Doing Everything In Arkham City Will Take 25-30 Hours

Batman: Arkham City won't be here until October 18, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate more details, right?

Rocksteady provides fans with more info at the UK Arkham City site, and they talk about length, side quests, and more. First and foremost, game director Sefton Hill says the story mode is "designed to be story-driven while remaining open-world," so it's kind of a blend. Secondly, the main plot will take about 12-15 hours to complete but for the record, that's "less than half the game." Thirdly, he mentions the Arkham City Missions:

"These tell the story of what happens when Gotham’s most notorious super villains are locked up together. These run concurrently to the main story and can be tackled whenever you find them in the city streets. Some of my favourite moments are in these missions, including tracking down a deranged serial killer, solving a murder mystery, forming an alliance with a one-time villain and confronting the Riddler as he attempts to prove once and for all he is better than Batman."

Sounds awesome. Then there are riddles to solve and secrets to locate, which should be like catnip for all the adventuring completionist types. See, the Riddler has "definitely raised his game" this time around, so it's not just about finding the secrets; nearly every "riddle" requires that you "use your gadgets in inventive and interesting ways." So what does all this mean?

Well, it means what he said above- if you want to rush right through, the length is 12-15 hours. If you actually want to do everything the game has to offer, it's more like 25-30 hours.

back in the day I rented both batman and infamous at the same time and tried both before i devoted my time. i was hooked on infamous and bats was left hanging. i haven't been able to go back to bats ever since =(

but anyhow this batman game looks pretty cool.

While I agree that it is the best batman game ever made, that really isn't saying much since most batman games suck horribly.

Arkham asylum uses the unreal engine and it's obvious when you play. It turned out to be an ok game compared to other ps3 games.

Arkham Asylum was more then just an ok game..Also it wasn't just the best Batman game ever made it's the Best Super Hero game made. I'm not sure what exactly about it made it just a "ok" game..just curious

Batman AA wasn't an "OK" game...Batman AA in many minds including mine see Batman ahead of Infamous. If anything, their are only a few PS3 exclusives that crack my favorite games of all time. Outside of the MGS series, Uncharted series and maybe GOW, franchises like AC, Bioshock, Fallout, Mass Effect, and GTA have kept my attention forever. Even though PS3 exclusive have quality, they don't always satsify preference.

Batman AA is a great game and definitely one of my favorite games. Give it a chance

Yes I know some people are so in love with batman they couldn't see the glaring flaws the game had.

I'm discussed it before and don't really see the need to go into again, but if someone thought that Batman AA was better than Infamous you are really delusional.

But anyways, I think its hard to compare Batman:AA and Infamous. One is an open-world non-comic-book superhero game, the other is a linear comic-book superhero game. But since both games had their fair share of technical issues, I'd say they're about equally great IMO.

Although since Batman:AC is gonna be open-world, it'll be a lot easier to compare the two. Let's just hope both I2 and Batman:AC are gonna be great.

Back tracking doesn't make a game open world. That being said, the game has great visuals (hardly any slow down, no screen-tearing, rich texture-work and detail, elaborate animations) great variety in gameplay (mallet, projectiles, traps, stealth, platforming, puzzles, and if it had the batmobile and batwing, it would've been AAA in my book), excellent production values and voice-acting. Only weakness was it's strength: Unreal engine. Batman controlled like a truck.

InFamous, on the other hand, is an open-world. However, if we were to compare them straight up as single-player video games, I'd say inFamous has an addictive quality to it, which Batman:AA doesn't, IMHO, most definitely having to do with controls and mobility.

I'm looking forward to Arkham City (especially if it has the batmobile and batwing in a true open-world). But my expectations from inFamous 2 are sky-high, and totally at a different level.

btw guys, I wasn't trying to imply that I didn't think Batman was good when I tried it. I liked it, in fact. It's just once I started playing Infamous the game really sucked me in, don't know why. It just did. The control playability of the game is simply outstanding. The Sly Cooper stuff must've given Sucker Punch a lot of experience because Infamous controls so very very well.

no, batman begins is the best batman game!
AA was good, but it was far too repetitive and did not have many gadgets.
thats who batman is, without his million and one gadgets his nothing!
thats what id love to see rocksteady do after arkham city, do a HD remake of batman begins.
one of the very few video games based on a movie license which did not suck!

I really don't think you can actually compare Batman and InFamous. They're two completely different games...InFamous isn't really a super hero game. InFamous is more so compared with Prototype then Batman

I think some people misunderstood what I was saying. Some people are saying the game will take only 8 hours and some are saying 15.

I'm saying if you play it on easy it'll probably only take you 8 hours, but if you play it on hard it'll probably take you 15.

I don't remember that being said about GoW III. Even so, I remember GoW III to be pretty long. If I remember correctly Arkham Asylum was longer then 8 hours..not sure though..been over a year so it's a little fuzzy

The devs said GoWIII would take 22 hours... We all see how that worked out. Although B:AA took me about 12, so if this is shorter, considering the larger scope, I'll be very let down.

If I remember correctly, their later pre-release, E3 estimates were between GOW1 and GOW2. Shorter than the second, but longer than the first. In reality, I think it was closer to the first, if not shorter.

If they were indeed changes in the length estimates, I'm sure it had to do with the change of leadership during development. Corey Barlog handed over the reigns of leadership to Stig Asmussen (former art-lead, and level designer). Stig still did a tremendous job. He changed the focus from trying to make it be the be-all/end-all, to focusing on breathe-taking assets and visuals not before possible.

I'd be more excited if I actually believed that the sidequests were going to be interesting. In the first game they were more just annoying than anything else.

I hope they have changed them quite a bit like they are making it sound, because I really don't want to spend 15 hours looking for little green question marks behind destructible walls.

For this game, "side quests" doesn't mean just the Riddler puzzles. He means real side quests, so I don't see how you don't think they'll be interesting given what they've told us.

As far as sidequests go, about all they've said is that the game will have them and they'll be better than Batman AA.

As for listening to what they've told us, read the article Ben posted just before this one about how developers lie about their games.

D1P! Batman Arkham Asylum was GOTY material not just the best super hero game. It was a massive fan service. This will be a platinum effort for sure. I am predicting a tough plat. If you haven't played AA you are missing out. It's like a good book and will suck you in and not let go. (Blushing) I beat it on the Xbot way back before I fell head over heals for the PS3. May have to give AA a go some time this summer.

Well look at it this way some people still aren't fortunate enough to buy an HDTV so consider yourself lucky that you have one no matter what size it is.

I plan on getting a sweet projector somewhere down the line as I've wanting one fro some time now.

Man I replayed Batman AA more than any other game outside of Demons Souls. I love Batman and I love what Rocksteady did with their game. If the new game is on the same lines as the last...then I will be impressed. This was already a day 1 purchase for me.

Yay, Batman! I'm very excited about this game on so many levels. I loved every minute of Arkham Asylum. It was the first licensed game that I thought held its own against other properties that are primarily from video games.

wish they would delve more into the story.

1. I'll admit that I am one of the very few that passed on AA due to the reputation that all of the batman games before it failed and failed hard, but I will not pass on AC.

2. This is to those who think that AA was a bad game compared to InFAMOUS. Get over yourself. You are deliberately saying that one game is better than the other because one was an exclusive(and first party to boot). News flash genus, despite what you may think, it is the third parties that provide the lifeblood of a console and right now, most of them, Like WB, are seeing that developing for multiple platforms is better for their bottom line because of the discrepancy of console popularity on a global scale.
