inFamous 2 Beta Kicks Off

The beta set to test the new User Generated Content feature in inFamous 2 has begun. You in?

Just so you're aware, Sucker Punch has started its beta test; the invitations are rolling out now and the test period runs from April 12 through May 6. Right now, this seems to be restricted to those who registered through the game's official website, but it may become available to PlayStation Plus members some time soon. As for the rest of you, you'll just have to wait until June 7, which the full game hits store shelves. The "very best missions" from the beta will be included in the final game, although we're not entirely sure how Sucker Punch denotes the "very best." The exact definition remains up in the air. But if you think you've got enough of an active imagination to create awesome missions, and you're involved with the beta, feel free to tell us all about it.

We'll be sure to tell you our impressions when we're allowed to do so, and in 2011, there are few games we want more.

Damn, I would have loved to get into this beta.

But as this afternoon, my phat princess has hitched herself a ride with some USPS mother-trucker on a crucial journey to Minnesota to see a specialist for a bad case of Blinking Red Eye.

Yeah, I've done all I can to get a beta invite, but so far no go. I read though that early group would get invited today and their would be another round of invites in a couple of weeks.

I'll be crossing my fingers the whole time begging to be let in. I just want my hands on some infamous 2.

I'm one of the biggest InFAMOUS fans ever, got the platinum on the first one and 100%'d the game on 3 different playthroughs (good, evil, neutral). If anyone has a spare code or a code they don't, I'd greatly appreciate it. I really wanna play this game.

It's funny how beta versions are so attractive to most gamers. What is a beta version? It's an unfinished piece of software containing major bugs, poorly tuned performance, unstable and with partially unimplemented/disabled features.

... Yet we all scream out in pain and frustration if we spot *one* frame of screen tearing or popup once it's released :)

I don't complain about those issues during beta, that's what beta is for, finding bugs. I've always found it annoying when people act like a beta is a demo or a representation of the actual game. It's just dumb to think a beta will be glitch free.

Because a game is supposed to be technically sound when its released and a beta is not. Plus, none of us have played an inFamous 2 demo at all, and we just want to get our hands on it, even if it is an unfinished version of it. Also, I'm pretty sure a lot of people would love to give feedback to help SP improve the final product as well.

Yeah I know, it was meant more as a funny remark, although I'm not so eager to try betas nowadays that's not always been the case.
I've played several betas over the years, I guess the turning point was after the beta testing of the Matrix MMO. We had spent months helping out, fighting bugs, and above all: Building our characters. The harsh reality didn't strike me until a few days before launch: Character wipe. Everything we'd done, all we'd gathered and spend litterary weeks on, just wosh out the window.

It's obvious why, and it's alays done with mmo's, but oh man. That's when I swore to myself, "never a beta again!". :D

why is the ps3 even released outside the US?

I don't really understand why this would be us exclusive. Cant they just give codes to other people around the world too? Plus the playstation is behind both xbox and wii in sales in the us so it makes no sense to give there weakest market the exclusive content.

They wouldn't care about any of your criticisms, no matter how valid they are or not, they would just write you off as a hypocritical psychopath.

Can't wait for this. I loved creating stuff in LBP2, though I'm sure the mission editor isnt as complex, I have learnt alot about level design and how to keep the players attention from wandering from LBP2. CAN'T WAIT!!!

we EU peeps are getting the beta but its gonna be hand picked from plus members. Saying that it seems no one in the PAL regions has got and email yet though just our US cousins. which kinda sucks as we were told emails would go out yesterday.

I have tried to enquire whats going on with it in PAL territorys but no response yet. If i find out any further info i'll post it here.

still no word for PAL ps3 owners getting in on the beta action. i have message sucker punch, ps plus team, psn store team via twitter and email and no response from anyone. so it's not looking good at this stage.

Codes are being sent out now for select members of PS plus members in PAL regions. So check you inboxs. If you dont get one today i believe comunity man on twitter Musterbuster has said there will be more codes being made available next week.
