Sony's Reminder: Enjoy Our Exclusives This Year
We've already had Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, and MLB 11: The Show, all of which are elite titles.
But as Sony reminded as at the PlayStation Blog, that's just a small taste of what's to come exclusively to the PlayStation brand in 2011. SOCOM 4 launches next week, and Sony will invite their media partners to get a behind-the-scenes look at the likes of inFamous 2, Twisted Metal, Resistance 3, and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. And of course, we can't forget about Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and more games for the advancing PlayStation Move. Along with stereoscopic 3D and more great additions to the PlayStation Network - we want thatgamecompany's Journey - we have to admit: it's a darn good time to own a PS3. The PSP also has quite the large library these days and if you're a role-playing buff, you can't ignore the availability of traditional RPGs on the portable unit.
With all these exclusives, it's gonna be tough on the wallet. But they're worth it, aren't they?

At least I'm happy with the offerings, I've never seen anything quite like it. PS2 had lots of great exclusives but lots were 3rd party. This gen it's like the 1st party devs have kicked it up ten notches in overall quality.
World Exclusive Prediction: A Sony-Quantic Dream contract inked by the end of 2012.

BTW, I'm going to take a chance & ship my PS3 over to Gophermods in Minnesota tomorrow to repair my blinking red light of death. They only charge $69.99 for it, using only Artic-5 thermal paste and using the same re-flow machines that NASA uses.
And they have a 24-48 hour turn-around, they give you back your very own console, they don't delete anything off your hard-drive, and they'll also return any game that's stuck in it too.
So wish me luck that I'll be back to playing KZ3 next week!!!!!!
But this time during any future marathon gaming sessions, I WILL shut my machine down for a 1/2 hour after every 2 hours of game playtime just so my Princess doesn't get heat-stroke any time soon again. And come July, I should be getting a slim & putting a 750HD in it, just so I'll have a backup for my baby & also to add it in my collection

I forgot to add that to my post, but I will definitely post how it went with Gophermods, especially seeing how they're somewhere in your neck of the woods of MN, Minneapolis to be exact.
BTW, they repair to ALL consoles, plus numerous phones too.
Clamedeus,
Yeah, I live in New Jersey so I'm hating having to send my PS3 all the way to Minnesota, but I guess sending it to Sony would've been far too.
Anyway, you get your own console right back, and this place doesn't mess with anything on your hard drive, so you get to keep all your saved stuff too
gunblademaster,
Well the yellow light & the red blinking light are 2 completely different failures. Mine(red blinking light) was caused by all my marathon gaming sessions that caused my thermal heat paste to deteriorate more rapidly, which caused my fan to start running on high off & on(mostly on).
BTW, I'm not sure what the exact failure is with the yellow light but it's a much more serious failure cause they only charge $69.99 to fix my blinking red light, but they chargedouble, at $139.99 for yellow light failures.
I'm thinking "hardware failure"(motherboard, etc), but maybe Highlander might know what the associated yellow failures are.
Gabriel013, Sorry to hear you're still having problems after the repair.
Where did you send your console out to be fixed?????
Anyway, if anyone wants to check out Gophermods in the meantime, here's their website link....

I hear the wise move is to allow the fans to cool the machine whilst it idles, rather than shut it off at full temperature. Look into it, Biker. We don't want you suffering anymore.

I believe you are right about that, & I will start doing it that way.
BTW, nice catch on that 411.
Bugzbunny109,
I've been leery of 3rd party's too, but they seem to have a lot of good reviews & a 95% rating, so I decided to give them a shot, especially since I don't want to keep losing all my %^&%^$ locked game saves(already lost about 8 damned game saves so far).
Anyway, I sent my PS3 to them today, by first class snail mail($21.85 with tracking # & $500 insurance) & the post office says it should reach them by next Tuesday(snail mail is quite fitting name for them, & I should have just gone with Gophermods own FedEx shipping label.
The frigging post office could have sent it by 1-day Priority Mail, but they are F*cking crazy if they think I'm going to pay them $70.00 just for that.
Anyway, I'll be tracking my baby all the way there, plus Gophermods says they'll email me when they receive it, again during the repairs, again after it's done, & again(with a tracking number) once they ship it back out to me by FedEx.
And I will be posting how my experience goes.

Seriously, ps3 dominates all year. LBP2 and KZ3, now we'll get Infamous 2, White Knight Chronicles 2, and SOCOM 4. Then we might even get Starhawk later on, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, Journey, R&C All 4 One, Twisted Metal, and maybe The Last Guardian?
Who needs multiplats? lol
Just look at the freaking diversity in that list...

Anyway, I'm not trying to break you out of your fanboy-induced stupor, but there is no way that every single game on your list is superior than every game on mine. I'd get a lot more diversity out of my list even if I didn't buy all the game on yours, which I'm definitely going to do.

Did you not read my last sentence that mentioned that the PS3 is where the games are at? That was my point.
In answer to your question, it all comes down to the players tastes in genres. If what the PS3 exclusives have is your cup of tea, the obvious answer is yes.
The PS3 has nearly every genre covered exclusive wise. That's not disputable.

Other than that I'm curious about Twisted Metal, inFamous2 is an obvious buy, I'll most likely skip Uncharted 3, disappointed about no coop in resistance 3 so that's a skip too.
Still, a good year indeed. But then again, if Mass Effect 3 was the only game this year I'd still insist it was a good year. :D

Gaming, for me, is all about being in control, making the decisions, shaping the experience, choosing the outcome.
If a game becomes too linear and the gameplay strategics too forced onto you I simply lose all interest, regardless of the amount of eye candy or sexy cutscenes. It's still just an annoying "puzzle game" in my eyes.
I got *immensely* disappointed with Uncharted 2, obviously because of the gigantic hype that surrounded it. If this game were not as hyped as it was prior to the release I'm sure I'd enjoy it a lot more, but as it were I was expecting "the next big thing" and saw none of that.
But hey - please don't read my words here as disrespect or dissing you guys in any way for loving Uncharted & co. I'm the one who's losing out on great experiences here. This is just how I tick.

How are you feeling about R&C:A41, with it's focus on 4-player co-op? It certainly seems to be something radically different, as there appears to be more pure platforming, as opposed to the action included in the previous games.
And R3 does have campaign co-op, or are you talking about what was implemented in R2? Clearly though, you must love RPGs, and be very interested in SOCOM and Deus EX? Or am I off the mark?
Peace.

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 @ 4:31:42 AM
Regarding R&C, I believe there was something about the 4 play coop that I didn't like, although I cant remember what. It's not local only, is it?
I never paid any attention to the story in R&C, it's the lovely sensation of whacking baddies and collect showers of nuts'n'bolts that made r&c such a blast. But after the last one I got the "been there done that" feeling.
And you hit a lot of nails in your post: The video of Deux Ex gameplay made it a day1 for me, an *obvious* buy. Absolutely loved what I saw. But that's not an exclusive is it? I try to stay on topic, and the multiplats/exclusives categorization is serious business in this hood ;)

And A41 is both local co-op and online drop-in/drop-out, so there's really nothing not to like. Perhaps though it's the camera set-up that you don't like as apparently all of the characters must remain on-screen at all times, which would result in massive limitations. It also seems to have a heavier focus on platforming than earlier titles, particularly in requiring teamwork, which is different.
Deus Ex isn't an exclusive, but no exclusive examples sprung to mind, besides SOCOM, so I went there.
Peace.
P.S. The second time you play Uncharted you'll love it because it is such an awesome game.

insomniac are normally quite open with there games, there constantly announcing new things, constantly showing it off.
but with this they have been quite quiet and hush hush about it.
a crack in time is the 2nd best game in the series, so it has one hell of a name to live upto!
i just hope it does not disappoint, and turn out, like, well, resistance 3!
please insomniac i have already seen my most favorite new IP go down the sh*tter, so please dont make me watch my most favorite IP of all time go down the sh*tter!

But it is strange that we've seen almost nothing of A41, given that it is supposedly releasing before R3, because apparently IGN is having an information 'blowout' on R3 on Wednesday. They also have an A41 Preview listed, so perhaps we'll see more on it then.
*Fingers crossed my Anon friend*

nothing i have seen so far has impressed me, especially for a insomniac game, im normally jumping in my seat saying i need to play this NOW!
maybe its the disappointment of 2 that has dulled my excitement for this, but so far everythings just been meh.
as for all 4 one, i hope so, just seems weird insomniac have been so hush hush on it.
O, and i know how the f*ck R3 is going to turn out, because there is such a thing as trailers, and previews you know?

i have finished the original i dunno, probably 30 times!
and i could start it up, and finish it again tomorrow happily!
every time someone comes over thats always the game i boot up, because its always the one i want to play, and more importantly its always the one they want to play!
2 though i finished it once, once again on hard, and once again on superhuman just so i could get my plat.
i was bored of it the first time i finished, finishing it the second time was like work, finishing it the third time was like torture!
the original i can play for the rest of my life and not get bored of it.
2 though, i could not finish it once without getting bored with it!
hopefully 3 goes back to the style of the original, but i honestly cant see myself enjoying it anywhere near as much as the original!
resistance fall of man, and resistance retribution are pure gold!
2 though, meh.
worth a play through to experience the amazing titans, and really cool weapons.
after that, its a real been there done that affair.

Someone mentioned earlier, but the no mention of The Last Guardian AND the ICO collection is a little bit disappointing. Not surprising, but disappointing. I can do without TLG this year (I won't be short on buying other games) but I was hoping for the ICO collection to be released this spring! Maybe we'll get a release date at E3?

And every one of them was bought USED, right out of the bargain bins just so MS won't get any more of my money.
I did have to pay full price for my COD MW2 250GB 360 bundle(game, mic, & 2 different colored controllers).
But I was able to take immense delight in snatching some probable foul-mouthed pre-puberty twitcher's pre-order away from them.

I agree with most of the posters above that you COULD live off of exclusive games only. I do believe that the quality and diversity of the PS3 library lends credence to this idea.
However...2011 has 5 multiplats that I MUST play.
1. Mass Effect 3
2. FIFA 12
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
4. Batman: Arkham City
5. L.A. Noire

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
