Epic's CliffyB Loves Him Some Killzone
You know, most all developers are gamers themselves. And real gamers put their entertainment first.
Just as we've often proclaimed our appreciation for the fantastic Gears of War franchise - heck, I've played both and the third will be mine on day one - Epic's Cliff Bleszinski also loves to play the best titles available...even if they're not on his platform of choice. Epic Games is well known for Gears and CliffyB hasn't done much on the PlayStation side of things, but so what? He recently Tweeted that he just picked up his copy of Killzone 3:
"And yes, I support our products but more importantly I support GAMES. Got my #Killzone!"
And there's a link to him holding his copy. Remember, Bleszinski and Company's shooter, Bulletstorm, also hit store shelves on February 22, so this guy could very easily have ignored KZ3 and promoted his own product. But hey, we already told you Guerrilla's game was pretty great, and a whole lot of other sources have said the same thing. And by the way, here's Guerrilla's response to CliffyB's Tweet:
"@therealcliffyb Have fun playing #Killzone3!"

Yeah, I got it too and played about 4 levels or so. (I'm in the trench part with the flame thrower dudes)
It's good stuff. I wanna do a user-review, i think.
I will say FPS games this gen are really beginning to feel overly played out to me. Most of the couple hours I spent were about as great as I could imagine the linear genre being able to achieve within their current design. And for as superbly done as it all is, I can't help but feel almost... bored by it? Maybe bored is the wrong word. More like, a road that feels very well trodden to me over the last few years.
Yeah, I know, I suck.
It's great, though. It really is just me. It's 9 caliber no doubt.

Getting my copy tomorrow, and can't wait. I stopped playing CoD when all my friends and I got bored, now we're just waiting for something better to come along. I'm hoping Killzone 3 scratches that itch.

What I mean, for example, is that I've played a lot TPS's, possibly more than the number of FPS's I've played...Uncharted 1 & 2, Gears 1 & 2, Deadspace 1 & 2 (well, I'm at the very end of 2 atm), inFamous, GTA4 and DLC, RDR, Vanquish, ME2...yet, I'm no less psyched about Uncharted 3 and inFamous 2.
Am I just as excited with what the FPS genre may have in store, even with KZ3, Resistance 3, Rage, and HL3/HL2:Ep2? Not quite sure.
Since I share almost identical gaming inclinations and interests as yourself, the fact that even the first 4 chapters aren't mindblowing to you concerns me, so I'll be eager to learn about your impressions of more of the game, and even the MP.
But, I am really interested to see for myself how GG raises the bar further with their AAA sequel, which is why I made sure to place my Amazon preorder yesterday (the $20 credit didn't hurt, either), and I'll be revisiting KZ2 this week while I wait for my order, so as to keenly notice the improvements

Master Shams, while thinking about it some more, my KZ3/FPS sentiments has more to do with it really feeling like a high quality CoD game. THat is, the whole way the combat and action (generally) plays out is extremely remincesant of a CoD. It's a ultra high intensity fire fight that relies heavily on taking shots at dudes from cover. My other fav FPS games don't model themselves in play quite like that. Where the combat can, or does, progress in many different ways. They're usually less intense and chaotic because of it, but I like that. That's more my type.
I have progressed a bit farther. I'm deep in the winter/snow level. Very awesome, better than the demo. I really like how the levels in this game ,compared to a CoD or KZ2, have opened up somewhat. A few levels have presented some decent tactical options in play with larger maps.
But something I can't say enough. This game is GORGEOUS.
High quality PS3 exclusives are a full point higher in the technical graphics end than any other games. A multi-plat just doesn't compare. With the exceptions of some crawling aliased edges that sometimes crop up more than I'd like, it's a graphics powerhouse. It also deals with weather/environmental effects more intensely than I've seen anywhere else (the snow level)
In fact, I think this is the first FPS I played where sometimes the graphics feel TOO DETAILED.
Sometimes I have a hard time spotting a Helghast amongst all of the ultra detailed backdrops with crazy lighting effects happening in every which way. It's pretty mind blowing at times. It's like the game needs to paint the enemies bright red or something. As great as games can look,if they have a purpose of being a "game," we still need to be sure they're designed like games, that is, being able to clearly see our objectives.

Sorry people Gears of War holds no love from me, and bulletstorm's demo was better than I expected, but that only brought it up to "I'd play it for free" as opposed to "you'd have to pay me to play it."

So in their tweet, GG responded in kind: "Have fun playing #Killzone3!" Notice the lack of reciprocation. Can't say I blame them.

But your right about KZ3. Just wow! Honestly already the best shooter I've played. I've played a lot and so far it's done everything right. Tons of action and the framerate never hiccups. Lots of shooting, yet mixes it up with vehicles. Yes I'm barely 2 hours into the game and controlled two different vehicles/weaponry! The pacing is fantastic also some of the best! But before I say more I should finish the game!

1. Port the series over to the PS3. It would likely net you a few more sales, and more love from the PS3 audience, or
2. Pull a Jaffe and give me a free one. Please?
In all seriousness, I respect this. Here is a guy that is not only acknowledging, but praising, his direct competition. It's an admirable trait. But on hearing that Bulletstorm can be beaten in under six hours, I was put off in a big way. Would any PSXErs be able to give me a rough estimate on the length of KZ3?
Peace.

Don't be too down. PS3 is not only performing the best from a technological and production standpoint, but it has the most variety, and will soon overtake the 360 in worldwide sales. Outside the US, it's already beaten it.
Either that or you're a tactful non-abrasive troll. ;) But I won't hurl accusations yet.
Disclaimer: That was a joke at the end...

I dunno... either it's an unfair comparison, or a veeeerrrry inaccurate one. I say, either stick to one generation or include all of them.

And since Mass Effect has jumped over to the PS3 too now, only Halo & Gears of Wars series are left as exclusive AAA games. And I can't see Alan Wake, who sold only a piddly amount even as good as it is, becoming a franchise game(but I could be wrong).
Anyway, the PS3 has so many exclusive AAA games to choose from, that it's often hard to pick & choose between 2/3 games out around the same time, unless that gamer is Dig Daddy Warbucks.
But I think that eventually, most Sony's gamers do go ahead & pick up almost all of the cream of the crop games that the PS3 has to offer.

On another note: Dragon Age Call to arms is at the 300 thousands at the moment. We should be able to make 1 million in time :D
