"Okami Could Still Get A PS3 Sequel"

Okami was just one of those games. Those who played it will likely never forget it, and they've been pining for a sequel, too.

Up until now, we really haven't heard much about the possibility of a follow-up, but according to the rumor section in the latest Official PlayStation Magazine UK, the dreams of the artistic-minded may not go unheeded. There's one particular "whisper" that has fans of the award-winning last-gen title stoked:

"Despite selling like yellow-snow ice cream, OPM favourite Okami could still get a PS3 sequel."

Okay, that isn't much to go on but at least it's something. Sadly, it's true that many of the more unique titles don't get as much attention, and Okami really didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel. At the same time, there's no denying the cult following the game has, and those fans would be more than ready to accept a new effort.

One of those games I've been longing to play. This is welcome news, hope they make it and it sells well.

Meh, I hear great things about the first game but with Capcom's track record this generation I can't help but doubt it would any good.

It came out on PS2 in 2005, then Wii 2007. It was a beautiful and long masterpiece of a game where you played a wolf Goddess named Ameterasu and you were brought to life to vanquish a 7 headed dragon terrorising the world.

Read my comment below and you'll see why I loved this game so much. An HD remake would really make the waterbrush art style graphics really pop!!

Always thought of buying this when i had my PS2, it'd be great to have a sequel, although I think it'd also be great for them to have a PS2 HD remake aswell for PSN or something.

Please, oh PLEASE let this be true!!!!

Okami on PS2 was one of my most memorable gaming experiences next to San Andreas and Shadow of the Colossus.

If it had Move support, an Okami sequel would rise to the top of my wishlist.

And for anyone who hasn't played Okami or even heard of it, I highly recommend you buy it today. Trust me, a hire isn't long enough. The story took nearly 40 hours to complete, but it never felt long-winded.

I loved Okami so much I even bought the game again on Wii. While the widescreen presentation and Wii-remote paintbrush mechanic is wonderful, it makes it so much harder to draw a good circle than using an analog stick.

The timeless Japanese painted presentation, the Japanese folklore tale of a wolf Goddess, the huge world to explore, the creative and colourful characters AND enemies!!! Okami was nothing short of brilliant and deserves the attention of anyone not glued to FPS'.

Easily in my top 5 favorite games of all time. No other game is more deserving of a sequel. Period.

I absolutely agree. Okami would make a top 5 for me as well. One of those games that rarely comes along.

Another Okami would be great, but I also want another Viewtiful Joe like the one on the PS2 featured Dante as a playable character.

New Breath of Fire, Capcom. Please!

Not taking anything away from Okami, great great game. Would definitely welcome a sequel, and if it requires move it will finally.make me go out and buy it (move).

Please make it so for the PS3 in HD.

If you like artistic games, Okami is seriously one of the top "MUST HAVE" games.
And the Japanese soundtrack is awesome too

I played Okami on the PS2 and it was one of the most memorable experiences I had on it ever. I hope that a sequel would arrive on the PS3. I mean, we now have the Move controller for all those brush strokes!!

I have never played okami, but after reading this article and some of the comments I'm going to start hoping for an HD remake because it sounds like something I shouldn't miss.

Honestly, while an HD remake would be nice, the PS2 version is still without doubt a timeless classic.

The artwork graphics might not be in HD, but they are still beautiful to behold nonetheless.

Don't wait for an HD remake. I haven't heard anything about one anyway, not even a rumour. Do yourself a favour and pick it up for 10 bucks or something at a Gamestop or wherever you can find one.

If you've got a spare 40 hours, there is no finer way to spend it than with this gem.

Just checked amazon and it looks like I can get it new for $18, which I'd much rather do than give money to gamestop.

Besides if I had to order it from gamestop online it wouldn't come with a case or manual and it'd probably be scratched.

You haven't all forgotten about Okamiden already, have you? It just came out last month and reading this article and all the comments to see no mention of it ANYWHERE? I know this is PSXE and Okamiden is for the Nintendo DS and so many of you may not have been able to play it, but what I'm trying to get at is that an Okami sequel HAS happened. Plus, get this: the original came out on PS2 to stellar reviews and awards and was then re-released only two years later for Wii despite relatively poor sales of the original. Most games don't get even that with the kind of sales Okami saw. But if that weren't enough it still did get a sequel on Nintendo DS. (I'm not sure why NO ONE here has mentioned Okamiden before me but if it's because you've never heard of it you should be ashamed) Anyway, all that makes me confident that another even bigger and better follow up is being at least considered. Whether it will be for PS3 or Wii or the rumored Wii 2/HD, I don't think anyone is in a position to call that. But I'm confident we will see an all-new third Okami game before too long.

Great job, Lance. Okamiden is great!!!! As far as the people here not knowing about it, well...I don't know. But it seems they are more excited to play shooters like Killzone and Uncharted on the NGP than the more art and thoughtful games on DS. For people who complain about there being TOO many shooters on home consoles(PS3/360), seems weird that they would be so eager to play them on the go, but oh well....

Oh, I knew about it!!

Unfortunately, I do not own a DS. I had a PSP but recently traded it in anticipation for an NGP.

If I did have a DS, I would certainly place Okamiden on my wishlist. Sadly, average reviews of the game wouldn't make it a D1P for me, but I would still love to get it in any coming sales!!

One of the most stunning games ever made.

It was essentially an artsy Zelda, but i ain't complaining about that!

It definitely needs a ps3 follow up.

Yes, please. Picked up Okami in late 2006 without hearing anything about it and it turned out to be one of my favorite ps2 games (on par with Ico, SOTC, Indigo Prophecy and Beyond Good and Evil). If they end up making a sequel, I'll grab it without hesitation.

Please, please, PLEEEEASE!!! Okami is amazing. Truly an amazing game. I've played it on the PS2 and Wii. I'd love to see a sequel (console sequel that is).

Okami's 5th birthday is coming up next Wednesday (April 20th). Maybe Capcom will surprise us with a Okami HD remake for the PS3 and 360 with Playstation Move support to boost hype for the announcement of Okami's sequel (again, console sequel) at E3!!

It could happen. Capcom's remaking Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4 for the PS3. Why not Okami?!

I hope this is true. I loved Okami, but I didn't get Okamiden because it was for the DS, a handheld which I don't and will probably never own.
