Atlus Prepping Patch To Ease Catherine's Difficulty

Catherine is quite unique, but after sampling the playable demo, many have complained about the crazy difficulty.

At first, Atlus tried to pacify the complainers by saying that if you could complete the demo, you'd probably be able to finish the game. However, the whining continued and it has finally reached a point where the developers can't ignore it any longer- according to game director Katsura Hashino, while the team wanted to make the player "feel the thrill of Vincent's nightmares," the feedback means the game is "simply too difficult." Therefore, they're currently working on a patch that will address this issue, even if we don't have a release date for the update just yet. We don't have any problem with a big challenge but sometimes, you can just go too far...and if the complaints are legitimate, the difficulty was just way too high. Some claimed they couldn't even finish the demo on Easy, which is indeed a problem. And besides, Atlus is very fan-friendly; they love their followers.

We'd still like to know if they plan to bring Catherine to North America and Europe. If they do, we'll be one of the first to give it a try.

Oddly enough, i didnt find Demon's Souls to be too difficult. It really teaches you patience, and most of the times i died was because i ran in without preparing for the fight.

Lot of strategy to Demon's Souls, you can't always beat 'em with sword and shield.

After you get a Theifs Ring, Flamlurker is really easy. He isnt the most attentive boss around.

I love a great challenge though. Games nowadays are too hand holding with tutorials last for quite a bit into the game. FFXIII being the worst yet. This is disappointing. Sounded like lots of games past.

A difficult challenge is kinda different from a timed puzzle in my mind.

Demo was easy, some people just don't want to have some challenge in their games.

I'm on the 6th night. Man oh man was it a pain to get there. I love the challenge that comes with the game, but I am most sure that any of you were to try some of those Boss rounds you would be clamoring for a patch as well. I understand the nightmare mechanic, but I think they went a little to far with how brutal the game can be. I know easy mode gives you the ability to under your last moves, but on Normal (which I am playing) and above, you don't get this option and one mistake will cost you the entire round you are on. Literally. I can't even count how many times I've seen the game over screen. However, in the end it's super rewarding to beat the puzzles. You feel a great relief afterward, only to be thrown back into the nightmare about 20 minutes after completing the last.

How was the demo difficult? That was really easy to me, who is having trouble with going up a wall? It's a wonderful, unique game and it does get pretty insane, but hard? Come on, guys, this generation of gaming has really softened everyone up, lol.

Really Catherine? You're "easier" now? I'm so ashamed.

You should never let a guy make you easy.

Actually I didnt find the game that difficult. Granted, I only played normal so far, but I still think the game is fun. Sure, it's very frustrating but that's part of the fun I guess. Just to make sure you don't break anything because of it :P

Well I thought the point of difficulty settings was so that people could choose how much of a challenge they wanted. If beating it on easy was too hard, then what was the game like on hard? Scary.

Maybe they should just tone down easy a little, normal a pinch, and leave hard alone, for the masochists.

Easy was too difficult for some? Yowser. I suppose, if you must Atlus. Just, make sure you bring it over.
Peace.

P.S. World, in regards to you asking what your trademark is: The comedy. Not that you need it, you're one of the names synonymous with PSXE for me.

I'll just say that no one will really know unless you've played the actual game just how challenging this game can really be. In order for this game to sell to more casual players, they will want to implement that patch. You may never know since it'll probably be implemented when or if it gets released stateside.

You guys are aware that Atlus did not develop Demon Souls correct? That was From Software that did that. Atlus just published the game. Catherine is developed in-house by Atlus' Persona Team. Two completely different developers. Trust me when I say with the way the puzzles/levels are in Catherine, Demon Souls is a walk in the park.

Demon's Souls was about timing and enemy attack patterns. The difficulty of Catherine is far, far different.

It's safe to assume you own the game as well? While Demons Souls is a completely different style of game from a totally different team, that doesn't make Catherine any less difficult. They are both rewarding in different ways, however, when was the last time a puzzle game was a hit seller?

i have to say after playing the demo, i was not so interested in solving this kinda puzzle for the game, i am more into the story side or art side of the game. i wish i can just not play the puzzle, and just know the story, or the game should not be like solving puzzle by jumping the blocks. i was turned off by that in fact. sad move on that, with great art and story tho

I can't stand that the fans on the inernet can get a game neutered. So it's too difficult maybe, just maybe your not as good of a gamer as you thought you were(this is aimed at no one in particular). I am sick of seeing games dumbed down for the masses, Screw Them! As I have said before just put in a Casual Mode and a Hardcore Mode it is seriously that simple. I'm oldschool and played in the days where beating a game was practically impossible and I miss those days. We didn't have the internet to use as a walkthrough nor did the games have a difficulty setting(for the most part, some did) and yet somehow here we are in a world where games stll exist.

Developers need to stop catering to the internet especially being that half if not more of the people that post are not good at games in the first place they just like to be whiners.
