The first time I realized I was playing with a woman it never even crossed my mind that it was kind of "taboo" I guess is the word. I mean really girls have been playing games just as long as us guys. Some guys just need to get over themselves and stop being arrogant pr*cks.

I have to agree with you Jawknee, this trend is getting out of control, guys are taking too long to mature this days...
On an out-of-topic note, do you or any of the old-timers and by that I mean on this site ;) have any recommendations, as far as early PS3 games are concerned? I had my friend buy a PS3 after playing Uncharted 2 for 8 hours straight at my place and want him to start with some of the earlier titles. I will lend him HS and Uncharted 1, anything else I might recommend from the really early days? Thanks in advance!

Umm...pretty much any PS3 exclusive. Infamous, Killzone, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time, Valkria Chronicles. Some decent multiplats would be Vanquish, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock 1 and 2, Dead Space 1 and 2. I would just browse through some of the reviews on this site or send him here. There's too many to mention them all. haha

Thanks man, I was thinking really early on but thinking back on it, the early years were very bland, beside HS and Uncharted 1, cant think of much else that was just too good to pass on... all those titles you mention are must haves, just want him to start from the beginning.

Resistance: FOM is about as early as you can get for good exclusives. I would also reccomend Motorstorm too. I really liked Burnout Paradise and Assassins Creed if they haven't already played those on 360. Right now I cant think of much more than the others already reccomended.

who cares about all this. The time that I ran into online-PS3 and thought was pretty funny was that 2 boys making fun of another boy that had the words barbie and bambi in the person's nickname, they all had mics on and swearing back and forth, after couple of secs. it all got boring, and just muted them. My bad, hit the reply button.

The immaturity that goes along with online gaming is really sad to see. Personally, it's why I mostly stay away from it. The last thing I need after a long day is getting cussed out by some prepubescent dweeb hiding behind a microphone. I do feel sympathy for the girl gamers, especially since I'm raising two future ones who are going to roxors your boxors.

At least PSN isn't as bad as LIVE though. Bundling a headset with every Xbox sold was a HUGE mistake in my opinion. Especially since a majority of the people on LIVE seem to be underage or act underage.

Agreed. I was trying out MAG with the Sharpshooter (BIG mistake btw) and was impressed how civil people were. I can't say I've had a similar experience on XBL.

lol ps home is a joke when it comes to this subject. i have played against and with girl gamers as well as I was in a clan w/ one once. Videogames aren't a place for guys to think with their p*****s play the stupid game work with your team instead of harrassing them, and i won't have to school you while you are too busy gawking at a girl whom you cant even see and will likely never personally know

To echo what Jawk and Paste said already, boys are taking much longer to grow up. Or perhaps we just notice it because of how wide-spread and accessible communication is now, I don't know.

What I do know, is this:

As I've mentioned before, I'm a youth advisor for a youth organization and do employment counseling. Most of the youth I work with have no focus, are motivated mostly by media devices, don't grasp basic concepts about self-respect or respect for others... you know... your typical (on average) teenager!

Problem is, I'm about 25, and some of these teenagers on my case load are OLDER than me. I meet on a daily basis the types that would harass girls online, and often, in public.

Anyways, as Ben said, there's a huge number of combinations of factors that contribute to this. In fact, the reason WHY people behave this way is almost unique to each and every individual. So we'd never solve that issue in a thread like this.

In the end, it works like this:

Every idiot and their mom NEEDZES a mic to spread nothing but filth and idiocy. Most (I said MOST, not all) people who are at least moderately intelligent, only want a mic for when playing with folks on their friends list. Otherwise, they usually don't use it... because you end up muting everyone...

So often, I believe it just SEEMS like guys are idiots. In a game of 12 people, 3-6 might be using mics... and they're the ones that are rude to women. I'm willing to bet there are a TON of quality guys online... You just don't hear them cause they rarely use their mics.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents on this.

I think it really is taking longer. From what I gather from my 75 year old grandfather who fought in the Korean War, most men in his generation were expected to be men by the time they were 16-18 years old. Either working or in the military.

Mine is always on, i just don't talk into it sometimes. Usually the only time i talk back is if someones trying to trash talk to me because he got demolished by me or i'm just over all better than him/her.

(Back when i was playing MW2 this girl went completely off at me swearing at me and calling me a P***y Lol)

It's funny though, because i was running around rushing people killing everyone. And after the game, this guy comes up and is trying to say i was camping in a corner when i completely out smarted him on choke points and line of sights and faster reflexes. They just follow up with mom jokes and end up rage quitting from the lobby, this part was in Black Ops.

Well that's what happened to me, thought i would tell everyone what i experienced. I don't think i ever told you guys about this before when this article came up, and sometimes it's not just the guys either it can be both ways.

I can see why this isn't going to change but really what's the big deal?
There's no point in hitting on someone who might possibly be in the same time zone as you (likely with as much subtlety as a train wreck). If you can't take losing to a girl, chances are you suck at losing in general.
I don't care for voice chat online anyway since most mic's sound pretty bad.

Before my PS3 just died, there was a girl/woman called GamerGirl666 that was playing in the Warfare mode of Killzone 3's multi-player & she was constantly kicking a$$ & taking names & at the #1 spot on every single match's leader-board.

I started watching her play as we went through the next couple rounds & she was completely amazing taking down foe after foe & completing all the tasks assigned to that match. I actually started following her & trying to back her up on the missions(not that she needed my assistance), & I started finding my own points jumping up by 2000-3000. Just watching her 6, taught me quite a few new tricks for future missions once I get my broke down PS3 repaired in July, along with my KZ3 disc that still stuck in it.

Anyway, since I haven't tried using a mic, we never spoke, but I'll always remember her as being the very best player there I've ever seen in my 66+ hours of KZ.

And some day, I hope to run into her again while playing.

You can eject the disc out somehow i don't know how my brother did it, he said he held the eject button down until the disc came out, even when it had the Yellow Light.

You could also look on YouTube to see how to do it so you don't damage the disc.

I've tried everything to get my KZ3 disc out, including trying the ideas both on YouTube & Google, with the same Fail results.

So as far as I can see it, I'll have to send my PS3 in with the disc still inside & then demand nicely that they also send my disc back safely, wrapped & scratch-free.

But unfortunately, I won't have any extra bucks to do so till my next big check in July.

I'm now without my KZ3 & my PS3 till at least then....ARRGGG!!!!

Ah the bliss of offline gaming... I don't see why any guy would get his knickers in a twist while playing against/with a girl, even if she absolutely destroys him. It's just a game. Much of what I've seen though seems to border on, or indeed fall into, sexual harassment. Seriously, anyone who bothers to do that over the internet is pathetic, and anyone who does it in reality isn't worth knowing, IMO. Guys just need to chill out and act with respect. Bring back the oldentime ideals of chivalry, rather than the baseness that seems to be so prevalent in society.

Im of the opinion that this girl has her head stuck up her a$$. there is no need to "announce" that your a girl either on XBL or PSN. I mean you dont feel the need to tell everyone your black/white/asian etc. So why bother telling them your female or male?

I do agree that some of the "boys" online are complete tools when they find out that a girl is playing. But I also understand why they try to hit on them. Flirting with girls is good. I do it all the time. In bars, online whats the difference? Least if you meet online you know you have a common interest.

And to finish off........ if all else fails there is always the mute button so you dont need to worry about it at all really. I use mute all the time. I dont speak french or spanish so i mute them. And that is irrelevant of the sex of the person!!

I think what she is saying is mostly true but with some exaggeration. Guys have calmed down a lot since a few years ago, perhaps because more and more girls are visible online. Some girls attract more attention than others with nicknames like "princess_something" or "lady_this", so in a way you're not really helping yourself. My nickname is neutral on psn and doesn't shout out that I'm a female gamer, apart from my psn avatar or if someone looked on my profile it would say my gender.

I only rarely get 'hate' mail nowadays, it usually starts if I'm online and owning others, perhaps one person over and over again, that person would send me hate mail to do with 'going back to the kitchen/doing ironing', I usually just ignore them. Funny enough, sometimes I get hatemail but then the guys realise I'm a girl and actually apologise and try to be nice to me. Obviously an insult is still an insult, especially if all you were doing is gaming and winning fairly.

I'm not really worried though to play games online and even using a mic if I have to. Hatemail happens rarely, it's nothing to fear. Just go and enjoy gaming as I'm having no problems online being a woman or not.

I think the guys that have a problem are insecure and can't handle getting killed or beat by women. They ask me "How old are you?" I always say "too old for you." Some go away and some don't. I do have to say that there are also good guys online that just want a good game and don't care about gender. Unfortunately, they seem to be overshadowed by jerks.

Thing is, I have quite a few female gamers on my PSN list. I met most of them on the playstation forums where I would just joke around with people that would complain about the Home beta back when it was private. I have found that most of them will hide their gender unless they interact with a person for a while and come to the understanding that they're mature.

I think it has a lot to do with the anonymity that online gaming provides. Most of the male gamers that act like complete f--ktards to female gamers would never act like that to a woman's face.

Society would be a dark place if it mirrored the way some online gamers behave.

The problem is most boys/guys/men just don't know how to act when they realize their is a bonafide girl in the midst. Either they try to act cool to impress the people around them or they think they have a chance with them so they try to impress them. I'm very happily married and have been around the block so I just find it comical at best and embarrassed for what I'm subjected to hear mostly. I have several girls on my friends list and almost all of them (save two) hide the fact that they are girls. one is so nasty in Demons Souls that she helped write the guide for the UK released version. (She is in the credits in the deluxe edition manual). Another is completely nasty in SOCOM and MAG WITH A KDR that most people would be envious of.

This is an unrealistic request. They are most likely playing online on their 360 and so to request decent treatment is a joke.

A 13 year old boy can't just grow up and stop being a 13 year old boy because he offended a woman.

Maybe if they started playing video games with adult males instead of teen to preteen boys they wouldn't have these issues.

The last time I played with a girl online (besides my gf.. ya... read it again.) she was prancing around and kept making boob jokes and saying stuff about girl this girl that... it was reeeeaaaally annoying. Kept bringing it up and like randomly saying stuff like "you guys are cool... most guys ask me for pics and if I'm hot." Thankfully she was decent at the game. I love that girls are playing, but guys def need to stop being dorks and we just need to get past it... maybe another 2 years... hopefully. :)

i managed to meet 4 new females online threw home. 3 of them mentioned the way the avg male deals with them threw games & they told me some strong sexual remarks that been made repeatedly. i wasnt surprised i have plenty male friends & most often use the same tactics that was used with the 3 female gamers. only difference is there tactics work in certain environments.

im guessing that most males in gaming operate the same way as most of my friends.

yuh the shouldnt have to hide there sex but what do they expect when dealing with a bunch of males primary hobby? thats like them wanting to play a game of basketball & not expecting most of the males to disrespect there gender or make sexual attempts.

i dont agree with my bredrens acting the way they do females should be treated with respect online or in person but lets be real its a difference from boys & men, i hope the females understand that.

I think a lot of it has to do with the game that is being played as well. Certain games have a more mature audience than others, that couldn't care less if a girl is playing. Most rpgs will more than likely have less kids screaming racist or sexist shit to each other than first person shooters.

I actually love playing with girls online. They bring maturity to the games...on ps3. On the xbox they are usually a little more like "omg this is sooo crazy I just blew this guys head off ::high pitch laugher::, is he on my team? HE IS!"
