Mortal Kombat Demo Hits PSN First

It's a reboot and a rebirth, and the fans are hoping it's everything they expect it to be.

Mortal Kombat will launch on April 21 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but developer NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment wants to give you an early peek at the action...and they're giving the nod to PS3 owners. It was announced today that a playable MK demo will be available exclusively to PlayStation Plus members on March 8; everyone else will be able to snag it a week later on the PSN. The demo will come to Xbox Live "later." This little taste will give you access to the standard arcade ladder for one or two players, and let you try out Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage and Mileena in either the Living Forest or The Pit. That ought to be plenty; we all know how long it can take to get used to our selected fighter, especially if we're playing a game we've sorta forgotten over the years.

Yeah, the game is banned in Australia but then again, nobody is surprised to see that. The next GTA probably won't make it there, either.

Can't wait to pick up the new MK, but I think should make another Shaolin Monks as they're next MK project after this one.

And the PS+ love continues. I will definitely be downloading this demo on the 8th. I don't know about buying the game, as fighters in general aren't really my thing any more, but you never know. This reboot may be just the thing to get me back into them.

I can't wait for this demo or the game. Glad I invested in Plus. I'm a diehard MK fan. This installment will bring back the old school greatness with new school techniques.

but don't you think the demo would've just been free for everyone from the beginning if it WASN'T for the existence of PSN Plus? The demo content is ready. Sony is just trying to create the illusion that you're getting something for your membership expense. I'm fine with having a discount service like PSN+ but I think trying to monetize the value of demos is something of a cheap jab at gamer's pocket books for something that's supposed to be used as a selling sample of the final product.

Besides Metal Gear Solid, Mortal Kombat is the only other franchise that I've religiously dedicated my gaming years towards. At first I was a little worried about this entry as it's returning to its 2D roots and I've thoroughly enjoyed the last few 3D entries, but after seeing footage, I'm quite certain this will be as incredible as ever. I can't wait for my Kollector's Edition to arrive and I may even pick up the Tournament Edition, too (even though I suck at using joysticks).

Hey, everyone... list your fav Mortal Kombats in order of favourite to least favourite! ;)

1. Mortal Kombat: Deception
2. Mortal Kombat II
3. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
4. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
5. Mortal Kombat Trilogy
6. Mortal Kombat 3
7. Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe
8. Mortal Kombat
9. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
10. Mortal Kombat 4
11. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
12. Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
13. Mortal Kombat: Special Forces

I also own Mortal Kombat Gold for the Dreamcast and Mortal Kombat: Unchained for the PSP.

Yeah... can you tell I'm psyched? :P

Why is shaolin monks at the bottom?
Sure the versus mode was watered down but it was what every Konquest mode was struggling to be, plus co-op.

This old MK fan is pumped. Not a plus member, but I can wait the extra week.

I love that the franchise is going back to it's roots. Back to that old winning formula. ROUND 2 ... FIGHT!

And I'm still having visions of my first Scorpion VS Kratos match... I seldom use this word, due to it's rampant overuse, but it shall be EPIC.

"It's a reboot and a rebirth"

I laugh at this and why? based on the trailers I've seen the game is nothing but more of the same.

With that mind it come me to that Boon is calling this a reboot in an effort to drum up interest for a franchise that have lost credibility in the fight game community. But seriously though, MK is one piece of **** that should be put to rest.

This game is banned in my country, unless the current appeal get's the green light. It won't hurt Australian gamers as we can still import it for much cheaper overseas than the inflated prices we have here already, but it will hurt our retailers & our economy if our government doesn't grow balls & release the R18+ rating soon.

Advice to Aus gamers wanting this. Import all the way, don't support a government that doesn't support you & your rights as an adult.

If you're worried about customs seizing your game then get in contact with the seller prior to shipping & ask them to place the MK disc sealed in a different game cover. Works for me every time.

Looking forward to this, MK back to it's brutal best.

what you talking about everyones surprised to see that!
GOW3 is ok for kids to play but MK is not?
ooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk............

nice to see the demo releasing a good month before the game though!
wish more developers would do this, instead of the 1-2 weeks BS.
crysis 2 for example, demo starts 15th of march and 8 days later the game comes out.
