Who Wants A Multiplayer Option In Dragon Age III?
Dragon Age II was missing a few key elements that kept it from elite status in our mind...but multiplayer wasn't one of those elements.
I mean, who really cares? Still, according to the rumor mill in the latest edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine, BioWare is currently working on Dragon Age III, "complete with an all-new multiplayer mode." According to the "Inside Whispers" part of the publication, the hint reads- "More elf sexy time! Dragon Age 3 is on the way, with an added multiplayer component." Most of the time, we just say, "hey, isn't that neat" and move on our way. But recently, with the other rumor that says Sony Santa Monica might include a multiplayer feature in the next God of War, we're starting to get a little irritated. Factor in the latest downloadable titles that claim to have single-player campaigns (that you either can't finish alone or take less than an hour to complete), and that irritation grows. RPGs, with the exception of MMORPGs, are single-player experiences.
Am I the only one who sees it that way? Or are there many role-playing fans out there who would welcome a multiplayer addition to DAIII? Personally, I just want my freakin' explorable world map and individual armor pieces for my companions.

Remember the old baldurs gate 1 & 2? And morrowind
We could replace some of the npcs with your buddy over tcp/ip :D :D :D
We still had the great singleplayer campaing with same choices and effect but the second player was more of a spectator. Still I would agree to a feature where you can take your main character to help out a buddy or just plain start a new game with him as we like. But in no way do I want it to affect the single player campaing. Just like in the old baldurs gate days :D no?

I suppose you'd lose out on a lot of the carefully constructed inter-relationship work BUT as long as it didn't mean they just wouldn't bother to create the inter-relationship work, then I suppose I'd be ok with it. Barely.

If they added an element like WKC in the way of multiplayer, like you go to a "lobby" and do quests with other peoples' avatars but it doesn't hold any relation to the single player story, I might be able to get behind that. Though honestly, I probably wouldn't use it too much.

The story would remain the same the cutscenes aswell. Go check out Baldurs gate shadows of amn and throne of baal or icewindale from bioware they are good exemples of nice multiplayer with a grand singleplayer campaing.
Like your buddy can come in your game and either bring his character or take control of one of your npc if you want it. No one is forcing you and even if they dont join you it wont change a thing but to me it was fun to have me and my buddy playing baldurs gate over tcp/ip having each created a new character and rampaging on the huge single player campaing. Only player one had the authority to talk in dialogues and player two was support. We each took command of two characters and strategized lol

The thing is, multiplayer aficionados don't even care about RPGs for the most part. So won't this just detract from the single player?

DA II arrives and automatically I see issues, from graphics choices, to reducing the rpgness of it, to making it take place almost completely in one town. I will buy it and like most people will probably think it's ok, but it's no Origins, that is for sure.
Now this, this?!? I can't ever remember playing dragon age and thinking, this would make for some good MP action. It wouldn't fit right, it will just be an wrong. I'm sorry, but I play an rpg so that I can be immersed in a story, a story in a world unlike mine. How can I do this with MP? Uuggh.
Bioware I have loved you, but me thinks you are headed the direction of SE with this kind of toilet talk.

However please note that both I and the mentioned site could be wrong here. Don't kill me if I am... It sounds plausible though, cause really, a multiplayer Dragon Age or Mass Effect "capture the flag" makes no sense at all.

@eld: ... Or maybe that's exactly why... If they already have spent a fortune creating the kotor mmo engine, why not wrap a fantasy rpg around it too?
Although, that would mean no console version. And that'd suck.

Multiplayer is the last thing I want from DAIII, as it does not fit at all in the context of the world, the characters, and the lore that Bioware has built.
If they want multiplayer in any of their games, they should incorporate it in a new IP because not only would it be a sensible and respectable design choice (fans of DA and ME for example won't get further shunned and ignored), Bioware's the kind of developer that likes to make fresh IPs; DA and ME are their latest IPs that have proven to be successful for them, despite the negative backlash (the re-use of environments in DAII and the more shooter-focused aspect of the gameplay in ME2).
I apologize if I come off mad, as I absolutely loved DA:O, II and MEs 1 and 2. I just see notable flaws that in my opinion don't detract hugely from the quality of the products; however, multiplayer will.
Sacrificing fan loyalty for a simply wider audience has never worked for RPG developers (case in point, Square Enix), so please Bioware don't implement multiplayer.

I'm optimistic about this "rumor", cause this may mean that BioWare are so satisfied with how the kotor-mmo is shaping up to be that they want to use that engine also on other titles!
Pure speculation of course, but still... One can always hope. :)

we need games singularly SP to focus on the storyline.
some game suit MP, some dont.
this is one of those that dont suit MP!
its sad to see the story driven adventure game is on the endangered species list, i mean ps1 and ps2 days were flooded with them!
we use to have heaps of zelda competitors, but now, well, im forced to look for my wii for adventure games!
god help us!!!!!!!!!

But, I would like to see some type of city (it doesn't have to be huge) that offers a trading post location for the players.
