Madden NFL 12 Respectful To Concussion Debate

The NFL lockout shows no signs of ending, and one of the oft-debated topics regards the level of roughness and violence in the game.

Therefore, to reflect this new tension, Electronic Arts has apparently decided to institute a new feature in this year's Madden NFL 12: players who suffer a concussion will be immediately sidelined. According to a post on his Twitter page, NFLPA assistant executive director of external affairs George Atallah seemingly confirmed this new gameplay element:

"Good for EA Sports. Concussed players in NFL Madden prevented from returning to play. Culture change is important."

EA has already confirmed that this year's Madden installment is very much on track, and we continue to think the absence of a season (or a delay) will actually benefit sales. If you can't watch football, why not drop into the virtual world and give it a try? Either way, EA's decision to treat concussed players with more seriousness is probably a good move.

I haven't been following NFL for a while now.

So this thing everyone call "lockout" is halting a season?
What caused it and how?

Basically the Owners and Players are disagreeing about what to do with all the money the NFL generates. The Owners want to give a set amount of money to the Players and the Player's union doesn't think it's enough.

Were talking about 9+billion they're fighting over. It's sad when you realize even the lowest paid player makes enough to last them a lifetime in only a few seasons.

I believe when the current collective bargain agreement expired like three weeks ago and there was no replacement agreement so the owners locked out the players. Another thing that could be holding things up is that the players and the owners are fighting over how revenue from tv contracts, ticket and product sales are split up. Another factor is that the owners want a rookie slated salary and the owners want to extend the season by 2 games.

I know football is rough, but no one is forcing them to play and it's not like you can make a few million dollars a year doing much else.

Maybe instead of being greedy they could donate most of the extra money, I hear Japan could use some help.

I like this idea for Madden, promote safe play while making it even more authentic.

As for the lockout, what a joke. The lowest salary is like $750,000 I believe. I think they all need to look at median incomes around the nation and realize how lucky they are to be able to do what they do. I know football is rough but come on.

Never mind concussions, EA's NFL 10 put me in a coma from which I have yet to recover. They need to do something with this series, I'm just not sure what.

honestly their getting payed millions of dollars even for third string players...minimum is 750k for the practice players

why complain, what they ant afford a third mansion in Miami so they need more money? come on now they need to realise how little money they really should be worth

It's just the opposite. The players know what they are worth and the owners are trying to take it from them. It doesn't make sense to us, but how would you feel if your boss asked you to give them back $2 an hour. I bet you would be a little upset about that, right?

It's about time somebody reel in these players. The average joe hardly makes enough money to even buy a ticket in these times and they bicker about money. RIP NFL.

it's not just the greedy millionare players, but also the greedy BILLIONARE owners who get all their stadiums built for them by tax payers. the players are the ones getting hit out there on the field. there are no guaranteed contracts in the nfl. one bad injury and their career is over. sorry i have little sympathy for the billionare owners flying around in their private jets who have never taken a hit on the field.

not a bad idea.
i wish EA sports would do a NRL game!
theres a game for almost every sport out there, so why not NRL?
i remember the first one way back, 12 years ago i think it was that was sweet!
2nd sucked though, and the PSP version and NRL live, well, the less said about that the better!
i wish EA could bring there expertise and polish over to the NRL franchise.
NRL done with the attention to detail, and polish of madden or fifa would be sweet!

NRL is different to rugby.
rugbys allot more like NFL, except instead of throwing the ball you can only boot it down field.

Slightly off topic here, but I'm wondering if we'll have the first virtual Super Bowl this year. I don't know how they'd pick the teams for the playoffs, or how they'd pick the players to play, but it would be cool nonetheless.

Anyways, I hate this lockout. Both sides are at fault IMO. I mean cmon, I know the owners are trying to take money away from the players and extend the season (which is not what they need to do, its long enough as it is), but the players get paid so much already. The other bad thing is that it'll probably be a long, drawn out battle from the sound of things.
