L.A. Noire Trailer: Search For Clues, Question Suspects

They have to stop teasing us with these Gameplay Series videos. They make May 17 seem too far away.

The latest eye-opening gameplay trailer for L.A. Noire has arrived, and this one involves the extremely intriguing processes of searching a crime scene and interrogating a suspect. Here, we get a chance to see the important elements of gameplay; finding that murder weapon is a case-breaker, but even something small like a business card can help. Pay attention, sleuths!

Interrogating a suspect relies on that often-discussed MotionScan technology, which will allow us to read the faces of our suspects. I know I'm gonna eat this game up somethin fierce. I hope they get on top of that screen tearing though. The same thing is one of the few issues that took me out of heavy rain a bit.

Screen tearing is TURRIBLE! There's absolutely no reason for it other than laziness. I could put up with it in some games as long as it's not too bad but for the most part I won't by a game if it has too much tearing. I refuse to reward developers who can't be bothered to fix something that's as easy to fix as tearing.

EDIT: World, in regards to this game I didn't notice any tearing. It could be the video feed and how it's refreshing on your computer. Sometimes Gametrailers and IGN videos tear. Download the PSN trailers. There wasn't any tearing in those.

@YashaZz, Are you sure you want to know? Once you know what it is and start to see it, you can never go back. Haha.

Hmm... now i understand.

But I haven't noticed in many games so far.
I think Castlevania: LoS had some screen tearing, but it wasn't game breaking.

Which version did you play? The PS3 version didn't have any. In fact, the overall frame rate took a small hit in order to keep the image free from tearing considering how detailed many of the environtments were. Games that have extremely noticeable tearing, Assasin's Creed 1&2 and Enslaved. There's more, I just can't think of them at the moment.

My EYES! My EYES! Now I've seen what screen tearing is, and can't look at games the same again....

Haha, but yeah, I always thought screen tearing was when animations are jagged-ey or that some objects seem out of place, sorta "tearing" from the environment, so to speak.

did anybody else notice the mind reader from Heroes @ 2:17 in the trailer i cant remember his names but he could push thoughts read minds all that stuff he is is in the game or somebody who looks just like him

At first I was wondering why he wasn't wearing gloves while handling the evidence, but then I remembered that this is set in the 40s. Question answered.

But L.A. Noire, based on these gameplay explanation vids, is going to absolutely amazing. I can't wait to get my hands on this one.

So I noticed a few things watching this video. Like a few actors who stood out as recognizable from hollywood.

I also noticed that it looks like the cars in the game are from Mafia 2 as is a lot of the clothing. I don't mean they look similar, it's the same stuff. Also the melee combat mechanic was identical.

I haven't heard one way or the other, but are they using the same engine as mafia 2, I mean it appears to me as if we're getting mafia 2.5. Slightly upgraded graphics and the mocap feature. However instead of being in the mob, we're the cop solving the crime.

Now I loved mafia 2, so this doesn't really disappoint me or anything, just wandering if anyone else noticed this stuff.

I don't think it's the same engine. Mafia 2 engine performed horribly on the PS3.

Really? I just got it a couple weeks ago and I've put about 25 hours into and I haven't had any big issues.

Only problem I have seen at all is rarely when driving over 100 mph it will lag for a second. Other than that I've had no issues.

Do you know it's not the same engine because it all looks the same, I'm playing mafia 2 right now and almost identical, just L.A. Noire has a little better graphics.

Edit: Just checked and according to game informer it is a different engine, but not kidding how close they look.

I haven't played the retail version but the Mafia 2 demo was wretched. Slow frame rate and massive screen tearing.

I noticed the same thing, but it looks like a Rockstar type build. I loved Mafia's story, but hated the archaic gameplay.

when I played the demo I didn't notice the frame rate, but there was some screen tearing, but like I said I've been playing it for a while since I got it and it's been great.

Surprisingly the betrayal of jimmy is a lot of fun too. It allows you to play in the world be it's more sandbox style as opposed to the main story which is meant to be a linear story in an open world.

I'll be honest, I'm a crime scene junky. Fringe, Bones, even the really old school shows like Colombo etc. Having a chance to step into the shoes of the detective plus an open world format, and then facial scanning tech on top of that... this may just be in the running for my new favorite game.

I pre-ordered this today for the sharpshooter detective suit dlc. I don't usually pre-order for anything really but have a feeling this game will live up to it's hype.

Rockstar really knows how to make original games. I mean GTAIV wasn't original by gameplay nature, but the story and the way the game was built technically hasn't been seen during this generation. RDR was pretty refreshing minus that Mexico part. And this game looks uniqe as well. No Kingdom to save, or demon to kill, no universe to save, or headshot to claim...just pure refreshing entertainment. Even if I didn't like Rockstar, I would have to give them kudos when it comes to innovating. Look at the facial animations alone...WHOA! Add a detective story with features that seem to out do Heavy rain at its own game and LA Noire seems to be another Rockstar million dollar hit.

only thing im worried about this is i hope they dont make it too hard to tell if someones lying or telling the truth, and hopefully the game wont end shorter, or become restricted because i made too many wrong choices.
i can just see missing out on allot of content because im not a lie detector.
hopefully they tell you if the choice you made was the correct one too, that way your not sitting there wondering.

I agree. I also hope that they eventually let you buy the pre-order bonuses from the PS store. I'd hate to not be able to play a certain mission because I didn't purchase the game from a specific retailer.

Other than what looks to be crappy melee animations (from the 3 seconds they actually showed of it) and a noticeable lack of texture in the faces, it looks excellent.
