inFamous 2: Create Missions, Public Beta In April

You know about inFamous 2. You've heard of Sony's "Play, Create, Share" concept.

...bet you didn't know those two were connected, though. While games like LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers obviously feature the "Play, Create, Share" philosophy, it seems that idea is stretching to other genres and games. Included on that expanding list is Sucker Punch's hotly anticipated sequel; the new feature for inFamous 2 was just revealed at this year's GDC. With the creation tool, players will be able to create most any sort of mission, and we'll even have access to many of the characters, creatures and props the designers had. Finally, we learn there will be a "limited" public beta in April; if you want to participate, check the game's official website on March 14. Don't know about you, but I'd leap at any chance to play this game ahead of time.

The question now is, how many other games will experience the imagination and creativity of "Play, Create, Share?"

i was reading about this earlier on the psblog i was hoping you would write about this. i cant wait to play this game. the first infamous was bad ass but this one will blow away most other games out there. oh to get my hands on this early would be soooo cool.

Uncharted 3 would be bad ass with some make your own level stuff. ratchet and clank and mgs too.

Why? The same people who are getting inFamous 2 are likely to get Uncharted 3 with or without this kind of thing.

Its pretty obvious Uncharted will outsell Infamous twice as much, if not more but look @ who's attempting more innovation. Uncharted has infamous trumped on production values & fanbase but honestly I'm a little more excited for infamous. Infamous' Single player will definitely be longer & this new feature is icing on the cake.

I'm definitely getting this! Very excited over the Hero Edition as well.

It's good that Sucker Punch also decided not to announce this feature of the Infamous 2 until we are already aware of the story in this installment. Story is definitely the focus here. I'm sure they would be getting several negative feedback if they announced this way too early. Stuff like they're losing sight of what made the first game great.

Can't wait for July!

Wow that’s cool that odd survey Sony did last year I had this question;
What video game innovations other than better graphic are you looking forward in the next 15 years?
My answer was to bring user created content to games like Uncharted and other large scale games.
I know they did not put this in do to the survey but it is funny.

That is simply too awesome. Seriously, I get the feeling that it'll be glitchy, like the first, but also like the first, it'll be my personal GOTY. I really like this idea of P,C,S. LBP, Modnation, GT5, now inFamous and SOCOM. What's next? Resistance? Twisted Metal? Starhawk? MAG? How far can this be taken?
Peace.

As much as I hate too many logos on game covers I think this Play, Create, Share should be made clear on PS games. People need to know that they have this option.

Once again, "Only on Playstation."

Agree with this comment 4 up, 0 down Disagree with this comment

Lawless SXE

How would you go about defining it though. LBP and Modnation Racers have it as a clear focus. The whole point of the games is the Play, Create, Share ideal. The other games have elements of it, such as the limited course creation of GT5 and the creatable challenge mode on show here, but not the full extent as you can't create your own adversaries or environments, only what the game provides, which instantly forms a differentiation. On the other hand, the sheer number of possibilities far outweighs what was seen in the original LBP at least. Not only platforming, but also point-to-point races and combat missions, among other objectives.

But as I mentioned, the focus of iF2 still seems to be the single player segment, not this newly announced feature, no matter how robust it is. This simple fact alone would make me hesitant to label it as a Play, Create, Share game. By that definition, Dante's Inferno would, to an extent, be classified as one, would it not?
Peace.

i found the creation in gt5 to be very limmitted. you couldn't create your own tracks. gt5 on xbox is funny. i went into wal mart the other day to buy kz3, and said i wanted kz3. ofcourse he asked for which system. i said it's only for the ps3. he said he'd never heard of it, and he only does xbox. live is so much better, he said. i just wanted to smack him.

i was on the phone with ea becuase i was having trouble with that stupid cerebus code for me2, and ea tried to blame the problem on psn when actualy the cerebus network was down. anyways, while i was chit chatting, i got told i should get it for xbox and it'll be a lot better on xbox live. ms gets all the dlc packs first, and live has cross game chat, he said.

it's almost like these xbox loving biscuits are everywhere. they all spout the same crap like they have been brainwashed.

the good news is when i called ea back and complained of their ms propaganda spouting biscuit, they gave me $20 code for an ea product on psn. not many ea products at $20, but it does help take the sting out of my xbot encounter.

This came out of left field. Freaking awesome! Already pre-ordered but now the anticipation level went thru the roof. I wondered what "secret" SP was going to announce at GDC. I often thought as I played LBP, What if this could be done with a game that wasn't so cutesy? And here it is.

Do you guys think this is some kind of deterrent to prevent COD challenge lobby type of situations?

My only complaint about inFamous was the fact that once you maxed your powers, there was hardly anyone left to own. For inFamous2, I'd hoped for varying difficulty settings, or maybe just one "insanely difficult" setting which unlocked when you maxed out.

I'd still like the above, but this could be even better. If you could play & rate other people's levels and perhaps have your time recorded it would be excellent.

All this stuff SP's putting into Infamous 2 is probably the most new things I've recently seen a dev put into a sequel. Seriously, I can't believe the amount of new stuff that'll be in this game, and it still sounds incredibly similar to the last one.
