THQ Expects Homefront To "Compete With The Very Best"

Competition in the first-person shooter category is stiff and if you can't deliver the goods, you're in trouble.

But THQ is confident in Kaos Studios' Homefront, scheduled to release on March 18. The game has now gone gold, and THQ core games boss Danny Bilson took the opportunity to promote the upcoming game's quality. In fact, Bilson went on record saying that Homefront could be huge for the publisher:

"Homefront is set to become one of THQ's most successful original IP launches. The team at Kaos have spent three years building an FPS that competes with the very best, offering a thrilling and original single player experience and hundreds of hours of multiplayer."

Featuring "hundreds of dedicated servers" worldwide, THQ director of infrastructure Drew Como added that his team understands the importance of dedicated servers. Both the console and PC versions will get them, and it allows the game to boast 32 players online "on large maps with infantry, vehicles and drones."

Launching one week before Crytek's Crysis 2, Homefront might be primed to steal a little FPS thunder. Some remain skeptical but others say that what we've seen thus far is mighty impressive...

Homefront, otherwise known as Red Dawn… just swap out the Russians and Cubans for Koreans and you’re set.

I don't know about this game, I'll probably give it a whirl latter this year for the singleplayer campaign, but my fps multiplayer time will only be dedicated to BF:BC2 and BF3 this year.

I'd like to try the multiplayer first to see if I enjoy it before I think of purchasing it... But right now, i'm all about Killzone 3

From what I saw it looked like every other FPS out there, which is to be expected. So for me it really comes down to a good single player story with diverse missions, and the US being invaded presents a good foundation for a compelling story so let's hope they use it.

EDIT: It's being written by John Milius who co-wrote Apocalypse Now, so there should be a pretty good story

Milius also wrote and directed Red Dawn, which was about an invasion of the U.S. by Russian and Cuban troops. Sound familiar.

I know Xbots are excited for yet another shooter. I know one Twitter yayhoo who plays nothing but shooters on Xbox 360 and thinks that makes him a "gamer".

I for the life of me can't understand how people never tire of shooter after shooter after shooter. You need some variety and not just via PSN/XBLA download.

Really? Not for the life of you? I think it's obvious, competition of the human kind. I for one think CoD and KZ3 are very different FPS entries with very nice and varied MP. Homefront will hopefully add something new but if it doesn't I probably will still give it a shot if the game has good reviews. I am not buying a game for MP if the game is a 6 out 10 from PSX.

In what appears to be the year of the fps, Homefront looks like it might just be the best one.

Judging from the gameplay footage, the game looks terrible generic

I'm buying this game for two reasons.
1. So that if it is successful COD will have more competition and therefore have to start doing something better.
2. I really think it looks pretty good.

I kinda lost interest when I heard that there was no compensation for the control scheme. What I mean is that it plays like CoD, even though your character is supposed to have never picked up a gun before. The premise is riveting though.
Peace.

I wonder how THQ measure success in terms of sales, this given the fact games these days need to sell well above the 2 million line to technically be commercially successful in terms rouperation of development and profit.

I'm not a big fps fan, and I haven't looked into this much, but I will say that it's story seems more interesting to me than a lot of other shooters.

That E3 demo they showed last year didn't appeal to me at all; it looked incredibly generic IMO. After all the footage they've shown and all the new details they've given out about it (especially all the info about the story), though, they've actually convinced me to give the game a whirl. Hopefully it'll be as good as they say it is.

Looks like quite the rush, that trailer was pretty cool Crusader, but like any man in a financial crisis I'll reserv my action for some reviews. Turned in all my COD games last month and haven't been gettin the online fix I want. Been playin Uncharted but all the good players stopped playin. LOL

Just an FYI.....

If you pre-order Homefront from OnLive, they'll give you their "OnLive gaming system" for free($99.99 value).
You just have to pay tax & shipping.

You'll also get a "full play=pass to the game "Metro 2033" for free too.

Check it out right here....

the best part about this game is that you cannot even rent it and test the online multiplayer without the 10 dollar fee having to be paid... good luck with that.....

i will hold off on this. I pre ordered crysis 2 instead. its MP looks really different to me. more so than just vehicles. I like the upgrade system, the fact they said about 60 hours to level to top rank, and if nothing else, you can kick effing cars at people to kill them. that makes me say that the above poster _____________ i disagree with. I suppose crysis may not be considered a "military fps" but whoever thinks it is even close to a military shooter would prolly agree, thats pretty damn unique imo.
