Ubisoft Doesn't Regret Altering Call Of Juarez Setting
Red Dead Redemption was a breakthrough title in at least one way: it was arguably the first elite Western-themed video game.
And it proved so unbelievably popular that some might assume the Wild West would be hot right now; i.e., a suitable setting for other productions. Lest we forget, the Call of Juarez series has always been set in the old west, so maybe Ubisoft could capitalize on Rockstar's success. But the new Call of Juarez: The Cartel is actually set in modern day, so does the publisher regret the decision...? According to Ubisoft producer Samuel Jacques, the answer is "no:"
"I don't think it's a good idea to react to competition and say 'they're doing this, we should do that'. It's difficult to do a good game like that. The strongest idea we had [when thinking about Call of Juarez 3] was playing as a cop against a gangster, so we felt the modern setting was where we had to go."
Well, despite the fact that game makers often take ideas from other studios, this makes perfect sense. If you've got an idea and you're convinced it'll work, don't go second-guessing yourself because of what someone else does. There's some individuality in that line of thinking, isn't there? That's worth respecting.
The Cartel is set to wage war in the streets this summer.

They should've made a game based on that, instead of going with the cop vs gangster cliche.
But its not like the French know much about the cartel wars down South.
