Johansson And Mendes Possible For Uncharted Movie?

You can't have an action movie without a prominent female role. And Uncharted has had two thus far.

Many have speculated on who director David O. Russell might get to play either Elena or Chloe, and the first bit of evidence is interesting: it seems two hot actresses might be in line for a role in the film: Scarlett Johannson and Eva Mendes. During the 83rd Academy Awards this past weekend, Russell told MTV that he's "excited to make Uncharted a really dope crime family in the world of antiquities and art."

After being vague about De Niro and Pesci (also rumored to be involved with the project), leading man Mark Wahlberg said Russell had both Johansson and Mendes in mind for the female lead. Wahlberg has worked with Mendes in both "We Own the Night" and "The Other Guys." As for Johansson, she might make for a good Elena although admittedly, the curvaceous blond's sizzling sex appeal may sort of dim the sarcastic cuteness of the Elena we all know.

As for Mendes, we have no idea. Chloe...? Well, not quite. But maybe Russell just doesn't care about either of the female leads in the games, and he'll get his own.

I think the fact that Russell used the word 'dope' to describe Drake's family is the bigger story. Is that a hint that the story will take place in 1995, the same time period his slang is from?

Well, what I find more disturbing than the 'dope' comment is the rest of that comment he made about a "crime family" in the world of antiquities. I don't know what game or source material he's been looking at, but it's clearly not the source material for Uncharted.

Mendes is actually quite good. Not the greatest actor, but certainly still entertaining.

Johannson however, not so much. Great eye candy, for sure, but her personality just can't reach anything near the cute but quirky and loveable charm of Elena Fisher.

Who says the movie will be Drake's Fortune or Among Thieves? It might be events prior to DF or even earlier and Johannsen and Mendes will be entirely new characters.

Only thing this movie has in common with the games is the title, character names and ancient tomb exploration. All details are out the window.

This movie will stand on its own from the games, which is better than trying to stick to the games if you think about it.

Scarlett Johansson's a good choice for Elena, but I'd prefer to see Laura Harris in the role. The only barrier to that: like Fillion, she's no superstar. I suppose if he wants big name casting, his choices are limited.

But what is he talking about making Uncharted a dope crime family? How many times have people said that UC isn't about a family, but an alliance of friends? Better yet, why did he have to call them 'dope'? And finally, does anyone else seem to think that he's saying that Uncharted is the family name?

Oh, if only the casting was the biggest issue we had to have with this film. I'm getting a headache thinking about Russel.

I think Cameron Diaz would be a great choice for the role of Elena. She's quirky, has a great up-beat personality and is a popular actress.

Sure, she's not the Elena we all want to see in our own perfect version of the film, but she's the best choice considering star power, wouldn't you agree?

this movie is probably going to suck. hopefully if these chicks are in this movie they get as close to naked as possible. i just dont like where this is going and dont see this movie working out like it should. actually there shouldnt even be a movie. you want to know what uncharted is, go play the damn games.

Whether you find them to be uber hot or not, eye candy won't save this film and it's going to need a lot of saving when the these dope homey drug deala's get down in the hood of da wildaness.

I really hope this guy is just trying to act like he's clueless so we'll all be pleasantly surprised when he makes an excellent film, but I'm not holding my breath.

Star power doesn't always equal a high quality or high grossing film.

Look at Ocean's Thirteen compared to Lord of the Rings!! Ocean's films had the biggest star lineup, and they did well, but LOTR had only 3 or 4 well known actors and grossed about 20 times more than Ocean. And many considered it higher quality story-telling with perfect acting to match!!

Also, look at films like Watchmen or District 9. Not one recognisable actor, but they are two of my favourite films from the last 2 years.

Johansson is smokin, but she's no Elena. Mendes is smokin, but she's too old. Then again Wahlberg is too old too so maybe it won't matter.

Russel: There is no crime family, stop saying that as if people are going to agree with you that it's a cool idea.

I wanted Uncharted to become a good movie but now I am becoming vindictive and I hope it sucks and flops and kills Russel's career so that it can be rebooted properly later on.

Yeah tried to make sense of the crime family thing on the last Uncharted movie post and was only lying to myself. lol. This guy either needs to reexamine the contents of the game and make the appropriate changes, or drop the FOCKIN idea RIGHT NOW! Fillion didn't get the role, cow dung! Scarlett Jo... and Eva Mendes albeit hot stuff, it's not gonna work. They should've got that blond chick from dodgeball...christine taylor is her name. She would make the perfect elena! As for chloe, Claudia Black would've been just fine. Now that's how you cast a movie Russel. But don't worry about me, I'm sure your movie will be a sucksess!

Yeah, I'm still wondering how this guys said he played the games and he somehow saw that Drake had a family.....and they were a crime family....a dope crime family...

Unless he has a good screenwriter, this movie WILL suck, simply because it wont be true to the Uncharted franchise. They might make a decent Hollywood movie (with these actors they better) But I think no matter what, we might be upset with the end result.

I never would have said it before, but after having seen the last season of Dexter, I would almost suggest Julia Stiles as Chloe. Something about here voice and mannerisms that reminds me of some of Elena's persona...but maybe that's just me.

As for a Chloe? Hmm tough call, you need someone who can play the sexy b*tch..lol..So many to chose from...

First, Fillion doesn't get the role.

Then, Johansson and Mendes are considered for the lead female parts.

THEN, O'Russel hints it's about a crime family in the archeological business!!!

I'm sorry, but O'Russel has now lost the fans on this one. Now, if the movie itself sucks, there will be no one to fall back on to support it. At least Doom had fans on the game and that one awesome first-person shooter scene to keep it alive after so long.
