Choose "Classic" or "Modern" Style In Sonic Generations
What was initially revealed on Sega's Facebook page has now been officially announced.
Today, Sega America, Inc. and Sega Europe Ltd. have released details for Sonic Generations, the new title in development for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
In celebration of the blue streak's 20th anniversary, this will be the "definitive gaming experience for Sonic fans old and new." Sonic the Hedgehog will be playable as both the classic 1991 character and the modern day hero. What this means is that Generations is placed across three different eras over the span of those 20 years: recognizable levels are rebuilt in HD and are "playable in both classic side-scrolling 2D, as well as modern 3D style."
Sonic will even have trademark abilities from the different eras; that includes the Spin Dash and Spin Attack from the old days and the Homing Attack and Sonic Boost from more recent times. Said David Corless, Sonic Global Brand Director:
"Sonic Generations will certainly be a fitting celebration for Sonic’s 20th Anniversary. By having the classic 1991 Sonic that many fans know and love team up with his modern day incarnation, we are bringing back the nostalgia of the early days of Sonic and combining it with the innovation and stunning HD technology of the modern gaming era. Sonic Generations will bring to life the last twenty years of Sonic’s universe in a truly unique and imaginative way."
Well, what do you think? Does Sega have a winner this time? ...maybe I'll just play the entire game in the classic format. Sonic Generations should be ready to go for the holiday season this year.
