White Knight Chronicles 2 Confirmed For May Release?

Okay, now we're starting to get a little antsy, 'cuz this is the closest we've come to an official release date.

We're one of the few sources that really seemed to like the first one, and now, we're all excited for the sequel...problem is, Level-5 hasn't yet provided North American and European gamers with a launch date for White Knight Chronicles 2. But the game just popped up at the European PlayStation Blog; WKC2 seems to be confirmed for European regions, and the White Knight Chronicles: Origins is headed to the PSP. On top of which, if you check the Comments below, you'll see that SCEE European Product Manager Ross Alexander replied to one poster with the following:

"Both games will be released in May this year so not long to wait.

We’ll confirm an exact release date at a later stage."

So Europe gets the sequel in May, which means we might see it that month, too. White Knight Chronicles 2 launched last year in Japan on July 8, so perhaps a 10 month delay for the localization process is just about right. We'd be very surprised if the American and European launch dates were very different, so we'd like to consider this little piece of information as a pseudo-confirmation. Can we be excited now?

That seems quick. I saw the first WK:C used at Blockbuster for $15. While I'm somewhat compelled by it I hear it's something of a "grind style" jRPG. I don't think I'm really into long winded dozens upon dozens of hours bouts of grinding (even FF12 wore on me a bit). But maybe that's just a myth. Anyway, right now my jRPG fix is being totally filled with Lost Odyssey.

It has significantly less grinding than old school jrpgs, you can beat the game by just following the story for the most part. The online requires all the grinding to get anywhere in.

First one was good. It does have its grinding moments but what JRPG doesn't. Some more than others. I wonder if there will be new unlockable content ala the Home Armor. I will aquire this the same way as I did the first. In due time. Too many exclusives calling to me. Not to mention a considerable backlog.

Seems like the EU Blog is 1 upping the US Blog on news today. WKC2 and they updated Dues Ex for August 23rd first too. I'm still bothered that I am off today and the PSN is down for 12 hours.

Gosh, i hope they dumb down the guild rank grinding and finding their 100's just shy under a maybe a 1000 items needed to upgrade your armor and weapons.

For you people who are relly into this game, you should give dc universe a try. Just saying.

The grinding problem has to be solved. They need to up the rewards for quests, and drop the requirements for the various trophies to make Platinuming the game possible in under a year...LOL!

Are these issues going to be revised, not only for WKC 2, but also for the upgraded version of the first game?

I contemplating whether I should even attempt platinuming the original version of White Knight Chronicles. I'm definitely getting WKC 2. Just concerned on whether I'm going to have 2 trophy sets for WKC 1. One for the original and one for the upgraded version.

I love the game, but platinuming it in a year would require you to play minimum of 8 hours a day.

Talk about the hardest plat ever, you should get 10 plats for getting every trophy on wkc.

You'll still be able to platinum the original game the original way. The new game will come with new trophies, so it may be possible to more or less platinum WKC1 twice (sort of).

The big carry over is all the online progress you make from the first game.

Indeed! I'm never going to platinum the first game, my wife would probably walk out if I tried. It's bad enough going for all the skill trees, georama upgrades, GR8 and rebirths. I have something like 260 hours in the game now, so there's no going back, I'm committed to my goals. But I could double that investment and still not Platinum. I mean you have to essentially beat every quest, collect every item, bind every recipe once, and amass 10,000,000 gold at one time, it's not enough to cumulatively hit 10,000,000, all at one time is required. Then there are the Guild rank requirements and so on, and so forth... The Platinum trophy in this game is one of the hardest I've ever seen. Anyone that get's it should be well rewarded for their efforts, or at least receive some counseling so that they can rejoin reality.

Platinuming this game isnt that hard, just time consuming.. It took me 1126 hours.. but i know lots that did it in 500... but thats if youre focus 100% on platinum and nothing else to sidetrack/distract you ingame... thats the same length of time it takes to platinum star ocean 4 (which id never do)

and a year? I did it in 3 months... though 1126 hours in 3 months Im sure you can guess my hours per day were pretty long >.> cant wait for part 2!! as for origins thats gonna have to wait.. i dont even have a psp

My god! I own both WKC 1 and Star Ocean 4 and I am still adamant in platinuming them both one day. It just doesn't seem as though I'm going to do it in a straight playthrough. Most likely I'll come back to it from time to time but hey maybe that was the point of making trophies of this difficulty; to give the player a reason to come back and play the game after leaving it for a while.

The game that I will say was pretty decent for gaining the plat was NIER.

Well most of the trophies for wkc youd have to be online to play.. (unless youre already GR15 and have GR15 equipment) otherwise it would be a pain and take 10 times longer trying to solo whats needed for the trophies, also solo grinding is boring (which is why I can platinum wkc but not star ocean.. at least wkc is online and ppl have mics so were talking and goofing around in the process so Im actually having fun as opposed to it all feeling like grinding/a chore... if so4 had an online component (like so5 has been confirmed to have) then I would gladly platinum so4).

But anyway since wkc2 will have everything wkc1 had plus more I see no logical reason to keep the wkc1 servers up once wkc2 is out.. and you can only get wkc1 trophies on wkc1 (so it snot like you can finish your wkc1 trophy hunting on wkc2... even if you do play the upgraded version of wkc1 that comes with wkc2) so in other word if you wanna try to platinum wkc1.... you might wanna start now... you got 2 months :p

Well like i said that was slow... most ppl did it in half that time (500) also the platinum is not hard at all, time consuming and difficult are too very different things... you can take 8 hours to clean a hour... that doesnt mean the act of cleaning a house is difficult (seriously whats hard about cleaning up) its just time consuming :p

I still haven't completed the first one either. I was bouncing around between that and Demon's Souls at first. Then I got Mass effect 2. Now I keep playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3. And I have about 7 other games that I have yet to beat including Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Castlevania, dragon age 2, and so much more. I'll get around to it eventually lol.

I have been waiting for info on WKC 2 for sometime. I was starting to get a bit worried about it's status. I was a huge fan of the first title and know I'll be purchasing the sequel on day one. I'm also excited for the PSP prequel as well!

Best news I've heard all year.

I have been greatly waiting for this news. Now I just need to spend a few more hours leveling on the first one, beat the game again, so that I can use that save file when WKC 2 is released.

I will be using my save file and playing through the first one again with the new mechanics, can't wait to experience this.

The funny thing is, I've done so little level grinding online, that even though I've beat the game twice and am almost to the final battle on my third play through, I haven't rebirthed once yet.

I really should work on that. You have me dwarfed in hours highlander, I only have about 150 hours into it.

I skipped the first one because around the time I was going to get it I heard about WKC2. I heard that people who missed out on the first didn't have to worry because the 2nd also came with the 1st. Or something like that. If this isn't true, darn it, I'm going to have to borrow my friend's copy.

You can play just WKC2 and play through the story of both. In fact, if you don't have a clear file from the first game, the second one *makes* you play through the story from the beginning. So at this point, you only need play the first one if you want to get a head start on your online avatar - or if you just feel like playing it.

I just feel absolutely terrible that I never played the first game. Me and my whining that we don't get any good traditional RPGs.

I know it isn't turn-based, but it's about as close to "traditional" to anything we've got now. I vow to play the sequel!

It's not traditional turn based, but it is turn based in that you have to wait for your turn to occur. You can switch characters during battle and such too, so you retain control of the whole party. It's non traditional in that you can move around the arena all the time like in Star Ocean for example. If you just stand there, the monsters will take their turns hitting you, so unlike some turn based games, simple inaction doesn't stop things, though you can of course pause at any time.

To me, it's close enough to allow it to still be called turn based. Personally, I still wish that devs would offer a traditional turn based system as a game option so I can choose which way to play.

I would go so far as to just go ahead and call it live action turn based. You can move around, but when the monster has an available "hit" it's dependent upon stats whether or not he hits you, not where you're standing.

They should have just made it traditional as it can be funny to watch your guy fall down from a monsters foot stomp even though you're 10 feet away.

Being a fan of fantasy rpg above all else, I can easily say WKC is my favorite game on my ps3.

May would be great, I've been itching to replay the first one but I don't want to do it if it's coming with WKC2 in upgraded form. I hope my custom made lady friend has more of a part in the second one.

I'm getting Origins too, my PSP is angry I put Monster Hunter Freedom into it.

That was one thing I actually really liked about WKC, that your character isn't the main focus of the story.

Everyone always wants to create their own character, which I do enjoy, but that makes it more difficult to create a solid story as the devs have to make it fit basically a random character.

With WKC design you can make a character, with a great character creator, but they're just a background person, if you want to be the main character you can play as him or anyone else all the time. You can use whoever you want even in the villages when you only see one character. I love it.

I fully agree, I like that the custom character is a background entity, but he or she still needs more integration into the story in my opinion. It wouldn't kill the ambiance if they spoke. But let us pick a voice and attitude of course.

I've been doing the exact same thing! Itching to replay it, but with news that it'll have a revamped original (This is a defo, will be confirmed soon), i've been holding back. I can't wait to go again!

Oh and WKC2 will have a whole separate story dedicated to your avatar btw....and it gets it's own customisable knight!

I agree, it wouldn't hurt to integrate your custom character into the story a bit. Hard to do, but possible.

Liking the sidequest for your character in WKC2 though. That should be a lot of fun.

And finally, a knight! That was really missing in the online portion of WKC1... Can't wait!

other than Demon's Souls on PS3 which is a unique, non-standard RPG or JRPG this gen, and other than Lost Odyssey on Xbox360, WKC is the most classic typical feeling JRPG I have played this gen. I think very highly about it among the JRPGs released this gen (only a few I cared,Lost Odyssey, WKC, Star Ocean Last Hope, Magna Carta 2 on 360 etc). so I definitely look forward to the WKC2 release, maybe not as excited as The Last Guardian and Dark Souls and Uncharted 3, but it is one of those ones I will take the time to play through it and spent the time to level up as well, way better than FF13 imo in terms of what I want in a JRPG.

There's no way I'm missing out.

Was actually tempted in importing the Japanese version recently but it was sold out (waiting for re-stock). Guess that's a good thing, will get the US/EU version for sure.

Easily the rpg of the year. Will see if I can get the psp version too.
