Sega Reveals New Sonic Game For PS3 And Xbox 360

Well, they're gonna try again.

Yesterday, we learned Sega would make an announcement pertaining to Sonic's 20th birthday. That announcement came today on Sega's Facebook page and as you can see, it's a new Sonic title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A brief teaser trailer shows Sonic racing and bouncing along a colorful environment, as you might expect, and then he meets up with a friend...who looks remarkably like him. Anyway, it'll be ready to go later this year and I think we're all hoping for a decent fast-paced adventure. This icon of gaming really deserves a better reputation than he's had over the past decade or so, and the fans probably can't withstand another atrocious effort. There are always a host of gameplay and control issues when dealing with most 3D Sonic games (with the exception of a great one on the Dreamcast), and these just have to be fixed. These are crucial elements.

Who knows? Maybe it'll end up being worthy of our time. Maybe we'll play it and go, "hey, Sonic's back!" We can hope. We're allowed.

Sonic 2 was my first game for sega genesis and why i really started playing video games. Before that it was just mario, kirby, contra, and other classic games from the nes. I really hope sonic gets his good name back.

Sonic came back with Sonic 4 and Sonic Colours.

I had hoped Sonic 4 ep. 2 would be announced formally, but that is inevitable so this is just a bonus if they get it right.

I haven't been able to withstand Sega's atrocious efforts with Sonic over what seems like the last 10 years or more.
Sega just isn't what they were to me so many years ago, and it's sad seeing just how downhill a company can go in what seems like so little time.

I think perhaps Sonic is such a simple concept for a game, that attempting to make it more complex destroys the simplicity that is core to it's success.

Hopefully this new game will return to the core simplicity.

Hopefully it turns out good. Most of my concerns with Sega is more on quality. I think they could do more complicated Sonics if they just did them well, basically, owning up to high quality. Nintendo has had no problem expanding Mario and his many game genres while keeping the quality strong. Sega is so hit and miss these days there's no way I could risk a purchase (most of their games) without first examining the reviews.
And I do like the simple 2D Sonics a lot for their simplicity.

When i was a kid (eary 90's)sonic was the man or hedgehog in this case, but i've out grow cutesie characters and as such will hold that memory close to my equivalent of a heart, same reason i did'nt watch the lastest indy movie but sadly cant say the same thing for clash of the titans, anyway hope this turns out really well for all you hardcore sonic fans :)

Well he's hardly bada$$ like kratos or solid snake.
Originally aimed at kids like 85% of videogames back in the 4th generation.

I could see how you see it that way but I disagree.

That's like saying LBP is aimed at kids which is obviously not true.

Colorful and artistic doesn't equal for kids. Not for me anyway.

Young or adult, we all played the Mario games, the Sonic games, and the Crash Bandicoot games.

Well I can't wait to see what they pull off.

Hoping for lots of levels that are challenging but fun at the same time. Just like Sonic 2 and 3.

It would be nice to see him return to his former glory, but I'm still waiting on the review. All the hoping in the world doesn't guarantee a great game and I won't ante up until I know for sure.

At first I thought maybe it's like Sonic Rivals on the psp but that looks like Sonic from the past. Maybe a new Sonic collection of games, I hope this time they include Sonic CD.

I'm hoping they make a story that requires the new sonic to go back in time and work with the old one to change the future. It would be awsome! Classic bosses and having the old Sonic battle the new ones that have traveled back in time as well. A new Mecha Sonic. \m/

and having the Sonic from the future break out in tears when he travels back in time and see's Tails alive again....which in the future he(Tails) dies in a heroic attempt to distract Robotnic, giving the Sonic the chance to access the time machine. @.@

I tried the Demo, it was cool but other games were higher on my list.

I just hope they capture the magic of the Genesis games. The music from the first Sonic, to me, ranks up there with FF7.

As long as they have Tails, Knuckles, and maybe Shadow, I would be cool with that as long as the core gameplay is intact.

I really enjoyed the original Sonic games a lot. I also really enjoyed both Sonic Adventure games too. If they were to make something like Sonic Adventure 3 then I would be happy. Sonic 4 is great for the older Sonic while Adventure is great for the 3D Sonic. Also, I hope they include the entire Chao system again because I spent so much of my time in the Adventure series just raising Chao. Going through every level picking up special animals to feed to my Chao so that it would look cooler and be able to win races. Those were some of the best times of my childhood!

Sonic made an excellent return to the 3D world in "Sonic Colors". Gameplay and controls were real sweet. This follow up will impress a lot of you who never played Sonic Colors on the Wii.
