Crytek Talks Crysis 2 PS3: Visual Quality, Demo Info
It has been a common question recently: how will Crysis 2 look on the PlayStation 3? After all, it has been created by the PC-oriented developer, Crytek.
Well, there's a PlayStation Blog interview with the game's executive producer, Nathan Camarillo, and he specifically addresses those concerns. He also talks about the multiplayer demo, which is available now on the PlayStation Network. Here's his response to the question, "How do you utilize the PS3 to live up to the high PC standard?"
"It’s the core of CryEngine 3 that’s able to scale appropriately and we can adjust per platform exactly what we wanna get out of it. We want the exact same gameplay experience, the same fun, the same intensity, all the same visual information that you need to understand and play the game appropriately. It’s just a lot of under the hood magic."
The Blog then got specific by citing a recent IGN article that said Crysis 2 didn't come out great on the PS3. On the flip side, other sources like CVG and PSM didn't see it that way. Camarillo's reply:
"I’ve gone on the record saying that if you stick PS3 and 360 side by side I would challenge anyone to find any meaningful difference. I don’t see it at all."
As for the demo, he tells everyone that we need to "break the habit of being ground-constrained like in other games." In other words, we're all trained to think we have to stick to the ground in a shooter (unless you're flying around in a jet pack in Killzone 3, of course), and we might be surprised at what we see in Crysis 2.
"If it’s one story high, you can jump there. If it’s a story and half, you can jump and pull yourself up. So it really changes the speed and pace of multiplayer. I can’t wait for PlayStation 3 owners to get their taste of crazy, insane nanosuit multiplayer action."

Thought it was ok - i agree it doesnt hold a candle to killzone 3, but then i didnt expect it too; Multiplats never can compare to ps exclusives.
I suppose you have to compare it to cod, since everything is these days and i thought it was about the same, graphics were abit better and the whole nanosuit is pretty decent. If this came out before killzone it mighta sold well as theres alot of people who are bored of being milked by thew cash cow that is call of duty. But i dont know how anyone would be able to recommend this over Killzone.
Therefore i only expect it to sell well on the PC (which is was always going to sell well on) and will have limited success on xbox, mainly that there hasnt been a new Halo or Gears game for a while, and the new Gears isn't coming out until the christmas season.

And I thought Gears 3 was supposed to be out this April? What are Xboxers going to play from now until then? Kinectimals?
@GuernicaReborn
As Cavan said some of the mechanics with the nano suit are kind of cool but nothing ground breaking. Nothing the Octocamo in MGS4 didn't already do.

I won't be getting it as well when i get my PS3, it looks fun and all. But i don't like games that have frame rate issues, jaggies etc and who knows what else the game has problems with. If they want people to buy it they better fix it right away.
I'm saving my money for my PS3 and Socom 4.

wow, someone call the shockbulance!
come on, seriously!
crysis 2 was never going to be as visually impressive as KZ3 unless you have a high powered PC.
people seem to be forgetting this is cryteks first venture onto consoles.
cant be perfect first time, every time!

So, how does playing in 3D with glasses on for an extended period of time feel? And, what it the longest session you've had without taking a break, having to adjust them, or having to take them off? I'm all excited for 3D and what not and easily have the money for it, but damn those glasses just keep swaying my decision to take the plunge. I want to be the first in my circle to quote unquote show off as the first with an awesome 3D setup and hopefully convince more of the buddies to get on board with the exclusives, but I fear the glasses are a huge hinderence.
Also, can you switch on the fly whether you want to be playing in 3D or not, or do you have to quit the game and reload it? It being KZ3. Guess I could look at the options since I own the game, but that would be too easy.

As for your second question, so far all the games I have played you have to quit to the main menu to turn 3D off and on though if you want to be lazy and not quit and reload the game, you can just turn the 3D off on the TV using the TV remote. It will take it out of the 3D mode and look 2D again but the game will still be hindered by being in 3D mode on the game. For example when playing Killzone 3 in 3D the framerate suffers a tad and there is a small amount of pop in. That will not go away unless you turn 3D off in the game menu. It's not game breaking but the games do tend to perform better in 2D mode than they do in 3D. But the 3D experience is still great and well worth the cost in my opinion.

And I agree that the 3D is worth it in most cases. I've said it before, I don't think it adds much to GT5, because things go so fast anyway, and I dont use the in cockpit view.
@Jawknee - I havent seen that Uncharted 3D trailer. I'll look for it tonight....that's not some PSplus thing is it??

Meaningful difference being the key, also that he doesn't see it, but this is from the people who said it would be the best looking console game ever made. So it stands to reason they are either flat out lying or they are incredibly delusional.

Also people using stealth mode was highly aggrivating, they just come straight up to you, and punch you in the face without you noticing. 0_o

this is somewhat dissapointing becuase crytek said the ps3 version was coming along better at 1 point. they said a lot of things, though. most of which has turned out to be bs.
i was skeptical becuase of the lack of ps3 footage, and the demo coming so late. if you have a game that looks so great, then you showcase it on the system. talk is cheap, and this developer has done a lot of talking.

Plus, a lot of the complaints are about the gameplay and the feel of it as well, and I highly doubt much was changed between now and then about that.
Btw, the reason we're stuck with military shooters is because no one's been making good sci-fi shooters except for Guerrilla Games and Insomniac. And since you don't like to support their games at all, judging by all the harsh comments you've made towards KZ and Resistance in the past, you're just one of many people out there who unintentionally support the military shooters. Go figure.

look at the crysis 2 leaked beat code, it had so many bugs and glitches, no one could get a FPS above 20 no matter what system they were running!
2 weeks later the demo came out and its running smooth as silk!
they cant release a new demo either, because it takes weeks to get things submitted by sony onto PSN, so by the time it would be passed the game would already be out.

Btw, where's the good gameplay Crytek? Just wondering because when you talk smack about every other console game out there, I kinda expect a little more of an effort.

Though I must say, the game looked might nice on my PC. If you really want this game and have a PC that can run it. Get the PC version.
