Rising Director: PS3 Version "Better Than Other Versions"

While Metal Gear Solid: Rising is coming to multiple platforms, the die-hard fans are thinking it might be best on the PS3.

There are multiple reasons for believing that, but perhaps they're right: according to a new interview with Rising director Shigenobu Matsuyama, the PS3 version will be better simply because it's the more powerful piece of hardware. The translation is broken but Matsuyama's intention is relatively clear, and he finishes as follows: "So it is natural that the PS3 version is better than the other two versions." One could assume it's all because of the PS3's capabilities, or one could remember this particular team is likely comprised of individuals who are much more familiar with Sony's hardware. Granted, Kojima is only a figurehead - of sorts - when it comes to this project; he isn't directly involved. But just about anything MGS from Kojima Productions just has to be best played on the PS3, yes?

It's all the worse for the other two platforms (Xbox 360, PC) if they're planning on ports. We're actually hoping they make the game from the ground up for all three platforms; nobody likes shoddy ports. But either way, if you have the option, it seems Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the PS3 is the right choice.

Day one purchase.

Not expecting anything near MGS4, but it is sure to be incredibly fun.

I have a PS3 and 360, I just prefer using the PS3. I'm glad to hear the best version is on the PS3.

Indeed it should be the best on PS3.
I doubt kojima would let anything other than near perfection be released with MGS in the title,in fact he's probably playing a build of the game right now making sure its sweet for all us MGS fanatics.

Hope you're right.

If it gets Kojima's stamp of approval, it's guaranteed to be good.

I think this is an easier said than done circumstance seeing that dozens of PS3 multi-plats have come up short in comparison to the 360 over the last few years (not as often these days). The PS3 is the more powerful machine, right? What's Ubisofts, EAs, and Activision's excuse for games like Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age: O, CoD etc not being up to 360's par?

Anyway, MGS is a PS series as far as I'm concerned, like Tekken, so I'll be gunning for the PS3 version.

In all honesty, and this could be my conspiracy theorist coming out, I believe their excuse is that they don't want to piss off deep pockets.

It's not really a secret that Microsoft has a tonne of money and they aren't afraid to throw it around and give developers incentives for timed DLC, exclusive content, and other things of that nature.

When a company like Microsoft is flashing money around and has the PR power that they do, a business would naturally be inclined to give them a little extra attention.

i have to agree with you as far as multiplats are concerned. games like you mentioned do look better on the 360. there are a lot more than that, too. there have been very few multiplats that look better on the ps3.

i can only think of 2. ff13, and castlevannia los. i do trust kojima to deliver on this promise, unlike so many other developers. ubisoft saying ac2 on the ps3 looked just as good as the 360 version is just a flat out lie.

Kojima Pro has already proved they make better games on PS3. Lords of Shadow turned out much better on the PS3. Why would this be any different? Seriously, why does it seem you have an axe to grind when it comes to multiplats and the PS3? this isn't 2007 anymore and those games and devs you listed are natorious for making shoddy PS3 ports. Kojima Pro does no such thing.

thanks for the comments guys. and Jawknee, I don't understand your response, maybe you misunderstood me. Why hasn't many of the other mutliplat devs been able to come up with a "better" version of all of their multiplats? The PS3 is the more powerful machine, right?

Isn't that what everyone thought before the PS3 launched? Has that reasoning always been a clear indicator of a "better" multiplat game?
When the rubber met the road clearly there were more variables in play that affected multiplatform quality outside of "power." If anything it's a lack of effort on Sega's part (Bayonetta), Tryearch's part (Black Ops).

So please don't confuse my post with a reason to attack Kojima team, and I clearly declared that the PS3 version would be my platform of choice.
I too have confidence that MGS:Rising will at least be as good as the 360 version. I suspect the team will make few programming concessions for the game like many multiplatform devs do when factoring for the 360.

and btw, I doubt Kojima touched a line of code in LoS as Mercury Steam a euro team developed it.

Kojima still played a major part in quality control. He supervised the project and made sure everything was top notch before it was released. I don't think you were attacking Kojima pro, I was simply pointing out that you're wrong in assuming "it's an easier said than done" thing when it comes to these guys. Your favorite site said LoS was better on the PS3, yes Mercury Steam developed the game but it was still a part of Kojima Productions. Given that, there is no reason to believe "it's an easier said than done" type of deal with these guys. I have no idea why Treyarch and others do such poor work. I would say laziness especially on the part of Treyarch since World at War wasn't a shoddy port yet Black Ops is. I also think Coverton has a point. MS has lots of money to throw around and given MS past of unethical behavior and bribes, it doesn't seems that far fetched that MS would throw a developer a little extra dough to make sure the 360 version is better.

Like I said, this isn't 2007 anymore and the differences in games is negligible. If Kojima Pro says Rising will be better on PS3 there is no reason not to believe them unless you have an axe to grind which it sometimes seems you do since you are the one constantly reminding us "how much better" multiplats are on the 360.

And you know as well as I do that we don't need "superior" multiplats to prove the PS3 is superior hardware. PS3 exclusives have already proved that point.

Bayonetta and Black Ops were both 2010. Disparities in multi-plats still exist today, Jawknee. And if IGN's recent hands on with Crysis 2 is to be believed, Crysis 2 will be another PS3 under performer.
I'm not trying to prove the power of the PS3, it's already common sense here isn't it? That's not the question.
If Kojima's help was highly involved right down to programming the lines of code, so be it. I doubt it, but I don't have any evidence their to know for certain, so I'll leave that point alone.

But why is it so difficult for you to wrap your mind around the idea that because the PS3 is so much more powerful why do we still see multiplats that come up below 360? The reasoning Shigenobu Matsuyama is using doesn't explain this phenomena. I say it's easier said than done because this generation, as a whole, has proven that as far as multiplats are concerned, it's easier to say PS3 multiplats are better, but obviously it's not so easy because there's so many PS3 under performers out there.. You just tried to narrow the scope of that statement towards Kojima Team alone where that was not my intention. Nice try =p

Oh, and btw, I think yours and Covertron's conspiracy theory can be logged in the book of weightless mythical accusations as far I'm concerned. And with any known evidence I can infer upon, both Sony and MS pay up money to make enhanced versions of multiplats (see Batman, see CoD map packs).
I'm not going to keep spinning my wheels so you can keep pace, Jawknee. I think I'll let you make your argumentative quips and I'll just deal with it because I'm getting tired of wearing these "kitty gloves" around your sensitivities.

Seriously, your arrogance is getting old. Seems to me you just don't like it when I disagree with you since you think you know so much when you're actually just regurgitating the nonsense you read on biased websites. SO what if Bayonnaise and Black Ops were crappy ports? Vanquish and Lords of Shadow weren't. Those are also 2010 titles. And Crysis 2 is a terrible example, how many games has Crytek made for the PS3? Oh yea, that's right...zero. If Crysis 2 comes out as a bad port that's on Crytek. Doesn't mean the PS3 is inferior to the 360. That's the whole freaking point of this article. Kojima Pro knows the PS3 hardware. Crytek doesn't. These crappy ports fall squarely on the developer and their lack of knowledge and/or willingness to use the hardware in the correct way. You know this, you're just being smug in your views. So it's NOT such a "easier said than done" scenario now is it? You need to seriously think about your arrogance and learn that not everyone is going to agree with your highness. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me, seems you are the one who gets bent out of shape when I challenge your opinion, facts, logic what ever.

Indeed. He's not incorrect in stating that multiplats have not been the best on the PS3 in the past but he is incorrect in doubting that Kojima Pro will do what all those other, arguably, mediocre devs do. Especially when they have proven themselves with Lords of Shadow. He should know. His favorite site to quote is Digital Foundry and even they said the PS3 version had the upper hand.

I also liked Lords of Shadow quite a bit. More than I thought I would. I will likely be getting the DLC for it as I need a reason to go back to the game. :)

Since they got experience on the platform and the PS3 is slightly more powerful, it makes sense(and by the way, it's about time a dev did this), not to mention that it seems to be the primary development platform.

What bugs me is that PCs can be more powerful(Ok, PS3 is a beast but 2000$ hardware can top it) so maybe they somehow admit that it won't be a smooth port.

I am really suprised to hear that. Today most game developers are not interested in doing an high quality port to PS3. Platinum Games have blamed themselfs with Bayonetta, but redeemed it with Vanquish.

I hope that it is true what they say. The announcement that MGS:Rising is coming to Xbox 360 was a huge let down for me. A watered down game for PS3 is almost in every case an inevitable consequence. Maybe the prove otherwise.

The sad thing is that ports from the PS3 generally turn out far better than ports to the PS3. Look at DMC4 and Burnout: Paradise for examples.

Well, it's good to hear that Kojima has indoctrinated his workers with the PS3 superiority mentality, and I hope that they can succeed in pushing the system as far as they can, while keeping it within the working limits of the 360. Multiple DVDs FTW! Or maybe we'll just get some longer cutscenes. >.>
