoint, the cover button really shouldn't be shared with the crouch.
Having a cover system is nice, and it is more fleshed out and significant in KZ3.
If a person chooses to work with the mechanic, I do, it really comes natural before long. Just like the slide-to-cover mechanic.

Amazing how smooth it was when you were driving the saw, no lag, no hitching, smooth like butter. Was really impressive with all that was going on.
Was glad there were 2 of you, video review with only one person talking is always a little awkward, this felt conversational and made you feel like you were just hanging with your friends discussing KZ3. Good stuff, keep it up.

I enjoyed the casual commentary and having three parts to it was a nice touch. Not too much, not too little. There weren't any awkward pauses and you didn't sound inexperienced throughout.
I figured maybe you were a bit nervous at the beginning but throughout you came around and sounded real comfortable. Right on.
I really don't like the music you play at the beginning and end of your videos though. I don't get it. It reminds me of GT5 tackiness jazz that a lot of people thought was the wrong move to make for its soundtrack.
Still, keep up the great work, the editing and audio were great and you guys did a great job. *high five*

I can see lots of people not knowing the difference, in the future... lol. My guess? 60-80% of your video commentaries will have someone complaining that you didn't say enough in the "review". (Thinking the commentary is a review, I mean)

Ben's bro: "This is an awesome game, by the way."
Ben: "Yeah, it's definitely creme of the crop. There's really nothing you can say against it"
If there's a way of doing a voice over on playback footage (which you can manually ff/pause/rw) through the editing software, that may free you up if you can't find someone to assist in the future. But I think the cross-banter really works.

This video reminds me of moments where I play a game infront of someone who's already played it and they just comment on everything and vice versa. It's annoying that they do it and it's annoying that I do it...that is what this video reminds me of...lol
Good video and thanks for doing this...PSX has more character now. Now it's time for an official website makeover.

I only have a handgun-like accessory and I really don't think it would work as well. Besides, KZ3 is clearly designed for that official rifle attachment for Move. I have heard it works quite well, for what it's worth.

The game runs at 720p. CHECK (higher than the average game)
The game uses CELL driven anti-aliasing: CHECK (some times this form of AA can produce crawling edges on long thin lines)
So what's causing the grainy?
When I sit closer to the TV, like 3-4' away (abnormally close) I can definitely see aliased edges (like most games), though, from normal distance (8-10' @ 40") it looks near flawless. With a clearer cleaner picture than KZ2. The only other thing I can think of is TV setting differences. Some TV's, especially LEDS, have higher than normal brightness levels. This alone could be producing artifacts and edges much more vividly than the norm.
ALso, the shiny walls in the cave/jungle/stealth level look to be accurately representing water condensation like they should in a cave-like area with higher than normal atmospheric humidity (look at the volumetric fog). Gears has a number of environments like this.
Anyway, I'll get the full game tomorrow when I can see it in it's finished, and entire state. I'm a tech-head with these types of games and I'm ready to be impressed. The demo was.

was so cool, there we walk in and the curtain drops to a full sized helghast soldier!
got to play a little of the SP in a FREAKING FREEZER!
then onto the MP tournament, then got to try out more of the SP with the move and riffle attachment.
works really well, but its so hard to get use to.
i dont like it at all just makes the game feel like a kids game.
i was disappointed to see the burst switch does not work either.
not bad though, got some really cool dog tags, a poster and a free copy of the game.
