oh this is so sweet, wish they would have brought this out a few months ago. then i would still have some of my game saves. sucks the network will be down all day for this. but oh well this is a feature worth the network being down for. cant wait for more psplus goodness

I think most PS3 owners aren't short of hard drive space these days, since the current models come with a fairly generous 120/160gb unit. The two real advantages of this feature are that you can back up your save data in case your HD is corrupted and that you can easily access your save data on a different PS3. Pretty neat.

The thing is, this will let you save to the cloud within a game, so you can play on any PS3 you like, and as long as your PSN information is correct you will get to your saves. So it's not just about hard disc space.

This is one of those features that I put right at the top of my wish list for Playstation Plus. This is a perfect illustration of the premium services that people would accept paying for because they are an enhancement to the basic service offered by the console already.

Highlander, I don't know. Look, it is a good feature no doubts, but remember, Sony is a very "clever" corporate machine. To the unsuspecting PS3 user, if they are made to believe they really need it, they will catch you.

You will get a plus subscription and once you are hooked it is difficult to ween yourself off it. All these features that are becoming available for Plus subscribers only are being done really to try and convert as many people onto a PSN subscription as possible. Sony would rather have you sign up because they know it is a hassle to get rid of the subscription once you have it, and if the amount is not huge per year, you probably wouldn't bother weening yourself of it anyway. Its more money to Sony but what are really getting back in return. Are the features that useful.

I spent 100 dollars and got myself a 1 Terra byte internal drive for PS3, I have enough space for 5 years and then some; and a simply do a quick game save to back every month or so. It saves me the yearly sub that can go toward a AAA title.

Personally I don't see it as necessary, but I am sure a few here will enjoy it. But I do ask, think before signing up for this, it is another cost to your wallet.

Granted more Plus members would be beneficial to Sony but the underlying fact is that people still have an alternative choice. We can stick with our hard drives and just continue to do routine backups if we so please. I think that if a person is okay with supporting this particular company called Sony, than it won't be that big of a deal to continue to pay 50 bucks a year for this subscription. I think Sony has shown us that they give us quality.

On any note, the point I'm making is that we are still given a choice. You just have to choose which one is better for your lifestyle.

Qubex, Playstation Plus, IMO, was worth the $50 a year BEFORE cloud saves. Cloud saves is a WELCOME addition. Just making our membership investment all the more worth it.

It is up to Sony to continue to provide good value in order to keep up their Plus member numbers, and thus far, I see a company that is trying hard to do just that.

If only this was available earlier this year! My roomie upgraded his PHAT 80 gig to 500 gigs, and we lost our Dragon Age: Origins save files! I wanted my bastardly deeds to transfer into Dragon Age 2, but alas, I just had to pick the closest preset. Still, it was entertaining to see Alistar (spelling? IDC) drunk and pining about his Nobility!

Anyhoo, love being a PLUS member and can't wait for the maintenance to finish. Got the Mortal Kombat demo downloaded and installed, but can't play it until I accept the EULA!

It's an enhancement to the existing ability to save to your local HDD and backup to a local storage device. it is therefore, by definition an premium service, which is precisely what Plus is for. This way no one loses out on any functionality, as this is an enhancement to existing functionality. But those that wish to have the enhancement can pay for it.

Exactly! Sony introduced a program for people that, if they so chose, could purchase and have enhancements to things that they already have on the console. This is the first "real" enhancement I have seen. The free games and early or exclusive demos and betas are nice but not true enhancements to pre-existing capabilities. This is, and if you don't want to pay then you don't get the enhancements, it doesn't hinder the core functionality, you just don't get the enhanced functionality.

Yeah, money is tight for some still. If you can't afford it, or don't think it's worth it then just don't get it, it doesn't hurt you not to have it, but don't complain that you don't get the extra things.

Nice. Now I can properly back up my locked saves. 3 times! I lost my Killzone 2 data. Even this last time, I just did a back up and restore and the data still didn't read when I tried to load my game. Hopefully this will eliminate the worry of losing locked save data in the future.

Aren't your trophies still on the PSN. Unless Demons Souls is the type of game that only awards certain trophies after a certain level is accomplished.In that Case that I feel your pain. I lost years of data so this feature is a godsend.

It keeps the trophies you've earned but you have to do everything over to build the character up and get the stuff you missed, like the rest of the spells, i had almost all of the spells, i need to finish that Trophy. (I don't have the trophy yet of getting all the spells)

I have all of the Unique weapons i believe, and i need to get a few more stones to finish upgrading the weapons, like Marrowstone for example. Not sure what else i need i can't remember.

So I dont need like a Back Up Device or a Pro Duo memory stick right?

I can just copy my save file to the cloud storage, go to my 2nd & even 3rd PLAYSTAION3 & use my Copy Righted data from cloud storage, to use my Red Dead Redemption Copy Righted save file with no Back Up Device or a Pro Duo memory stick?

Also how long can I copy & or keep my save file in there for?

Well I don't think I'll need extra storage for game saves, those are pretty small, but it's a great idea for backup, because hard drives aren't perfect. Speaking of plus benefits, anyone else play that Mortal Kombat demo? I liked it, but it seems they made it way easier than the old games were.

Its the only fighting game I like. Its my 2nd Mortal Kombat I've ever played, my 1st was on Ps1 & I was too young to remember so I cant say how easy it is. I can tell you though, my fingers hurt from all them combos (Using D-Pad off course). I was using like 1 combo BTW. lol.

Nothing happens to them, they just stay there until you renew the subscription, but you can't use them if you don't pay.

(I believe that's how it is, I'm not certain how this works, I'm guessing it works the same principle as the other features.)

Supposedly the data will remain for 6 months according to the PS EU forums. But On the US PS Blog someone replied and stated that the data will be lost. I'm confused. Sony will need to clarify these details.

I'd imagine that there will be a period of time that they hold the data for. But since you are using cloud space, it won't be indefinite since you wouldn't be paying if your subscription lapses. That would be one of those things that has to be *clearly* laid out in the terms and conditions.

I'm going out on a limb and suggesting that the PSN authentication process will be beefed up to prevent the usual DNS tricks allowing people running unofficial or outdated firmware from accessing PSN. That would require all PSN servers to be updated in preparation for the switchover. And since there will be a firmware to go with it, it would be an opportune time to do a switchover of sorts.

from what i know the rewards go live for everyone april 1st. those already in the program keep the current status until next april. as of april 1st any of those quests you did should reopen to be redone. i am also getting close to pro but i do not think they will reset us until next april. something to do with this program running through their fiscal year i believe. probably so they can gauge customer reactions to stuff on a year to year basis money wise.

Still don't see much reason to get PLUS. This is def one of the better features it offers, but most of the free games and "discounts" are pretty lame. They could def knock alot more than a few dollars off some of the PSN titles for $50/year!

Someone calculated the amount of accumulated Plus giveaways to more than $400. Of course not everyone will use it all but logically you can not expect Sony to just put everything out at once. Give them time. The service will grow.

I actually keep multiple save files of all of my games, however for this type of service I would just keep my finished game saves on there.

Then also if I wanted to move a save from a current game to another ps3 I could put it on there and use it until I was done with that game.

I don't need all of my saves from every game, just the last one, so it's safe.

Fine, online distributed server based storage has a place, but people talk of the mysterious cloud like it has the ability to solve world poverty, hunger and initiate world peace. It's just a fricking big distributed file server. Talk about vendor lock in though. Imagine if all your personal data files, photos, music, video and whatnot are all stored on some Cloud(tm) service, and you forget to pay your fees...oopsie, no access to your personal data until you pay up! Oh, and by the way, now you're our subscriber, we'd just like to point out that you can't transfer your data elsewhere because we don't support competing services. Also, we have this nifty Cloud(tm) based word processor/spreadsheet application, it's 'free' as long as you use the Cloud(tm). What's that? you want to convert your files to use them on something else? Sorry, no can do....

This 'cloud' based save service from Sony is very narrowly targeted at game saves, and I have no issue with it because it is so targeted, plus it's an enhancement to an existing process, not a replacement. But too many people put all their eggs in one basket, and that's what the Cloud(tm) vendors are after.

I would have to say that all storage systems that you pay for are based in the fact that you have to UPLOAD them from your PC/other device, I.E. you have the original files. Access to them off the server is locked if you dont pay, yeah, but its not like your world crumbles and you dont have your data ever again. Unless youre stupid enough to delete the files off your pc after backing them up.

Man, this is just awesome I think. Too bad it didn't show up in time for my daughter's save files, but I'll be taking advantage of this as soon as it's activated.

Playstation Plus really is a great value. Sony is a little more generous with the plus program than I expected. The Rewards program may turn into something great as well, but we're not allowed to discuss it.

This is tempting... The most tempting Plus feature for me yet, if only for my 'copy prohibited' games.

I've got a little flash drive that I keep in my PS3 specifically for game save backups. If it weren't for those pesky copy prohibited games this backup system would be perfect.

I really don't want to pay $50/year for it though. I'm not saying Plus isn't worth $50 for those who'll use it. But for my gaming habits and for what the service offers, it's just not worth it for me. Discounts on games I won't buy, and early access to demo's I'll get in a week anyway. Sorry Sony, cloud saves wont be enough to get my $50.00. Not yet.

Now if Sony comes up with a Plus service that can make the day 3 or 4 hours longer, then sign me up!

It copies the protected save data and uploads it to the Cloud Storage, doesn't matter if it's protected.

Great idea, I will have to become a PS+ member. I have so many games to buy though. 5 Trophies away from my KZ3 Platinum. Then Homefront, Crysis 2, Mortal Kombat and Motorstorm Apocalypse. PS+ will have to wait until at least June. Thanks Sony, great idea!

I'm still not on board with PSN Plus. But I think this is a cool feature that adds value to the service. Personally, I back up all of my game saves to a USB flash drive that just stays plugged into my PS3 all of the time (game saves take up very little space so I can hold 1,000s of saves with 4GB).

Does anyone know if this service automatically backs up your saves to the network? Or would I have to manually do it?

I'm still waiting for the real deal maker feature that makes this service worthwhile. Right now I'd still rather pick my discounts at my own discretion without an annual $50 (that adds up fast over the span of a few years). I think patience is the ultimate key to getting the best value these days, and it's a virtue that saves money where I don't have to pay $50 a year to exercise it.

It does NOT automatically save it. You navigate to the save file you want to copy to the cloud, hit triangle I believe, and the top option is to copy.

It was very simple, and I was surprised how fast it copied over. Very fast.

i do wish it was for everyone to use, not just plus members. i have to switch over to my other account to use the advantages of plus cause my main account i use i learn the hard way by game sharing now i cant activate that account with the ps3 i use. anyoo i think plus members should get something extra with the cloud like more storage space just something else. Ive been using the cloud Ive already use 30mb of it. i think they should of given us at least 1gb or 500mb. i don't think it will take long till it maxing out 150mb.

Awesome! Plus member since Day 1 - absolutely worth it! Even though I've had a 320GB HDD installed on my Launch 60 for over 2 years, saving to a cloud will allow me to play on my 80GB in another room. If only they had this since the start...

I am beyond trilled that they have added this feature for plus members. As someone who's BC PS3 is no longer with us and had their backup become corrupted I can really use this. I just wish that this had come out before I decided to play Heavy Rain several times on my quest to get the 25 different endings. I think I will now resume the challenge to get the Heavy Rain platinum.
