Prey 2 Won't Feature Portals From Original Title
Fans of the original title may view this as ditching an engaging game's stand-out feature.
But nevertheless, it's happening. Prey 2 is on the way, but developer Human Head has decided to ditch the one feature that allowed the first game to stand apart in the world of FPSs. If you aren't familiar, Prey boasted transportation portals, which actually generated some puzzle-solving and inverted (upside-down) gameplay. But lead designer Chris Reinhart told PSM3 that these portals will disappear in the sequel:
"We explored a lot of the ways you could use portals and gravity in combat, and I really wanted to shift away from making it too much of a puzzle game. Portals and gravity were the functions of The Sphere [the mothership in the original game]. And The Sphere’s gone."
Yeah, we know what you're thinking: "but doesn't that mean we're left with just another generic shooter?" Well, we hope not. We assume they're working on something that will separate Prey 2 from the crowd, in much the same way Prey felt refreshing. But if you want portal puzzle-solving fun, you'll just have to stick to Portal 2, which releases in a few weeks.

If anything they did not explore enough of the ways you could use portals and gravity in combat. The first game had some fantastic ideas and just need to build on them.
A shame as I was really happy when they announced the sequel, is nice to have to use your brain while playing games, oh well another generic bargain bin FPS coming to a store near you.

I am happy that they are trying to give some freshness to the sequel and not force the portals into the game. It's better not to have them if there is no sphere, otherwise it would come out as just trying to sell itself because it has portals. I hope they put a lot of effort into the game dynamics. Honestly, the most found memories I have of Prey was the awesome alien designs and great storyline.
I hope they can deliver something just as good as the first one. I will most certainly keep being excited for this. The gameplay was fantastic in the first one! I do not think the portals was what made it sell. I actually didn't know about the portals when I bought the first one and I thought it was super fantastic!
