Techland: Dead Island Won't Be Heavy Rain With Zombies
By now, just about everyone on the planet has seen that crazy cinematic trailer for Dead Island.
It really served to amp up expectations but developer Techland doesn't want people jumping to conclusions. Brand manager Vincent Kummer told GamerZines that obviously, the trailer isn't representative of actual gameplay. None of us are surprised, really, and he adds that by now, gamers know the difference between CGI and in-game action. But some just haven't learned, and have made interesting assumptions. Said Kummer:
"We had feedback from people who were like, 'this is going to be Heavy Rain with zombies'. We want to make sure everyone is aware of what we're doing. But then again we have this element, the emotional stuff that people are actually attached to; we have that kind of appeal in the game.
And again, you have to say CGI and in-game is never the same. I think gamers know that by now; that CGI is just to show you a couple of gameplay elements. But in the end it's not going to be the same as what the gameplay is going to be."
That trailer exploded across the Internet when it first arrived and since then, Dead Island has been on everyone's radar. It was also controversial for its depiction of dead children, and allowed everyone to wonder: "what the hell is this game, and what's it really about?" Well, it won't look like that, but it certainly served it's purpose as a promotional trailer, don't you think?

I always said, the more emotional the trailer, the more it impacts. Trailers are mostly cheese fests these days with their epic choir, fade in - fade out sequence, quick cuts, music cut to que a terrible one liner which in turn ques in climatic music for the fast cut remainder of the trailer, all ending on some sort of projectile heading towards the camera, but cuts to black and then title before impact.
Something like Journey's trailer, TLG trailer, MGS4 or Silent Hill 2's debut. They stay with you forever.
Techland did good.
From what i understand of the game anyway, it looks good.

But just by reading the psxe communities comments about it, it sounds wicked awesome. Kinda sounds like l4d ( which I effing love ) mixed with a hint of some elder scrolls. I mean if it is a fps/action rpg. So just that and the fact that its got zombies? Friggin sweet.
Ill definately be keeping an ear open about this beastly sounding game now for sure.

showed a zombies head slowly deteriorating as the character attacked it with a axe!
slowly showing the layers of skin cutting through, then the muscle and bone, was really graphic!
thats one thing i wish games would have.
you can shoot your enemies, slice and dice them but you never really see the damage your doing!
i want to see limbs hanging off by a thread, huge gashes, and intestines hanging out!
if that dont get the game banned nothing will!

Pretty cool trailer though, with the whole rewind-style, but really it says absolutely nothing about the actual game, what kind of game it'll be or how it will look for that matter so I have a hard time getting excited about the game based on that trailer...
Now if you'd tell me it's going to be like Heavy Rain with Zombies - Then I'm in!!

My money is on it being either a TPS or FPS.
