Full Kratos Mortal Kombat Unveiling

There's this total bad-ass in the new Mortal Kombat. You've heard of him. He kills stuff with ungodly power.

His name is Kratos, and he will be joining the legendary MK roster next month. If you want to learn more about his involvement in the reboot, visit the PlayStation Blog: there's an interview with Mortal Kombat creative director and co-creator Ed Boon and God of War III director Stig Asmussen. Many of your most pressing questions are answered, including whether or not Kratos gets an ending (answer: yeah...kinda), and they even talk about Kratos' fatality. They had 10 ideas initially and the "final versions are in line with all the crazy deaths you've seen in God of War over the years." The brawny hero has his own stage, too, and he has all his weapons at his disposal, including the Cestus, Bow, Icarus Wings, etc. Boon says "he has more weapons in this game than any of our other characters by a factor of two." But you needn't worry; they've worked hard on the balancing, so Kratos won't be dominating every last encounter.

Anyway, this is just more incentive to throw down with some MK next month, right?

That sounds pretty awesome. Can't wait to rip off Sub-Zero's head.

Fracking awesome. They really nailed down the model. I wonder if they just used the model from God of War III as a template and just rebuilt him based on that since they are using Unreal. I was going to wait a bit to get this but I may get it right away now.

This is on Unreal? THAT explains why the visuals aren't very impressive.

Yea it is. I was bummed as well but the game performs WAY better than most of the Unreal games we have seen this generation. Probably has something to do with the fact its a 2D fighting game rather than a FPS or TPS.

exactly jawknee, 2d fighter that controls like a sega game should be pretty easy on any recent engine.

It still would have probably looked better on something else though, but hey at least it plays really well.

Imo, its the best use of the Unreal engine that I have seen on consoles. It looks loads better than ALL of the other MK's to date. The animations are great and they don't have that wax look.

I saw this last night, and was impressed over how good Kratos looks. Santa Monica is thrilled, as should we be.

If I remember correctly they were lent the model by Santa Monica.

Sadly I wasn't too impressed with the demo, but I love MK so you know I'm gonna get it at some point. Should be interesting to see what the xboxers get instead of Kratos.

As of right now, nothing. I've heard rumors about it being some exclusive gameplay content or something, but those same rumors came from the "region locked online play" source, which is entirely untrue.

Boon has gone on record stating that they're not even thinking about an Xbox exclusive character. They might down the line for DLC, but not in the same manner that we're getting Kratos.

They consider characters from some multi-platform games that way they would at least a have more wide variety to choose from.

That being said; I'd go for Ryu Hyabusa he'd fit well or even Alex Mercer despite Prototype being a flawed game you can't deny that the character had some brutal ass moves.

I'm not really into fighting games but I really see myself picking this up down the road. Not to far though.

Dang it, man, I want this version of the game, but my MK-insane good friend only has a 360. I know I'll get a lot more play time playing it if I had him to compete against. But I don't want to renew my LIVE subscription come May/June.. argh, the challenges Temjin faces in life.

or tell him to save that money and put it towards a ps3, he'd be 1/3 of the way there with just that.

oh, and Kratos looks less detailed from this vid in MK than he does in GoW3. Which is sad considering MK is a fighting game that is a lot less complex from a design and memory standpoint.

will get it for sure, sooner or later. great 2D fighters, always so thrilled about the brutal Fatality. Kratos brutality fits so well in it, wondering wut kinda of finishing Fatality he will have. :D

I have a friend who will probably get this day 1 and since fighters aren't my thing but we like to play games together, I'll probably just play against him whenever we hang out.

I really want to try Kratos though, even if he looks cartoonier in mk than in GoW.

Kratos being inside this game is good news for Kratos lovers and haters.
For the lovers they can play as him while for the haters they can deal fatality on him.

Though I'm kinda reluctant to see it first-hand that Kratos gets brutally killed.
Wouldn't it be weird to see the cold-blooded badass Kratos gets decapitated?

eh, I can think of some things that are more embarrassing for the God of War that are IN the God of War games.

...like the way he gingerly walks across catwalks and planks... haha.

The game looks very good. Like Arkham Asylum these guys were able to actually tame that outdated engine and make good graphics out of it.

Played the demo last week and I can tell you for a fact I will be buying this.

This is the true revival to Mortal Kombat, everything just feels right.

Kratos is easily the best character in this game. Amazing, can't wait to use him in the game. He truly fits MK's realms.

Been waiting patiently for MK. Loved the demo but maybe it's the fan in me. MK is the only fighting series I can say that I have each installment (on consoles that is)..

I like what they did with Kratos. Although seems that he has the best special moves for combos..
