New Resident Evil An Action Game With "Tons Of Horror"
You know you have to absorb all the Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City information you can. It's like a bodily function for horror aficionados.
Capcom talked to OPM France about this new installment in the venerated franchise, and you can find much of that info over at NeoGAF: firstly, they call the new title a "spin-off" (big surprise there), and yes, we'll have four squad members who attempt to clean up Raccoon City. Producer Masachika Kawata confirmed that they're taking RE in a "new direction," which is why the game "doesn't have a number." He added:
"As you know it's our fifteenth anniversary, which is a long time for a video game series... Some players came to the series when it made a turn towards action [in Resident Evil 4] (still with horror elements, though). This design led the series towards third-person shooter.
The idea [to work with a Western developer] came up when we were working on Lost Planet 2," he added. "We didn't have any other teams internally to work on it. Western studios are known for their ease of development, and in terms of gameplay, this genre."
He went on to say that Slant Six was "well known for their online games and their coding skills," which is obviously what they were looking for. And if you're worried that the designers will sacrifice that patented fear for standard military shooter elements, Kawata attempts to appease you:
"I want to clarify something, even though [this is] a shooter, there are still tons of horror elements."

What games do Capcom even develop in house anymore? These guys are so out of touch. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. These guys used to be a power house now they are just...well, sad.

I hated the controls for lost planet 2 and had no love for the game any other way either, so did slant six have anything to do with LP2? If so, I'm out.

But y'know what? My hope in just about everything else has died, so I might as well let that little bubble within pop as well. It's a tenacious blighter though.
Peace.

wishing RE would stop being a mindless shooter and go back to being survival horror, is like wishing sonic would go back to the good old days!
never going to happen!
crapcom why has your company fallen?
why have you gone from one of the most profitable third party developers to one of the least?
hmmm?
why?
is it just a coincidence that ever since you started selling out your series your profits plummeted?

I miss the original when it was eerie. I miss the beginning of RE2 when the zombie jumps out the window at you unexpectedly. Even the Lickers that would drop out from the vents...man..what happened to RE?!

RE just lost its identity this gen. RE4 was a nice departure but even as great as it was it derailed the series.
RE5's good, but I wouldn't say it's great.
I wish the series would start to focus more on the survival horror part, that's the genre they started............. why can't they stick to it?

I never got a chance to RE4..but I had RE5 for a short time..but I was left wondering wtf happened to the zombies..the horror..and why is it sunny outside...just disappointed me..
There was once a point where we'd say "Resident Evil is survival horror at it's finest" now...that's an after thought.

great times playing re 2. the part where the zombies arms reach through the barricade and grab you was a great jump scare. loved the licker scene as well. nemesis busting through a wall in re3 was pretty cool too.

They should either let RE die an honorable death instead of making more games that aren't even survival-horror, or go back to what made it good in the first place. I'm not a fan of RE, but for goodness sake Capcom, what are you doing?!

that was such a massive success wasn't it? capcom used to be a great publisher, but they have done a poor job on this gen of consoles. their western approach has yielded notable flops such as dark void, and bionic commando. all their great producers have left, as well.
maybe they can turn it around after that pessemistic wacko for a ceo infanue has left. i just get sick of hearing the phrase western approach. slant six just about killed off socom so that remains a concern as well.
