"The Rock" Wants To Be Part Of A Black Ops Movie

Arguably an effective action persona on the silver screen, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson isn't easily fazed.

Just because that "DOOM" movie flopped doesn't mean he'd shy away from doing another game-based film. However, in addition to the "Spy Hunter" movie he was supposed to be in (that never got off the ground), you'd think his experiences with crossover films would dissuade him, wouldn't you? Nah. In a recent MTV interview, Johnson said that "if the right script came along," he'd give it a go:

"I think if the right one came along. I thought we had an opportunity with 'DOOM.' Didn't work out the way we wanted it to, creatively. But yeah, if the right opportunity came along and the script is good, sure."

And that one script? Well, it might just be "Call of Duty: Black Ops:"

"'[Call of Duty] Black Ops,' that'd be bad ass. Let's make it happen, let's do it. That and 'Black Swan 2.'"

We figure just about anyone in Hollywood would want to be part of a "Call of Duty" movie. The issue of casting is almost irrelevant, as the name alone should generate a massive box office haul. So The Rock in CoD...it might work. We guess. Maybe we're just not as excited because CoD has this industry by the throat right now.

dunno if a cod movie would be anygood it would depend on the story but it could be ok

Am I the only one who thinks this guy hasn't used his star power to broker a legit franchise for himself? I've always thought he could partner with the right people to get a HALO movie going. The Rock as Master Chief + Neill Blomkamp = Bi-Winning (minus the tiger blood)!!!

I didn't see Dwayne in the Fast Five commercial so yeah, i only seen Vin in it, so that's why i asked.

For some reason wrestlers never have a good time with movies. Or they're cast in average/bad movies.

The Rock's one of my favorite people in the media. Badass to to the bone!

Don't know how I feel about him in COD movie. It fits his style but I just hate COD

Dude, watch tna. A.J. Styles. Pwi's top 500 list, A.J. was number 1.

Dude has more in ring skill than any wrestler I've ever seen and he's good on the mic. Not sure if you've ever watched it, but tna has a lot of good young talent.

I luv AJ Styles mic skills are good but hes more about the ring, WWE drop the ball at let him go to TNA that easy.

Lately I'm not watching much TNA (last match I watched was that Sting vs Hardy match that made me facepalm) Hogan and Bischoff are ruining all for me, but even has a dude that is more sided to mic skills than ring skills I always enjoy an AJ match.

Due to that terrible ppv match, if you send a copy of your bill or whatever showing that you ordered the ppv, tna will email you a code for a few months of free tna on demand.

I would agree that Hogan/Bischoff have severely hurt tna, but things have improved, last couple of weeks were actually pretty good. They brought back the fallen angel, which made me happy.

Imagine if they actually produced a good or even great movie for Call of Duty. On par with Apocalypse Now of Full Metal Jacket. What if it became an Oscar winner? If any movie genre can pull it off it's War movies. They can have everything. Story, action even romance. The COD franchise would explode exponentially. The Rocks career would benefit as well.

If ActiVision plays this hand right they could multiply the billions that the franchise already pulls in and might even gain some respect in the process. That and Koticks head would explode.

A video game movie that succeeds would also garner a lot more attention to our beloved form of entertainment. Not sure if that is such a good thing though. Double Edge sword type of situation. Why can't Casual and AAA's live together?

The Tooth Fairy in CoD? Works for me. Actually since he did pretty well with Scorpion King so maybe he should be a villain against Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia 2.

Uh... ok. I get the feeling that a lot of actors just take roles for the paycheck. Can't blame them, you need to make a crust somehow. The idea of a CoD movie just sets me on edge. Sure, it could be done, but it would be so much easier to just attach any old story to it, as long as there's a military theme and lots of shooting. I really couldn't care less who was chosen to act in it, as I would do everything in my power to avoid it like the plague. But I suppose The Rock is a good a choice as anyone. I mean, he has the charisma to carry it, and he is, above all else, an action star. Go ahead, let him earn his money.

If activision could get behind this this could be quite a clever move. I've already visited forums where people dont exactly plan to buy antoher cod unless they change it up a bit. A movie with a household name about the billion dollar franchise could give call of duty the extra lift they need to keep a solid promotional mix using their same tried and true formula. if you get a movie that is actually entertaining and not like doom, that could boost cods popularity especially in hollywood. then we'll never see the end of this dynasty speaking of which, anyone want to bet cod may become the next dynasty warriors?

Give Sylvestor Stallone the go ahead to pen a movie adaptation of CoD, "The Expendables" arguably the most badass action movie filled with everything CoD is known to have. Hell you could rename the characters in "The Expendables" and it'd be very close to Black Ops

He still does a pretty good job of it, if the Expendables is any indication. Just because he's old doesn't mean he should stop doing the roles he loves (like most actors seem to want to do).

Although he does use a bit too much shakey-cam in the Expendables, probably to cover up all the stunt doubles, but that's beside the point.

This could work out very well. It could also work out like Halo Wars did, in that people didn't like seeing Halo in a different format and didn't receive it very well. I know that this is a movie, and not an RTS, but its not impossible that most CoD fans just wouldn't give a damn and would keep playing multi whilst the movie's playing in the cinema?

And besides, they've already made a couple movies with pretty much the exact same plot as most CoD games. They could use Black Ops' story, but I don't see how it could be anything other than a generic military action movie with some cool concepts.

Either way though, I'm not going to see it, and I don't think anyone else in the gaming or moviegoing populace should either. If CoD were to get established in the movie biz as well as the game industry, neither would benefit at all.

I love the Rock. When I was a kid, I loved the Nation...lol. Fast forward past my nerd WWF days and I think the Rock is a very good actor when the right role presents itself. A CoD w/ him would be nice and really...a CoD movie??? Just another war movie, but it can be good. Why do PS fans hate CoD so much. I understand it represents poor quailty, but just like GTA...it is exposing more and more to gaming which is a good thing business wise.

i don't hate cod, but i resent the constant barrage of articles about it. like the hey hollwood where's my cod movie article? just that sort of thing blurted out there seems to really bug me. it's not news, and nobody was really clamouring for a movie anyways.

A final fantasy movie would be really good as well. It will probably never happen and even if it did happen, it would get so much negative opinions for not being exactly the same as the game. But I'd like to see it happen.

You've missed out on a couple of years there =P.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - whilst raising the bar in terms of CGI, was the reason why Squaresoft had to end up merging with Enix. The problem was The Spirits Within was a movie, [without stating the obvious] meaning it required limited and a simpler, less detailed plotline than your average FF game. So this movie was released during the dominance of a series of video-games that we'd happily claim were beyond games. I see the innovation but it was risky, and ultimately unsuccessful move.

Then there's FFVII: Advent Children - another film with unmatched technical prowess, though the film is very plotholed, doesn't make much sense and is a lame excuse for a sequel. Good movie though, enjoyable second half.

Watch 'em!

Well the thing is, is that there are great actors who haven't had their big break yet and then there are guys like the rock. He's a decent actor as long as the role fits his persona and he can do that eye brow raise.

Bad thing though is that most decent actors take every movie offered just to get their face out there. While that might make you some money it also shows everyone you're willing to do anything for a buck. Have some pride man.

Could black ops be a good movie, maybe, but how many top notch writers, directors, and studios are looking to make top notch video game to movie adaptations?

Uh, The Rock in Cod wouldn't be bad, but considering a film that is based on call of duty? I don't know how this one will turn out, but hopefully it's neither black ops movie or another of somesort. Nothing modern as the modern warfare series never had a good story only a decent one.
