Ninja Gaiden III: A Darker Ryu, Multiplayer Confirmed

There are rumors that the next God of War will boast a multiplayer feature, and we know Ninja Gaiden III will definitely include the option.

Project lead Yosuke Hayashi told PlayStation: The Official Magazine that NGIII will offer gamers a "complex multiplayer mode." He didn't really go into details, but he did add that fans would see a "more sinister Ryu," and the new adventure will "delve more deeply into his feelings." He went on to talk about the violence:

"We are trying to take the violent concepts even deeper and make people realize how it feels to actually kill someone and what it is to actually gut someone. It's very important to us that people realize that violence is not only about blood and gore."

Then he talked about making the game more accessible; while he understands the hardcore fans' feelings regarding the difficulty, the developers are "taking a slightly different approach" to the challenge this time around. The game won't necessarily be easier, per se, but it'll be "a more exciting game that can be enjoyed by anyone." There's even the hint of PlayStation Move support...

But how do you feel about that multiplayer feature? Is it necessary? Are you interested?

This game is sounding very promising. This is already on my pre-order list. Hopefully, the blood is not replaced with that blue crap in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

If they fix the camera i'll buy it. If they don't i'll buy it anyway but i'll just complain about the camera being too low all the time.

"We are trying to take the violent concepts even deeper and make people realize how it feels to actually kill someone and what it is to actually gut someone."

What the crap? I hope that was translated incorrectly because that just doesn't read right. How it feels to actually kill someone? Sorry, that's never why I play or would want to play a game.

I also have a hard time accepting the whole Ninja Gaiden is so hard thing. Ninja Gaiden is only hard when you're not thinking about what you're doing. If you play the game to bash buttons and muscle your way through the challenges, you'll more than likely die a lot. It's the very thing that I like so much about the game. It's not a mindless hack 'n slash. If someone takes the time to understand their actions, Ninja Gaiden on normal/warrior difficulty is totally obtainable. So don't bow down the standards of the game for an audience who only wants bloody-death thrills.

Sometimes I wish devs would make games for their target market and continue to stick to that audience. If the audience leaves and the dev is no longer profitable, end the series. And likewise, if a dev feels so compelled to change the very nature of a game's play, then they need to make a new series.

Us God of War players can't handle an action game where we can't muscle our way through most of the battles. That's why NG was hard for us. The only challenge we want is chaining together the meanest combo we can.

I'm mostly apprehensive because it's a new game director. It's Haysashi's first time doing a NEW NG. The kind of comments he's making aren't ones Itagaki would make. I just hope he doesn't change too much because I loved NG just how it was. I'm cool with better visuals, and augmenting the already existing foundation of the game's play, but please don't make it into something it's not.

I'm afraid I can't respect the fact that this game is giving in to the whiners, even if I am one of those whiners. And adding multiplayer? That's a total sellout bound to hurt the SP.

I am however interested in chopping and gutting, so consider me down for a bargain purchase :)

I HATED Sigma 2's multiplayer. I don't like the fact I had to depend on other players to help me beat certain missions because the partner's AI was so fu**ing retarded.

Im a sucker for good multiplayer. Im almost 20 hours into the SOCOM beta.
Im also a sucker for NG. I do not want multiplayer for NG. Its like Bioshock 2, it is clearly going to be tacked on for the bots to improve sales.

Judging by IGN's analysis on the NG III trailer, it looks like he'll be getting is own "devil trigger".

Have never been able to get into NG, probably due to the difficulty. I don't mind a challenge, but these games always felt like there were a lot of times where no matter what you did you would lose until the computer decided that you were allowed to pass. Which was usually after about 50 tries.

Maybe I just never gave it enough time to understand the mechanic, just seemed like a hacking away to me. I'd definitely be interested in seeing what they do with this one.

I love the NG series. I'm hoping the new director does a good job but the multiplayer isn't needed. It's a single player game and should stay that way. I would really love if this game didn't go the way of so many games today. Not everything needs multiplayer or online.

always loved the series simply because its all about patience and timing!
waiting till the best time to use a spell.
do i use my health potion now and regain half my health, or do i wait till near death and risk dying but if i time it right i get more health back?
plus to counter attack you have to press the counter at the exact moment the enemy attacks, not the button mashers almost every other game are!
this is all about timing, the combos for instance you cant just press each button to do a combo some are one after another, some are a small pause, some are just as the attack hits.
there all about tactics!

as long as they keep the essence of ninja gaiden, dont dumb it down for the masses ill love it!
a darker grittier gorier ninja gaiden is just what the doctor ordered!

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. Every game has the ability to have great single player and multiplayer. SO JUST DO IT!

Tiger woods already did =D
(I'm sorry, I had to add that joke in there)

I'm still gonna get it cause it's Ninja *Freakin* Gaiden, but as far as the multi-player thing goes... Well I really could careless about just as long as the SP mode doesn't suffer.
